The Radeon R9 290X, the AMD's new flagship GPU, offers the weapon of choice for gamers who demand the best. It's based on the new 28nm Hawaii GPU architecture and introduces the support for DirectX 11.2, capable of rendering reality-redefining imagery in the hottest titles. With a massive number of stream processors and a gigantic 4GB GDDR5 memory, this GPU delivers the performance you need for smooth gameplay at extreme settings. The new CrossFire technology allows you to build a multiple graphics card configuration without the use of interconnect bridges. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you will leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies are included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

This model is BIOS overclocked for smoother gameplay, and comes equipped with new WINDFORCE 3X 450W cooling system for reliable cooling even under extreme loading.

  • newegg NEW WINDFORCE 3X 2 SLOT 450W cooling system Keeping the same 450W cooling capacity using only two slots, the New WINDFORCE 3X 450W cooling system is equipped with two 8mm and four 6mm cooper heat pipes, inclined fans, and GIGABYTE “Triangle Cool” technology. This not only provides an effective heat dissipation capacity, but also enables higher performance due to a lower temperature.
  • newegg Smart Fan Control With built-in a hardware switch, you can easily change the fan profile to silent mode or performance mode. In Silent Mode, the fan always runs at low speeds to provide a quiet working environment unless the GPU reaches a certain high temperature. In Performance Mode, the fan speed will be dynamically adjusted based on the GPU temperature variation; this can keep the GPU temperature lower to get a better performance.
  • newegg Built for Crossfire The card features the next generation CrossFire support for up to four graphics cards with no interconnect bridge required.
  • newegg Mantle There’s optimization, and then there’s Mantle. Games enabled with Mantle speak the language of GCN architecture to unlock revolutionary performance and image quality. (Application support is required.)
  • newegg AMD TrueAudio Technology AMD TrueAudio technology brings the world’s first programmable audio pipeline marking a new frontier in realism for PC gamers. AMD TrueAudio technology empowers game developers with a programmable audio pipeline on the GPU, inviting them to put their unique artistic fingerprint on in-game audio in the same way that the programmable graphics pipeline brought unfettered artistic vision to PC graphics. Enabled games can feature more realistic environmental dynamics, a richer tapestry of sound effects, breathtaking directional audio, and more. AMD TrueAudio technology enhances audio realism by simulating the human brain’s perception of real-world sound, working in concert with the user’s existing audio hardware to recreate a lifelike experience.
  • newegg See More, Win More! The card is capable to turn your computer into a super gaming machine. Enjoy the latest 3D games with stunning graphics and effects that your enemies cannot match! Get an immersive experience with AMD Eyefinity! Expand your game across up to four displays, while your opponents have one monitor. Along with all-new support for stereo 3D, universal bezel compensation, and brand-new display configurations, take unfair advantage over your opponent and win more with surround sight.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA while you can... it's not the software.

Pros: When you tinker with them long enough to get them to work... let alone in crossfire and not crash.... GREAT! A huge improvement to my lone GTX 760 I had previously.

Cons: Instability... the dreaded graphical glitches that take the whole screen followed by a display driver crash... followed closely by a complete computer lock-up. What's worse is that sometimes you can't even restart the computer for days because after windows boots to home screen you have roughly 10 seconds until black screen. Real nice... I've already done 6 restarts today trying to get past that 10 second mark.

Other Thoughts: These cards have been nothing but a headache for me. Bought two in early February along with a 850 watt power supply to feed them for my gaming pc. installed them. First round of problems came shortly after. should have RMA'd then and there. Crashes mid game that were preceded with graphical anomalies across the screen. My mistake was I tried to deal with the problems. I checked everything, software was up to date cards were seated properly. taking out one of the 290x's would fix for a period of time then the errors would become too much again. switch out the 290x with a gtx 760 and perfect. Eventually I thought the problem was my power supply not giving the 290x's the power they need. switched my old 650 Watt PSU in running just one card and that worked for the last few months with glitches still happening but I hoped that maybe it was a software problem that would be fixed in the AMD driver... Well looks like my waiting might have done me over. Not even sure if I can even get replacements for both of my 290x's anymore. As I seem to have wasted $1400 for two paper weights.

2 out of 5 eggsI give up. I gave it six months though.

Pros: Great when it works.

Cons: It rarely works.

Other Thoughts: Same issues as many other reviewers (BSOD, artifacts, flicker, microstutter, etc.). I enjoyed the challenge of problem-solving at first - changing drivers, tweaking with Afterburner, searching for solutions on the Net, making sure the problems were not from power supply, mobo, memory, whatever. The ratio of downtime/uptime has slowly increased to the point where the card is unusable and I'm running only on standard VGA settings. I'll order something different and try to forget about Gigabyte.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works very well when its working.

Cons: I've owned two of these cards, they have both burnt out, the first was DOA and the second lasted about two months.

Heats the room up even when idle.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy one of these GPU's from gigabyte. EVER!

Be sure your power supply unit is at least 600Watt for a single card or 750Watt for two cards.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, For a week

Pros: Favorite card in a long time, when I first got it. Handled everything like a champ with great cooling and graphics quality

Cons: Started fullscreen glitching and locking up PC so I RMAed it. Im a computer techician so I understand parts come in DOA, end up malfuctioning, or etc so I didnt hold it against the product. Now after receiving it from the RMA process, it worked for about 15 minutes after driver was installed. Restarted it and the screen starts freaking out with black flashing and broken lines. So 2nd RMA begins...

Other Thoughts: I am not blaming the 290x chip which is a marvel and is amazing from other manufacturers. Im giving Gigabyte 1 Egg, for releasing a wave of malfunctioning hardware to consumers and not accepting the blame

1 out of 5 eggsReplacement Borked

Pros: Fast, no matter how much AA I throw at it, the FPS doesn't go down.

Cons: This one lasted a little longer this time, but it also started getting corruption on textures and level geometry in games.
Shortly after the video driver crashes.
First time it happened I restarted my computer and it was fine.
Then it happened more quickly, and everytime it happened was sooner then the previous time.
Their is something fundamentally wrong with these cards.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the price of admission. I've seen some people "fix" the issue by underclocking/undervolting the memory, but what's the point?
It's like buying an F12Berlinetta and being told you can only drive no faster than 80 km/h

1 out of 5 eggsAwful

Pros: Strong PCB, will not flex when installed.
Quiet.
Cool(ish).
Solid build.

Cons: Getting black screen just watching youtube or even just using Chrome.
Touching any of the clock settings in Overdrive or with Afterburner causes memory corruption, and usually full lock up.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my two (2) Gigabyte Windforce 7950s which have been great cards.
However this card is faulty, and judging from reviews, I'd say that's how Gigabyte has designed this card.
It's been less than a week, and already RMA? I feel bad for people who've had this card several months and are stuck with it. This will be my last Gigabyte purchase, I can't believe they sell these things, it's pathetic, they did zero QA testing. As you can see from reviews, with such a failure rate, they would have caught the issues long before the product went to market.

1. Be sure your power supply unit is at least 600Watt.

2. Are you using the latest video driver from AMD?

1 out of 5 eggsstruck out again

Pros: Its shiny...

Cons: Still doesnt work after RMA to gigabyte

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte answered my previous review with a case number and were fairly prompt in responding. Problems continued when I sent in the card and didn't receive an update on the rma ticket even though according to my tracking number they had had it for 2 weeks. I had to call to get an update from the tech, being told they were dealing with a large volume of rmas, hm... I got the card back Monday (4-14-2014) Wiped the original drivers on the system, installed the repaired card, installed the latest beta drivers, went to reboot and in doing so the computer blue screened, had to do a full power down and back on for it to install "properly". After this my computer still had instability playing simple flash videos and on launch of certain programs, a problem it didnt have the first time before the card died. Then there was the heat problem, with the bios set to "uber" where the fan profiles are higher it still hit 70*C playing youtube videos. I am completely dissatisfied with this purchase and am hoping newegg will exchange it for either a working card from another manufacturer whether it be amd/nvidia, or a full refund for the purchase price. I've had good service from newegg before but this has been a very souring experience.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this one...

Pros: This card cools the VRMs very well and does a decent job on the GPU.

Cons: Died within 3 days using stock clocks. It had an easy life playing WoW and on day 3 randomly froze the whole computer after gaming for about 30min. After a restart I no longer had picture. Tried everything to get it working again, other pcie slots, re-seating over and over, different power connectors...... Nothing..... Put my second 290X "XFX DD" in the main slot and it starts just fine. Take XFX out and put Gigabyte in.... Nothing... It was dead, the fans still spun but no picture. I've never experienced killing a graphics card before so this is a first.

Other Thoughts: This seems to be common. I purchased my card at the big A and even over there you can find many poor reviews. As a side note, I took the cooler off while trying to figure out what was wrong expecting to find something burnt, I found two of the capacitors where bent almost all the way over. I pushed them back annnnnnnd they almost fell off. I don't know if the cooler did this or if it was even part of the issue. Just something I noticed. It had stretched the cap connector pretty good & didn't look natural at all. Didn't care if I messed it up at that point since I had already given up.

Good luck.

2 out of 5 eggsbummed out

Pros: it worked for three or four hours. and while it worked it done very well. played my games on max settings with no problems.

Cons: after a short time my screen went to sleep at first i thought it was due to me not moving my mouse or anything for a couple minutes. but then when i tried to wake my screen it said not receiving any signal from computer. tried a different cable with no luck. then tried a different monitor, after that i put it in another high end computer still would not work. so i put in my old gpu and everything worked just fine. also not sure what was supposed to be with the card but only came with two sli bridges, one threeway and one twoway. a disc, and and a graphics card quick guide and nothing else.

Other Thoughts: if they can send me one that works i will be very very happy with the card. But when it dies on me then there is a problem. thankfully my old card still works. i ordered this card to go with a very nice amd build including new gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud5 mb, amd 9590fx cpu, and thermaltake level 10 gt case.
