The Radeon R9 290, the AMD's new flagship GPU, offers the weapon of choice for gamers who demand the best. It's based on the new 28nm Hawaii GPU architecture and introduces the support for DirectX 11.2, capable of rendering reality-redefining imagery in the hottest titles. With massive number of atream processors and a gigantic 4GB GDDR5 memory, this GPU delivers the performance you need for smooth gameplay at extreme settings. The new CrossFire technology allows you to build a multiple graphics card configuration without the use of interconnect bridges. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you will leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies is included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

  • newegg NEW WINDFORCE 3X TWO-SLOT 450W cooling system Keeping the same 450W cooling capacity using only two slots, the New WINDFORCE 3X 450W cooling system is equipped with two 8mm and four 6mm cooper heat pipes, inclined fans, and GIGABYTE's "Triangle Cool" technology. This not only provides an effective heat dissipation capacity; with it, GPU Boost 2.0 technology also enables higher performance due to a lower temperature.
  • newegg Smart Fan Control With a hardware switch built in, you can easily change the fan profile to silent mode or performance mode. In Silent Mode, the fan always runs at low speeds to provide a quiet working environment, unless the GPU reaches a certain high temperature. When switched to Performance Mode, the fan speed will be dynamically adjusted based on the GPU temperature variation; this can keep the GPU temperature lower to get a better performance.
  • newegg Built for Crossfire The card features next generation CrossFire support for up to four graphics cards, with no interconnect bridge required.
  • newegg Mantle There’s optimization, and then there’s Mantle. Games enabled with Mantle speak the language of GCN architecture to unlock revolutionary performance and image quality.
  • newegg AMD TrueAudio Technology AMD TrueAudio technology brings the world’s first programmable audio pipeline marking a new frontier in realism for PC gamers. AMD TrueAudio technology empowers game developers with a programmable audio pipeline on the GPU, inviting them to put their unique artistic fingerprint on in-game audio in the same way that the programmable graphics pipeline brought unfettered artistic vision to PC graphics. Enabled games can feature more realistic environmental dynamics, a richer tapestry of sound effects, breathtaking directional audio, and more. AMD TrueAudio technology enhances audio realism by simulating the human brain’s perception of real-world sound, working in concert with the user’s existing audio hardware to recreate a lifelike experience.

1 out of 5 eggsJust don't.

Pros: DisplayPort. Seems fast, I guess.

Cons: I've had to RMA it three times since I got it. Gigabyte refuses to accept that it's broken and replace it, so I have a video card with display corruption that requires me to reboot regularly. (Most of the time, when I reboot, it comes up to the login screen with little boxes of corruption everywhere.) I've owned this card for almost a year, and with all the time it's been out for RMA, I've only been able to "use" it for a couple of months. I would highly recommend STEERING CLEAR of this card.

Other Thoughts: I expected better from Gigabyte, honestly. They're not some no-name, unknown brand. The fact that they refuse to right the wrong is disturbing. I won't be getting another Gigabyte card any time soon, and my next video card will very likely NOT be an AMD (and CERTAINLY not an R9).

2 out of 5 eggsFAIL

Pros: -Runs all my games pretty well..But I have no clue how well it will perform in three years or so...if it lasts that long.

Cons: -HEAT.
-CRASHING.
-HEAT.
-Card's fans seem to be VERY inconsistent, as I had to RMA my first card because of it, then it started BSODing my computer, so I had to send for a whole different card. So far it's been doing fine but I've only had it for about 3 months.
-Terrible Customer Service wow. I have to say I'm VERY disappointed with my RMA experience and I do NOT plan on purchasing from Gigabyte again. Don't get me wrong, their products are great, but if you get a defective item, you're going to have to go through a strenuous time getting around their site. It's difficult, and it doesn't help that their RMA warranties and policies may as well contradict eachother...

-Did I mention HEAT? This thing gets ridiculous temps inside my PC that typically stays about 20 degrees cooler with any other card. The WindForce fan seems to be doing just about nothing

If this thing didn't run my games like modded Skyrim, Battlefield 4, and Crysis as good as I had expected buying this card, I think I would TOTALLY have given this item only 1 egg.

Super disappointed in you Gigabyte. This is super uncouth of you.

Other Thoughts: P.S. Your WindForce fan SUCKS

2 out of 5 eggsAlready doesn't work after 8 months

Pros: Runs games on high graphics and at a good steady 60fps.

Cons: Already seems to not function as well after only 8-9 months and I rarely ever played games with it because it was always super loud and there's no way to really make it run smooth and quiet.

Other Thoughts: This Graphics Card already seems to be running slower than usual and It's already been giving me issues with my computer and freezing during games when it's never done that before in the past. Would love to get a replacement or refund, but I've been getting beat around the bush my support at Radeon and now I'm just stuck with a "gaming pc" that can't even play games.

It's a joke how loud this graphics card is. I'd love to get a refund or something and buy a different graphics card instead since this one doesn't even work the way it's intended. It's got 3 fans and it's supposed to be cool? Nope. It ends up running really high temps a lot of the times and the fans get unbearably loud that I can't even stand to play any games on it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat card, if you can cool it.

Pros: More Vram than a PC should ever need unless you do graphics design or want to do eyefinity 3x2.

512-bit interface so you're future-proofed for a good while.

Solid construction. Feels like I could beat Gigabyte with it and still put it to use played whatever game I wanted to.

Cons: HEAT!!! ALL THE HEAT! Gigabyte knew that AMD stuff always runs hot and didn't think to supply a cooling source that could actually keep the card in operable temperature range! I wish I would've seen this problem in forums before I bought it so I could've just saved myself the time. A 450 watt cooling fan setup that can't hack it. Wth Gigabyte. This card has overheated playing video games that recommend a Radeon HD 4870, or GTX 260 with most graphics settings turned down to medium, or less, vsync and Anti Aliasing turned off. Gigabyte has approved my rma and once I get it sent in, I'm hoping to find that the fan system was faulty, or something of that nature because the fans were shutting off when my screens went blank in the middle of gaming.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I should've stuck with a lower end card, or Nvidia. Maybe I just have bad luck. I still have love for AMD. Gigabyte on the other hand, not so sure right now. The card in my situation will work and underpowered in AMD Overdrive options by -20%. I will edit if I find out that cooling issue was literally a defect and not a design flaw.

1 out of 5 eggsCard was stuck at 300mhz

Pros: Quiet and well built

Cons: When i got it i threw some games at it and and noticed very low frame rates, i opened some software and found out that the card would not ramp up past MHz. I attempted to contact gigabyte but no response. I waited over a week an still nothing.

Other Thoughts: I am very disappointed with gigabyte, i expect more from them.

1 out of 5 eggsDnn't buy this

Pros: Works fast an nice but...

Cons: My computer screen will sometimes go black for no reason, have to restart my computer an it will do it again after or be fine for hour up to days, then will go wig out an black out a few times in a row. Some times its many times a day, sometimes its once a day, sometimes its every few days...
Once it blacks out everything u were running messes up an games get messed up...
I would never tell someone to buy this or get one EVER.

Other Thoughts: Its been past 30 days, it worked fine first few months. So I can't return it... I paid $369.99 back in 7/12/2014 an have been dealing with problems for the past 3-4 months easy....
Wish there was something I could do...
The card is kinda heavy too an starts to bend after awhile has no support for the back for how long it is...

1 out of 5 eggsWorse card I have EVER owned

Pros: Listen to the reviews and save your self the trouble and money and get another card. It has been tried and tested by previous customers and the issue remains.

None: Unable to get the card to work properly to test.

Cons: Everything is bad about this card. No issues installing the card in my rig. Turned on my computer Windows automatically recognized new hardware and installed default VGA drivers. Updated the drivers using the installation disk and I get the "Blue Screen of Death" and continuous reboots. Went in to SAFE mode to uninstall the graphics drivers and everything works perfectly. Attempted to update graphics drivers via the Gigabyte website and the same issue. Went to AMD and used their Catalyst Control Center to update and also the same issue. I don't even know what to do with this, I want to flash the cards bios but cannot determine if it has the ELPIDA or Hynix memory installed. A total waste of $300!

Other Thoughts: My build:

AMD FX-8350 CPU w/ Coolmaster Seidon 120M closed loop CPU liquid cooling.

ASUS M5A78L-M USB3 motherboard.

16gb Corsair Vengence memory.

Kingston HyperX 3K 240 GB SATA III primary HHD.

SeaSonic 650-Watt ATX12V/EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply.

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 GPU

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy: $300 paperweight

Pros: Works great for a day.
Makes a nice paper weight due to its weight

Cons: Died after 2 days of use, just black screens on desktop, currently RMA through manufacturer, tech support is a joke.

Ugly to look at on top of all my papers.

Other Thoughts: I never will buy a Gigabyte again, thanks for taking all my money...

1 out of 5 eggsDual Digital Output not working

Pros: The card plays most of my games on max settings with minimal tearing. Unlike some reviews, my card stays fairly cool under load.

Cons: I have been trying for about a week the get digital output to work without success. My Primary monitor uses the HDMI port on the card. My secondary monitor uses DVI-D. Post-boot, both monitors seem to work (although the display is cloned.) However, after windows boots, my computer cannot detect the secondary monitor.

I have changed my bios to make the card my primary GPU and disabled the onboard graphics in hopes of resolving the issue that way. No avail. Catalyst doesnt detect another display either.

It seems like this card is only capible of pushing 1 digital display line at a time and if that is the case, this is a no-go for any multi-monitor enthusiast.

Other Thoughts: For a 300 dollar card, I would have expected better functionality.
