The Radeon R9 290, the AMD's new flagship GPU, offers the weapon of choice for gamers who demand the best. It's based on the new 28nm Hawaii GPU architecture and introduces the support for DirectX 11.2, capable of rendering reality-redefining imagery in the hottest titles. With massive number of atream processors and a gigantic 4GB GDDR5 memory, this GPU delivers the performance you need for smooth gameplay at extreme settings. The new CrossFire technology allows you to build a multiple graphics card configuration without the use of interconnect bridges. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you will leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies is included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

  • newegg NEW WINDFORCE 3X TWO-SLOT 450W cooling system Keeping the same 450W cooling capacity using only two slots, the New WINDFORCE 3X 450W cooling system is equipped with two 8mm and four 6mm cooper heat pipes, inclined fans, and GIGABYTE's "Triangle Cool" technology. This not only provides an effective heat dissipation capacity; with it, GPU Boost 2.0 technology also enables higher performance due to a lower temperature.
  • newegg Smart Fan Control With a hardware switch built in, you can easily change the fan profile to silent mode or performance mode. In Silent Mode, the fan always runs at low speeds to provide a quiet working environment, unless the GPU reaches a certain high temperature. When switched to Performance Mode, the fan speed will be dynamically adjusted based on the GPU temperature variation; this can keep the GPU temperature lower to get a better performance.
  • newegg Built for Crossfire The card features next generation CrossFire support for up to four graphics cards, with no interconnect bridge required.
  • newegg Mantle There’s optimization, and then there’s Mantle. Games enabled with Mantle speak the language of GCN architecture to unlock revolutionary performance and image quality.
  • newegg AMD TrueAudio Technology AMD TrueAudio technology brings the world’s first programmable audio pipeline marking a new frontier in realism for PC gamers. AMD TrueAudio technology empowers game developers with a programmable audio pipeline on the GPU, inviting them to put their unique artistic fingerprint on in-game audio in the same way that the programmable graphics pipeline brought unfettered artistic vision to PC graphics. Enabled games can feature more realistic environmental dynamics, a richer tapestry of sound effects, breathtaking directional audio, and more. AMD TrueAudio technology enhances audio realism by simulating the human brain’s perception of real-world sound, working in concert with the user’s existing audio hardware to recreate a lifelike experience.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat....for a few hours

Pros: Did everything I wanted....and more.

Cons: Loud under load (while I was able to put it under load)
Started freezing under low/zero load after having it installed for about 8 hours. Problems started with graphical anomalies at the windows desktop. Now windows won't start and there is a wide vertical line at the bios splash screen (as far as my computer would boot). Swapped out this card for my old 6950 and now the computer works fine.

Other Thoughts: Other reviews seem to point to quality issues with this model. I got it for cheap ($339 after rebate)....I guess I know why it is such a great "deal". Returning it for an R9 290 from another company.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Runs all my games at max settings, and I still get very good frames. 4GB of VRAM is a very nice bonus. The card itself is built very sturdily and doesn't feel like it will break at all. It trades blows with a GTX 780 for the most part, and it's $100 cheaper. I got mine for $369, making it one of the best bang for buck GPUs right now.

Cons: Runs on the warm side, despite having 3 fans. Highest I've ever seen it get is 82 degrees. Not stellar, but way better than 95 degrees that the reference models reach. Another possible con is that the card is pretty long at 11.58". Make sure you have enough space inside your case before purchasing.

Other Thoughts: If you're in the market for a sub $500 GPU, it's hard to go wrong with the R9 290.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great after silliness

Pros: Was able to push Far Cry 3 to max settings at 60 frames per second. Worked as expected... after one silly little issue. (See other thoughts)
Also runs quiet enough to be easily tolerable.

Cons: It's a Hawaii GPU, so even though there's this big, 3 fan cooler on it, it still becomes hot to the touch during games. Never got a temperature reading though.

Other Thoughts: When I first plugged this thing in and ran Far Cry 3 to test it, it got only 5 minutes in before I heard a loud POP in the case, and the computer turned off. At first I thought we got a bad graphics card, but it turns out that the OEM power supply we had in there (which was rated for 700 Watts) blew out under the demand of the R9 290. After some troubleshooting, we got a new 600W, and everything worked perfectly. No fault of the GPU, so I'm still giving it 5 eggs.

It's also quite long and barely fit in the case, not a negative, but be sure you have enough room.

5 out of 5 eggsBest card for the price

Pros: After my $20 Mfg. rebate I got this card for $319.99 and I could not be any happier. The card is VERY powerful when paired with my 4770k @4.2ghz and plays BF4 on Ultra like butter. Thank you Newegg for a such great offer for a such great fine product.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: Runs very cool at idle @ 38c but while playing BF4 on Ultra it can reach up to 80c which is still OKAY according to the Mfg. so all is well. No crashes and no artifacts. I like to set my fan speed to 100% while playing 3d games and OC to 1040 without any issues.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this on sale despite the negative reviews and couldn't be happier. Runs Skyrim fulled modded (RealENB package) 2560x1440 @ 30+fps with just a G3220. Highest temp I've hit was 77c and it isn't loud.

Cons: Hmm, it's really big?

5 out of 5 eggsNot a problem at all for me 2 months after ordering.

Pros: Super quiet, plays anything I've thrown at it. Even titles known for being tough like Arma 3 and Company of Heroes 2 play without issue at 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution (threw the Heaven gaming engine benchmark at it too and it handled it with ease, my old card would choke and die).

Intend to update to 1440p soon but this thing should run most of what I play at 4k at acceptable framerates in the future.

Cons: None to report. I have had no issues with the card yet at all.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: -Cool [Never gets above 78C@1150/1350mhz]
-Fast [Eats away at anything thrown at it]
-Quiet [Inaudible in Fractal Design Define R4, barely audible even at 100%]
-Relatively inexpensive and on par with 780 Ti when OC'd.

Cons: -Won't cook eggs like the reference design.
-meh drivers...nothing bad, nothing good

Other Thoughts: When I first saw the R9 290 series, I was just about to purchase them, but realized how bad the stock coolers were, not to mention Newegg's price gouging. I waited, until I saw this, on sale for 379.99USD. Despite some negative reviews, I purchased this, not sure what to expect. Now, 1 month later, I am completely satisfied with this, getting 60+ FPS consistently in most games, overclocking to over 1150MHZ core and sure to get even greater results when water cooled. Although the drivers aren't perfect, they are stable, and do everything I need. I am looking forward to purchase 1 or even 2 more to put them into crossfire, and see what performance benefits they will yield.

4 out of 5 eggsRMAwesome

Pros: So this is my re-review, I got my replacement, and I must say definitely an improvement. Firstly I want to talk about the cards placement, the original card didnt fit in the slot all the way it had a slight slope from the front to the back since it was the first of these cards I had installed, I thought this was okay., the new card fits perfect! I have ran benchmarks from tombraider on it with v-sync on max I got 60 max, 59.6 avg and 56 lowest fps, with v-sync off I got 88 max, 69.3 avg and 50.5 lowest. these are on ultra with shadows on high. I ran dual screen again with tomb raider not all that long because was having power fluctuation not from the pc but from the wall so I quickly stopped that test dunno what was causing that as it was my TV which is on a different outlet. Anyways I am thoroughly happy at the moment with the replacement seems very stable. Temperature has been 51 c so far. Amazing card when it works :)

Cons: None but the RMA I had to go through but manufacturing defects happen and considering how fast the card arrived after the long trip to CA from TN. Then the quick replacement from Memphis to me. I was happy to get a working awesome card!

Other Thoughts: Don't make me re-re-review this :)
