4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Very good performance. This card can run just about any game on Ultra 1080p and average 60 fps or more. 4GB of VRAM allows for insanely high res textures.

Cons: Runs very hot if your case doesn't have good airflow. If you have a place to mount a fan below the card you should do it.

Other Thoughts: The part of the cooler that has the windforce logo ended up pushing against the side of my case fan, if you have a skinny-ish case you might have the same problem, but this isn't a common issue.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA Update

Pros: Still a decent card

Cons: I sent this card in for RMA because it was overheating and unstable. Gigabyte's fix was to underclock my GPU and send it back.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this card or any other Gigabyte products unless you like being treated horribly in the RMA process.

2 out of 5 eggsWell i picked a whole patch of oopsie daisies on this one

Pros: What can i say, i came from using a playstation 3 for my primary gaming platform to a pc i built myself, for lack of better words, i was completely blown away by the graphics capabilities of the card, ran every. single. game. i . threw. at. it. ...........when it worked, see cons

2 rating because when it did actually work it was a very nice experience

Cons: Day 1:
woohoo i built a computer it worked! Lets play modded skrim, ooh or battlefield 4! or maybe even Civ 5 with fancy graphics.

Day 2: wow that was so cool yesterday, what should i play n...hey where'd the screen go? Hey whats going on here? Why are the fans on so high?, i'll just turn it off and turn it back on again..okay cool now lets play skyrim again.

Day 3:
Five minutes in it goes black, turn it off, open up the case, unplug the power cables plug them back in again might have been loose, ...okay were good again.

...Fast forward to day 5 (day of this review):
Starts up, goes on twitch, TWITCH, black screen, gone... Have to restart, come back a few hours later, back on twitch black screen within a minute of turning the whole thing on.

This is the story of my experience so far with this graphics card, this was my first pc so i figured some of the reviews that i saw for this were just some isolated incidents, this card looks just fine and the price was pretty nice (got it on sale). So i go on some tech support forums and live chat to actually figure out that this wasnt just something i was causing and am advised to contact gigabyte. Ooo fast technical support neato! i might be able to fix the problem today! Nope, when i click continue after specifying that i need support for a graphics card on their website, im thinking here we go solutions, solutions :D. Nope, error 404 link leads to nothing, call the number you say? on hold so far for 2 hrs, they are probably closed by now.

This experience has prompted me to leave this review here for all you folks out there, i hope i wont have to straight up purchase another card but its not looking good, with this card black screens will be common and support will be minimal, i would advise to stay away

Other Thoughts: darn i wish it worked... it was so pretty...i hate to leave the negative review but this is just unnacceptable for a brand new high end video card.

5 out of 5 eggsStill unbeatable in every single way!

Pros: Now that I have owned this card for almost half a year. I will have to declare that it is the best of the best. I had done a good two month's of reading reviews, looking at benchmarks watching reviews and comparing the components used in this Gigabyte 290 OC Edition. That was after I had made sure AMD had the superior GPU.

You want to build on a good foundation and that's what Gigabyte has done. With there Ultra Durable VGA and the high end 8 digital power phase along with two phases for the memory alone.

High end is not about pretty lights on a GPU or glowing fans. Gigabyte knows this and didn't waste money putting lights and unneeded junk on there GPU. Instead Gigabyte made a true two slot 450 watt cooling system.

And it works great. Wind Force 3 is amazingly silent yet my GPU never hits above 72c and that's the hottest I can get it. When playing Battlefield 4 64 man and at 1080p using DX11 my fps is a steady 87fps I can get more with mantle but I have no need to use it yet.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My system specs, (for reference)

Gigabyte Z87X-D3H-CF
8GB Kingston HyperX Blu Ram
i5 4670k at 4Ghz (Summer OC normal is 4.4Ghz)
Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212
Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD (OS/MMO that I'm playing at the time)
Western Digital Black 1TB HDD (Games/Files/Ect)
Gigabyte R9 290 OC Edition
XFX XTR 750 Fully Modular PSU
Antec 900 (front fans medium/top fan low/rear fan medium/side fan slot just has a dust filter)

About 6 months ago I upgraded from a core 2 quad 4gb ddr2 and XFX AMD HD 6950 2GB I bought the GPU a month later and I'm happy I did. The 290 is one hell of a GPU.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate Firmware

Pros: Price, cooling, fast in games, pretty quiet. Mantle support in Thief game actually improved FPS.

Cons: Not super stable until I updated firmware (BIOS) and/or switched the fan switch to performance mode.
Running in adjacent slots shot the temps sky-high.

Other Thoughts: I got a couple of these to do some mining and gaming, but they wouldn't run in my pc right next to each other without overheating. My slots are really close though, so maybe that has something to do with it. This is with manually setting the fan speed to a high number (don't remember).
So put one in one computer, one in the other, all was well, but the gaming one would crash and freak out occasionally with a sparkly screen until I updated the BIOS (firmware?) - now it's rock-solid, which is great cause I was ready to warranty the thing. It was underclocked and still crashing in iRacing for some reason.
BIOS update process is a little weird, but I followed the pdf instructions and working great now.

1 out of 5 eggsLoud overheating card, poor RMA. DO NOT BUY

Pros: Very fast GPU when it works

Cons: The card has been overheating after having it for a very short time. It also doesn't auto run the fans to actively cool it's self regardless of the jumper position set on the board it's self.

Sent this card in to gigabyte for repairs. They received it over a week ago and still haven't marked it as received. It's unacceptable to have a warranty on a card but when you send it in, they take forever to fix it and send it back. It's even worse to not properly update the card's status while it is being repaired. Luckily I had tracking on the packaged when i shipped it and I know they received the card.

Still waiting on a response. I will never buy another gigabyte product if this is how they treat their customers!

4 out of 5 eggsStays Cool!

Pros: -Windforce X3 keeps the card nice and cool.
-As thin as a reference card.
-Runs Crossfire w/ my reference cars without a problem.
-Stays around 15C cooler then a reference card.
-Very quiet compared to a reference card.
-Very reasonable priced for a high end card.

Cons: Not one.

Other Thoughts: Overclocks completely stable @ 1100mhz / 5400mhz memory on stock voltage. Outstanding performance in Crossfire. Comes very close in performance compared to my 2-Way SLI GTX 780 Ti. Very impressive for a much, much cheaper cards. I would recommend these to any serious gamer out there. Remember to have a serious PSU specially if you plan on overclocking. 80+ Gold/Platinum PSU will allow the card to be overclocked further.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPU

Pros: This GPU is the best you can get compared to the other R9 290's out there. I've had it long enough to be able to say it runs everything with ease. It stays cool and will OC much more then the OC put on it by Gigabyte. The Wind Force 3 cooling system is great looking as well. It isn't all misshapen like some of the other high end cooling systems.

If you have a few case fans running then you will never even hear this GPU. Yet it still runs very cool. Put in uber mode right away. It's fan profile allows the card to be cooled before it even gets to hot.

It also will power down and if you're just doing basic web browsing it will basically put the card in a sleep mode for a lower electric bill.

With Gigabyte using better PCB design with 2x the copper, it also makes this card run cooler and is built better then others.

Cons: Still None...

Other Thoughts: A few things I want to point out.

In 3DMark11 I get a score of 16479 GPU score. I don't do benchmarks much at all but I decided to see what it would do. So I downloaded the free version and did a run.

I notice that the memory even when oc'ed to 1400, putting it at 5600 doesn't really do much in any game and isn't noticeable in really any benchmark. So if you're going to OC don't worry much or at all about the memory since 5ghz is more then the GPU Core clock will need by far.

So once you do get this GPU the first thing you want to do is put it in uber mode as other's have said since it will run cooler overall and the GPU is still not going to really make a sound due to WindForce 3 being so effective in doing it's job.

I also want to say I can get a 1125 OC on the Core with no issues. Be sure to bring up the voltage as needed. I get to that clock with the power at 25% and I've hit higher as well. But I hit the point that there isn't much of a difference and I would rather keep the power lower. I use GPUz to monitor the Core clock and temperature of the GPU and vram. There are some games I play that are much more CPU dependent and the Core clock only goes up to around 800mhz but other games like Sniper Elite 3 will keep the Core at 1125 for a whole 3-4 hours. And not once the temp goes above 78c tops most of the time it stays at 74-75 or under. Also it never throttles the clock down.

That only happens on the reference cards.

I have a friend that bought this card as well. He had a GTX 770 4GB but he sold it since the price of this card is finally around where it should be. I just wanted to say his card also will OC as well as my card. And his case only has two fans 120mm intake and one 120mm exhaust. And it still runs very cool.

So based on looks, proformance and cooling it gets a 10/10.

If you're looking to upgrade then look no further, this card is a beast and looks as cool as it runs.

5 out of 5 eggsHawaii Pro is amazing!

Pros: I'm not sure where to start. This is without a doubt the best single GPU card that you can get. It has the most innovative cooling system I've seen. it can overclock much beyond its factory overclocked settings the memory will go up to 1350 with ease and the GPU will go up to 1100 but of course some will do better then others.

but I think the stock for part is perfect I think if anything you can bring it up another 50 and another 50 on the memory and you'll be setdue to the cooler doing such a great job the wind force 3 cooler definitely works great with this Hawaii Pro GPU and if you check out pretty much 99 percent of the reviews done on this card comparing it to the 780 Titan or any other video card, even the other Radian R9 or 290's the Gigabyte version definitely beats them with overclocking potential. it also runs the coolest out of the other 290's.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The reference design made this GPU look as if it was going to run much to hot. With Gigabytes PCB using 2x the copper and the great layout of the heat syncs then adding the 450watt Wind Force 3 cooling system. It brings the Gigabyte R9 290 OC Edition to the top tier in allowing the full potential of the 290 GPU. Allowing it to OC even higher on its Core clock and memory since the OC Edition is binned to use the better components.

Over the last few months before I decided to go with this card I looked at every review I could find, since I was thinking about giving Nvidia another shot. But after seeing the 290 beat the 780 and the TI, I started looking into the best 290 to buy, and review after review it was Gigabyte and then I seen the OC Edition and started to compare it to the other 290's in the same tier. I decided and put the order in.

It installed with ease and I had no issues at all. But I do recommend a good PSU. If you're putting this into a pre built PC or went with a lower end PSU on your build to cut prices. It's worth it to get a good PSU.
