The Radeon R9 290X, the AMD's new flagship GPU, offers the weapon of choice for gamers who demand the best. It's based on the new 28nm Hawaii GPU architecture and introduces the support for DirectX 11.2, capable of rendering reality-redefining imagery in the hottest titles. With a massive number of stream processors and a gigantic 4GB GDDR5 memory, this GPU delivers the performance you need for smooth gameplay at extreme settings. The new CrossFire technology allows you to build a multiple graphics card configuration without the use of interconnect bridges. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you will leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies are included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

This model is BIOS overclocked for smoother gameplay, and comes equipped with new WINDFORCE 3X 450W cooling system for reliable cooling even under extreme loading.

  • newegg NEW WINDFORCE 3X 2 SLOT 450W cooling system Keeping the same 450W cooling capacity using only two slots, the New WINDFORCE 3X 450W cooling system is equipped with two 8mm and four 6mm cooper heat pipes, inclined fans, and GIGABYTE “Triangle Cool” technology. This not only provides an effective heat dissipation capacity, but also enables higher performance due to a lower temperature.
  • newegg Smart Fan Control With built-in a hardware switch, you can easily change the fan profile to silent mode or performance mode. In Silent Mode, the fan always runs at low speeds to provide a quiet working environment unless the GPU reaches a certain high temperature. In Performance Mode, the fan speed will be dynamically adjusted based on the GPU temperature variation; this can keep the GPU temperature lower to get a better performance.
  • newegg Built for Crossfire The card features the next generation CrossFire support for up to four graphics cards with no interconnect bridge required.
  • newegg Mantle There’s optimization, and then there’s Mantle. Games enabled with Mantle speak the language of GCN architecture to unlock revolutionary performance and image quality. (Application support is required.)
  • newegg AMD TrueAudio Technology AMD TrueAudio technology brings the world’s first programmable audio pipeline marking a new frontier in realism for PC gamers. AMD TrueAudio technology empowers game developers with a programmable audio pipeline on the GPU, inviting them to put their unique artistic fingerprint on in-game audio in the same way that the programmable graphics pipeline brought unfettered artistic vision to PC graphics. Enabled games can feature more realistic environmental dynamics, a richer tapestry of sound effects, breathtaking directional audio, and more. AMD TrueAudio technology enhances audio realism by simulating the human brain’s perception of real-world sound, working in concert with the user’s existing audio hardware to recreate a lifelike experience.
  • newegg See More, Win More! The card is capable to turn your computer into a super gaming machine. Enjoy the latest 3D games with stunning graphics and effects that your enemies cannot match! Get an immersive experience with AMD Eyefinity! Expand your game across up to four displays, while your opponents have one monitor. 1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this one...

Pros: This card cools the VRMs very well and does a decent job on the GPU.

Cons: Died within 3 days using stock clocks. It had an easy life playing WoW and on day 3 randomly froze the whole computer after gaming for about 30min. After a restart I no longer had picture. Tried everything to get it working again, other pcie slots, re-seating over and over, different power connectors...... Nothing..... Put my second 290X "XFX DD" in the main slot and it starts just fine. Take XFX out and put Gigabyte in.... Nothing... It was dead, the fans still spun but no picture. I've never experienced killing a graphics card before so this is a first.

Other Thoughts: This seems to be common. I purchased my card at the big A and even over there you can find many poor reviews. As a side note, I took the cooler off while trying to figure out what was wrong expecting to find something burnt, I found two of the capacitors where bent almost all the way over. I pushed them back annnnnnnd they almost fell off. I don't know if the cooler did this or if it was even part of the issue. Just something I noticed. It had stretched the cap connector pretty good & didn't look natural at all. Didn't care if I messed it up at that point since I had already given up.

Good luck.

2 out of 5 eggsbummed out

Pros: it worked for three or four hours. and while it worked it done very well. played my games on max settings with no problems.

Cons: after a short time my screen went to sleep at first i thought it was due to me not moving my mouse or anything for a couple minutes. but then when i tried to wake my screen it said not receiving any signal from computer. tried a different cable with no luck. then tried a different monitor, after that i put it in another high end computer still would not work. so i put in my old gpu and everything worked just fine. also not sure what was supposed to be with the card but only came with two sli bridges, one threeway and one twoway. a disc, and and a graphics card quick guide and nothing else.

Other Thoughts: if they can send me one that works i will be very very happy with the card. But when it dies on me then there is a problem. thankfully my old card still works. i ordered this card to go with a very nice amd build including new gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud5 mb, amd 9590fx cpu, and thermaltake level 10 gt case.

1 out of 5 eggsHmm, 2 bad ones so far out of 3

Pros: My card that works runs well. It seems it can handle anything. This is a 290x with great fans.

Cons: You can see the other quality issues people are having with these and mine was no different. I have sent 1 back to newegg, and am hopefully going to get to send the second back.

The first card would black screen randomly, it would last a whole 10 seconds on furmark, and keep in mind I had a working card to compare it to.

The second card also does not function, but it will simply not boot into windows while the driver is installed. (again, my other card works fine here in same slot / same everything) And it turns out the card is actually bent! It is missing a screw and the fan shroud is bent as well.

After some investigation it appears it was dropped while in the box, you can see the imprints of the card on the inner cardboard of the box. Based on the exterior retail (shiny) box looking great, I would guess this was done at the factory.

If you have a problem with your card, examine your cardboard box and card closely.

Other Thoughts: I just want two that work, hopefully newegg approves the return. I started to think it was my system damaging them but it appears that is not the case... I mean really, who gets TWO bad cards?!?!? Never happened in my life... but reading the reviews here long after buying the card shows it is very possible.

1. Be sure your power supply unit is at least 600Watt.

2. It's recommended to uninstall the existing graphics driver before installing the new card.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst graphics card

Pros: Mantle, 4gb 512bit gddr5 (nice since nvidia 780 ti is 3gb) , and the multiple cards without a crossfire bridge is nice. Video card looks beautiful. three pretty fans. nice box packed well.

Cons: Never got to see any of the pros myself since this card never was able to successfully work. I installed this card into a new build with clean install of windows 7 pro and when it would boot up before I was even able to install drivers I have green line columns throughout the entire screen but still see desktop so I tried drivers which came with card first then I tried the beta drivers both game black screens or random colors throughout sometimes instant restarts and crashes. have had this card and been trying to get to work for over a week. I should have went nvidia

Other Thoughts: If I could have at least seen card work I would have given more than just one star but since I can not get in to just windows without computer crashing then sorta leave me no choice. I will be sending graphics card back and demanding a refund dead upon arrival. I wish I could have gotten it to work build entire machine and will be let down till I get video card replace with one that will work.

1 out of 5 eggsr9 290x, an expierence in quality control

Pros: AMD's top of the line gpu, great for gaming, rendering, or mining.

Cons: AMD's top of the line gpu with a premium price to match, worked for a total of 16 hours before I got the all too common black screen problem. The computer doesnt blue screen, it doesnt lock up, I was still talking in vent and could hear a video going, but the screen was black and not in standby.

Other Thoughts: For a top of the line card with a price as high as this i would really hope AMD and their partners would put a little more work into quality control, this isnt an Isolated incident, it is a common problem with these almost 700$ cards and it really shouldnt be.

At this point I dont know whether to return it to newegg for someting else or attempt an rma with gigabyte only to get another of the same card that could very likely have the same problems, not to mention going through another 2 weeks atleast before i have something else in hand.

1 out of 5 eggsBlack Screen Problems

Pros: Comes in a cool black box.

Cons: Had this card for over 30 days now and have officially given up on trying to fix the constant black screens and the system hanging.

I have tried all of the different drivers and beta drivers. Fresh install of the OS and nothing will fix the black screens. The black screens happen randomly and may start occurring as soon as I boot up the system or a day after the computer turned on. The screen then may come back but often stay black and the computer hangs and I have to turn off the PSU to get the computer to turn off.

I was hoping that the new beta drivers would finally fix the issue but they have not. So now I am stuck with this malfunctioning card as I have spent the last 30 days trying to get it to work and can no longer RMA.

Other Thoughts: I've read a lot of reviews where people are not having this black screen issues but I have also seen a ton of threads where R9 290x's are having the same black screen issues.
Google "r9 290x black screen issue" and there are numerous forum threads with people describing the same problem that I have encountered with my card.

1 out of 5 eggsBlack screen of death

Pros: None.

Cons: I got 2 of these cards and both black screen after 20 minutes of gaming or even just idling on the desktop after an hour. Using 1 card at a time yields the exact same results. The rig these were to be install on has a corsair i1200 PSU, so power is not the issue. (these cards draw about 260 watts under load until they crash). Some times immediately after startup. BSOD. I have independently tested both cards on 3 machines all with over 900 watt power supplies and run into the same problem on all 3 machines. Windows re-installation with fully updated drivers does not help what so ever. There are a ton of people that have this exact same problem with these 290x cards reading in the forums. AMD refuses to acknowledge the issue, and I refuse to purchase AMD ever again (this was their first and last chance for by business).

Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY THIS CARD UNTIL AMD FIXES THE ISSUE. It is not gigabyte specific as this is reported across all brands. AMD needs to figure this out and either fix their drivers, or acknowledge the issue formally and replace the cards.

Pros: Big, nice menu, 2ms respond time.

Cons: Had to search the Internet to find the best color settings. Also is limited to HD 1080p. Wished it was Ultra HD at 1440p.

Pros: One of the fastest SSD. Don't buy the 128GB though cause for some reason is slower. Choose the 256GB, 512GB or 1TB.

Cons: None.
