5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPU

Pros: This GPU is the best you can get compared to the other R9 290's out there. I've had it long enough to be able to say it runs everything with ease. It stays cool and will OC much more then the OC put on it by Gigabyte. The Wind Force 3 cooling system is great looking as well. It isn't all misshapen like some of the other high end cooling systems.

If you have a few case fans running then you will never even hear this GPU. Yet it still runs very cool. Put in uber mode right away. It's fan profile allows the card to be cooled before it even gets to hot.

It also will power down and if you're just doing basic web browsing it will basically put the card in a sleep mode for a lower electric bill.

With Gigabyte using better PCB design with 2x the copper, it also makes this card run cooler and is built better then others.

Cons: Still None...

Other Thoughts: A few things I want to point out.

In 3DMark11 I get a score of 16479 GPU score. I don't do benchmarks much at all but I decided to see what it would do. So I downloaded the free version and did a run.

I notice that the memory even when oc'ed to 1400, putting it at 5600 doesn't really do much in any game and isn't noticeable in really any benchmark. So if you're going to OC don't worry much or at all about the memory since 5ghz is more then the GPU Core clock will need by far.

So once you do get this GPU the first thing you want to do is put it in uber mode as other's have said since it will run cooler overall and the GPU is still not going to really make a sound due to WindForce 3 being so effective in doing it's job.

I also want to say I can get a 1125 OC on the Core with no issues. Be sure to bring up the voltage as needed. I get to that clock with the power at 25% and I've hit higher as well. But I hit the point that there isn't much of a difference and I would rather keep the power lower. I use GPUz to monitor the Core clock and temperature of the GPU and vram. There are some games I play that are much more CPU dependent and the Core clock only goes up to around 800mhz but other games like Sniper Elite 3 will keep the Core at 1125 for a whole 3-4 hours. And not once the temp goes above 78c tops most of the time it stays at 74-75 or under. Also it never throttles the clock down.

That only happens on the reference cards.

I have a friend that bought this card as well. He had a GTX 770 4GB but he sold it since the price of this card is finally around where it should be. I just wanted to say his card also will OC as well as my card. And his case only has two fans 120mm intake and one 120mm exhaust. And it still runs very cool.

So based on looks, proformance and cooling it gets a 10/10.

If you're looking to upgrade then look no further, this card is a beast and looks as cool as it runs.

5 out of 5 eggsHawaii Pro is amazing!

Pros: I'm not sure where to start. This is without a doubt the best single GPU card that you can get. It has the most innovative cooling system I've seen. it can overclock much beyond its factory overclocked settings the memory will go up to 1350 with ease and the GPU will go up to 1100 but of course some will do better then others.

but I think the stock for part is perfect I think if anything you can bring it up another 50 and another 50 on the memory and you'll be setdue to the cooler doing such a great job the wind force 3 cooler definitely works great with this Hawaii Pro GPU and if you check out pretty much 99 percent of the reviews done on this card comparing it to the 780 Titan or any other video card, even the other Radian R9 or 290's the Gigabyte version definitely beats them with overclocking potential. it also runs the coolest out of the other 290's.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The reference design made this GPU look as if it was going to run much to hot. With Gigabytes PCB using 2x the copper and the great layout of the heat syncs then adding the 450watt Wind Force 3 cooling system. It brings the Gigabyte R9 290 OC Edition to the top tier in allowing the full potential of the 290 GPU. Allowing it to OC even higher on its Core clock and memory since the OC Edition is binned to use the better components.

Over the last few months before I decided to go with this card I looked at every review I could find, since I was thinking about giving Nvidia another shot. But after seeing the 290 beat the 780 and the TI, I started looking into the best 290 to buy, and review after review it was Gigabyte and then I seen the OC Edition and started to compare it to the other 290's in the same tier. I decided and put the order in.

It installed with ease and I had no issues at all. But I do recommend a good PSU. If you're putting this into a pre built PC or went with a lower end PSU on your build to cut prices. It's worth it to get a good PSU.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card with caveats

Pros: Card is blazing fast, headroom for more overclocking. I was skeptical of the R9 290 after initial reviews with temperature and noise levels, but it is barely louder than my old 7850, and hasn't gone over 70 C so far. Running at 1440p with ultra details and high frame rates

Cons: AMD still has work to do on their drivers. Eyefinity is still a hassle when not in games, issues persist with monitors waking from sleep.

Card is massive, but that was expected. In an Antec 900 I had to remove the fan bracket from the hdd cage to install.

5 out of 5 eggsMust have gotten lucky or its simply great

Pros: Price and Performance

Maybe its because I didn't use this for mining (most reviews for failed cards mention mining), or maybe its because I got lucky, or perhaps gigabyte has gotten their act together.
But mine works and works well.

100% of the games I have tried played on max graphics, 100% of them!

hard reset
battlefield 3
tropico 5
bioshock infinite
crysis 2 and 3
and more

all at "ultra" or whatever the max was, and all at 1080p with a very smooth framrate.
I also have an amd fx 8350 stock cooler. (Stock cooler is way louder than this graphics card.)

This card is way better than a gtx 770, almost as good as a gtx 780.
But costs about the same as the 770 (this is less if you get the 4gb version 770)

Cons: produces a lot of heat although it has not overheated

Other Thoughts: Since I have not had any problems with it I do not know if gigabyte stands by it under warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: Runs well and isn't really all that noisy.

Cons: I currently have it on an older system and it was not much of a speed increase.

I would rather of had $50 off than the ($150) in games.

The software that ships with it is poor.

Other Thoughts: I only got it to drive the Seiki TV at 3840x2160 and decided to wait to upgrade the rest of my system.

I do not play any FPS games and it never gets hot and the fans usually stay around 30% They would need to get to 75% before I could hear them over my case fans.

I have not upgraded the bios

MSI makes a much better graphics card utility called Afterburner

But the card was way less than the competition so I guess I really can't complain.

This is the second Gigabytes graphics card I have owned.

5 out of 5 eggsI just bought it, I've done my research.

Pros: This is one of the best GPU's you can get. It is the best GPU you can get for you're money.

I like that you can change the fan profile with the switch. But If you are buying a card like this. You should always have the switch set to Performance or Uber Mode other's call it. It will keep the GPU much cooler overall, thus keeping you're system cooler.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Remember to set the bios switch to Performance Mode if it is not already in that position by default.

Also be sure to have enough air flow in you're case, it can really change how the card run's as the 3 fan's need fresh air. IE: The Antec 900 would make a very good case for this GPU since it will push in cool air while the rear 120mm fan and top 200mm fan will remove any hot air.

Another thing allot of people are just starting to realize is having a good PSU is worth it. I'm not talking a 1000w PSU I'm talking about a great 600W - 750W PSU. So keep that in mind.

I've been waiting month's for these to come down in price and now that they are almost back to where the should be. Will make this GPU an even better option.

I've read many review's about this card. I was going to go for the non OC version for 20 buck's less but I thought that I mind as well get the OC version. Also the review's on this card are great as I said before. They put this GPU vs 7 other R9 290's along with 10 Nvidia card's and the fact that this beat's the 780 and is $200 cheaper in most cases is a great thing for AMD.

And as I said in my title, I have done my research. I have and this card is the best of all R9 290 and 290X not only because it is faster but because it will not down clock due to heat.

You hear people talking down about the card they got. In most cases it is because they have a bad PSU meaning cheap or old. Don't have the newest driver's as well as don't have enough air and need a better tower.

Once I install my card I will be back and let everyone know how it run's on my Setup.

Wish me luck. Thank's.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Rev 1.0 dead on arrival

Pros: The fan looks nice.

Cons: Black screen error 10-15 sec. after logging in to Windows.

Other Thoughts: I was very excited to have a chance to try out one of the legendary 290's. I installed the card, installed the drivers that shipped with it, and was disappointed to learn that I'd received one of the (apparently numerous) faulty Rev 1.0 cards.

It worked for about 5 minutes after installation. I restarted when prompted, and when I got back in to Windows, the screen flashed a very pretty pattern of little colored squares, then went black. Did two complete reinstalls of the card (remove drivers/software, physically remove card, reinstall), to the same effect.

Not much looking forward to having a paperweight instead of a world-class GPU.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Card with Some Issues!

Pros: -Looks good.
-Much better cooling solution compared to the stock 290.
-Blazing fast.

Cons: -Bios sucks. Fan controlling is not optimized for best Temperature/noise. The fans run much higher than needed. I had to use MSI Afterburner and make a fan profile to optimize it.
-The card does not run at advertised clocks. I had to increase the power limit by 16% in MSI Afterburner for it to run at advertised clocks 1040/1250. Otherwise, core clock fluctuates in the range of 990 - 1004 MHz with slower memory clocks as well.

Other Thoughts: Bought this card used.
I have used many Gigabyte products in the past. Many motherboards, graphics cards, cases, and power supplies.Gigabyte still has a special place in my heart as one of the most trusted brands in the industry regardless of my experience with this card.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card!

Pros: Great Card, 120fps+ constant bf4 on ultra, no black screens, have overclocked to 1150 and 1400 ram. No issues so far. This card deserves a better ratting than its getting here on newegg and I would not be scared to buy another one.

Cons: After running bf4 for a few hours the card reaches around 77c in a cool room and is fairly noisy. The cooling could be better but these chips are made to run up to 95c so I guess its not that bad.

Other Thoughts: I love it and would recommend it to any of my friends but if you had money to burn I would go with the saphire vapor x as it has a better cooling solution and runs roughly 10c cooler than this card.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - Stay away!

Pros: Efficient paperweight.

Cons: Dead on arrival!

Other Thoughts: I thought I may get lucky with a card that worked. Unfortunately I got a card that was dead on arrival.

Card is currently being RMAed. You might as well factor in the extra cost to ship this card back to NewEgg when you make your initial purchase...
