1 out of 5 eggsCards DOA

Pros: None at the moment

Cons: Bought two of these cards for my 30th birthday and both cards were DOA. Installed and went to boot absolutely nothing. VERY disappointed!!!

I understand supply and demand and the increase in price but when paying this much i expect the products to work!!!

Other Thoughts: Have already RMA and waiting for replacements will give updated review when I have a working product.

1 out of 5 eggsStay AWAY from this card

1 out of 5 eggsBought 2, both dead, never buying Gigabyte again

Pros: Very heavy, would probably be a good paperweight.

Cons: Commits seppuku as soon as you ask it to actually render 3D graphics.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these cards and both of them died in less than a day after being put under load. That's with no overclock and not reaching over 80C temps. On top of that Gigabyte has the worst RMA policy in the business. Avoid at all costs

1. When running two cards, be sure the power supply unit is at least 850Watt.

2. It's very unlikely to have two bad cards out of the box, have you checked each cards, one at a time?

1 out of 5 eggsI'd watch out

Pros: Works well, if you get a card that works(knock on wood)

Cons: 50/50 chance of geting a working card(One card of mine worked, one didnt)
Customer Service and RMA process is awful. I've been in contact with them for over a month trying to get my cards to work. Now that I've shipped them my card, I can't get a response via e-mail. Not only is my card apparently "fixed(That means they didn't find anything wrong with it, meanwhile my e-mails with them prior to sending them my card said my card was defective and to send it to them for fixing), I'm still waiting on some sort of update.

Other Thoughts: My advice: Stay well away from Gigabyte if you're going to buy a new product from them, you don't ever want to go through there RMA process.

On the upside, they are really expensive paper-weights when I get back this card that they apparently didn't need to "fix"

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Rev 1.0 dead on arrival

Pros: The fan looks nice.

Cons: Black screen error 10-15 sec. after logging in to Windows.

Other Thoughts: I was very excited to have a chance to try out one of the legendary 290's. I installed the card, installed the drivers that shipped with it, and was disappointed to learn that I'd received one of the (apparently numerous) faulty Rev 1.0 cards.

It worked for about 5 minutes after installation. I restarted when prompted, and when I got back in to Windows, the screen flashed a very pretty pattern of little colored squares, then went black. Did two complete reinstalls of the card (remove drivers/software, physically remove card, reinstall), to the same effect.

Not much looking forward to having a paperweight instead of a world-class GPU.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Have not seen any unfortunately.

Cons: When I first installed the card + drivers, I went to test out BF4 and almost immediately the screen flashed black and Windows made a "device disconnect" sound...this would continue to happen until it completely froze up and I started getting artifacts covering the screen after about 2 minutes.

I RMA'd the card and they said they found nothing wrong

Tried the card in a different machine with a clean windows 7 install and its doing the same thing! I don't know how gigabyte didn't catch anything wrong with it. And of course I'm outside the return policy window...

1 out of 5 eggsNeeds to be returned for a replacement

Pros: Runs graphics amazingly well when it is working.

Cons: Crashes computer and freezes constantly. At intervals anywhere between 5 seconds and 2 hours during basic gameplay. Unacceptable for the price, hopefully a replacement works out and this is just a defective unit.

1 out of 5 eggsWill-Call

Pros: Will advise once I have the card.

Cons: Will advise once I have the card.

Other Thoughts: Seeing as I live in Memphis, TN I thought that I would just use the Will-Call service and pick up my new card on the way home. The center is open Mon-Fri from 10am to 7pm CST, says the NewEgg web site. This however does not seem to be the case. The Memphis, TN Center must close before 6:15pm CST because they sure were not there when I got there.

So thanks to everyone leaving early on Friday I am without a computer this weekend, as I have no Video Card. (I was being a nice samaritan and giving my old card to a friend at work. While its not the greatest in the world it is still decent.)

Guess I'll have to do something else this weekend now that it is shot with no Graphics Card. If I had know that it was leave early Friday at new egg I would have just shipped the darn thing to my office.

I'll update the review once I get the card but for now I will have to do something with my weekend. I had to borrow the laptop from work to type this FYI, no computer and all.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy only if you're feeling lucky

Pros: Ordered two of these to use with crossfire for maximum gaming on my 144hz monitor and also for mining cryptocurrencies. These are faster, quieter, and slightly cooler than reference 290s.

Cons: This product has the worst reliability factor I've ever encountered in any computer hardware in the last 16 years of systems building. If you read below you'll see that I had to RMA one right away and that I'm also in the process of RMAing another just a month later. That means that of the THREE cards I've used in the past 38 days, TWO of them have failed. I've never experienced anything like this before. And, even though the chips are designed to run at 95 degrees, I have actually UNDERCLOCKED the cards by a whopping 15% so that I can keep the temps between 75-90 degrees. Even in an uncomfortably cold room I cannot get the temps any lower with this "Windforce" cooling system--definitely a disappointment there. I don't know what's wrong with these GPUs but if I could start over again I would buy the Sapphire Tri-X or just pick up the cheaper reference design and deal with all the noise and 95 degree temperatures.

Other Thoughts: Both cards arrived "new" in opened boxes without plastic wrapping. And guess what? One of the two cards was DOA, as it couldn't handle any load without causing blackscreens! RMA'd for a replacement and, two weeks later, it is still functioning, thankfully. Unfortunately, the OTHER card has now died after only 38 days (8 days too late!) and I am stuck going through Gigabyte warranty hoping for a replacement that will last longer than a few more weeks. This is the worst $1,200 I ever spent on computer hardware--I really do feel like I've been robbed. STAY AWAY--YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

1 out of 5 eggsConstantly Crashes

Pros: Typically runs cooler by 10 degrees than reference cards.

Cons: I bought 3 and one was faulty right out the box. Tried it on 3 different computers under different OS' reloading drivers and testing in Furmark. I sent it back as an RMA and will not be replacing it. I own 5 R9 290s (2 are the gigabyte) I use them for mining coins and these cards are the most troublesome. They crash often and their performance differs. I would not purchase these again even given their higher clock rate. One bad card is one thing but the other two are troublesome for what I use them for.

Other Thoughts: Your chances of getting a bad card are higher with these.
