Ultra Durable VGA™

Lower GPU Temperature
Ultra Durable VGA board provides dramatic cooling effect on lowering both GPU and memory temperature by doubling the copper inner layer of PCB.

Better Overclocking Capability
Ultra Durable VGA board reduces voltage ripples in normal and transient state, thus effectively lowers noises and ensures higher overclocking capability.

Decrease Power Switching Loss
Ultra Durable VGA board allows more bandwidth for electron passage and reduces circuit impedance. The less circuit impedance, the more stable flow of current and can effectively improve power efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsMonster of a card.

Pros: Running at 1500 mhz on the core and 3780mhz on the memory by only adding 10mV. Pretty impressive at max 70C

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsits a beast.

Pros: so far the only game i've tried it out with is far cry 4. set it to ultra. changed reso to UHD, and turned off AA and it played it just fine. im not sure what the FPS were because i dont have fraps installed, but it was perfectly playable. probably around 40 - 50 fps i would think.

this thing is very quiet, even under load. ive had it running Collatz@home and Milkyway@home, and under 95% GPU usage, its plenty quiet for my living room. fan speed 45% and temps around 67c. all stock settings.

Cons: the only problem ive come across is running collatz@home with OpenCL is making it bluescreen. it did not do this with my old amd. running collatz with cuda ran fine. it may not be the card. it may be the process. i dunno. im not even gonna bother deducting an egg for this.

i have encountered terrible coil whine with this card. most of the time its not there. usually just in game menus and such. but when its there, its pretty loud, especially in my quiet living room. i deducted 1 egg for this, along with the fact of the price of this card. its expensive. but its not surprising. you pay a premium to have what is currently pretty much the fastest single GPU card available right now.

UPDATE: the coil whine issue solved itself it seems. after some time (a short time, in fact, perhaps after a 'break in period' I was unaware of) the coil whine vanished entirely. I no longer have any complaints about this card, and am very happy with it. on a side note though: my buddy has an identical card, same revision, and his still has coil whine occasionally. not sure why. his system is otherwise completely different than my own and he has so many fans in the thing you'd never even realize the card is making noise over the tornado that's taking place. my experience however ahs been great, so i'm adjusting my review to 5 eggs.

Other Thoughts: this thing is a monster. its large. and its heavy. it requires two (2) 8-Pin power connectors. the back plate on this thing isn't an issue for me in my itx case, but some with SLI setups might find this to be a tight fit if the cards are too close together.

My setup:
ASRock z97e-itx/ac motherboard
i5-4690k "devil's canyon" cpu @ 4.5 ghz
CoolerMaster Seidon 120m closed loop cooler
G.Skill 2x4gb DDR3 @ 2400
Samsung 850 Pro 256gb SSD
WD 3.5" 1tb Blue 7200RPM
Corsair HX650 80+ Gold modular PSU
CoolerMaster Elite 130 ITX case

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte Delivers Once Again

Pros: Crushes anything at 1080/1440 that you throw at it
Good looking cooler
Fantastic I/O with DVI-D, DVI-I HDMI and THREE (count them, THREE) Displayports.

Cons: Can't change the Windforce Logo Light Color
Takes more wattage than most other 980's but that's not the card's fault

Other Thoughts: Great card for the money.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Very fast, easily overclockable beyond Gigabytes G1 overclock. Can push this baby to 1500MHZ easily and it runs relatively cool around 60C. Plenty of VRAM for 4K gaming, however I prefer to run this at 1080P and max my FPS with Ultra settings.

Cons: Fast enough for 60+fps ultra on most games up to 1440p, not quite 4k ready.

Other Thoughts: For the money, may be more worth it to spring for the 980 TI (better price/performance I.M.O.) or 2x 970s in SLI. I bought this guy when it came with Arkham Knight and Witcher 3, two games I was going to buy anyway so it essentially was a 380$ card for me. Now i'm picking up a second one to do SLI, 3x1080p monitors.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Nice I had to purchase It Twice !

Pros: This Gigabyte Nvidia GPU has run everything I've thrown at it and handled it so well that I purchased a 2nd for SLI gaming. It does not disappoint, works better than advertised. Unbelievably crisp and vibrant graphical output while still keep its' "cool" The 3 Fan Windforce design is a definite plus and a most effective cooling solution.

Cons: The only non-negative thing I could say about this card is smell I caught wind of when "burning-in" the GPU. THIS IS NORMAL and should not scare you ! Once that card has had a good initial test-run, etc. the Card will odorless and quiet, as it normally should.

Other Thoughts: If you cannot get the 980Ti, for whatever your reason(s); you should consider picking up Gigabytes 980. As stated above, I started running my build with 1, and, eventually picked up a 2nd because of its' exceptional performance.
Note: All parts in my build were purchased from Newegg

4 out of 5 eggsP3D simmasta

Pros: Really struggled to get it going at first which was not helped by the Gigabyte tech support.
Got better support from NVIDIA after which really started to show what its made off.
Using this card on a couple of flight simulators and dang is this good.

Cons: Tech support is absolutely garbage.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat power but LOUD fans

Pros: - Very powerful, can easily power a 1440p monitor @ ~100 hz
- When the fans worked correctly, it was quiet under load
- Looks very good with the LED

Cons: For some reason, about a month after I received this card, the 3rd fan (Furthest from the IO shield) stuck at 100% speed, and has been stuck there since. I've tried everything I can think of short of disassembling the card to get it to run at normal speeds (even the other 2 fans run at normal speed!) but it refuses to cooperate. It's very loud even inside my case, with headphones on.

Other Thoughts: This card is quite powerful and was well worth the money, but I had to subtract an egg (I'd give it 3.5 instead of 4 if I could) due to the CONSTANT NOISE that is now emanating from my case. It gets quite frustrating when I'm trying to be quiet and the fan is literally spinning at full speed.

5 out of 5 eggsgood card but i would recommend a 980 ti if you have the money

Pros: very good card for the money if toy don't have the money for the 980 ti. runs cool never gets passed 75 C for me with a stock fan profile.

Cons: none that come to mind.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Powerful

Pros: Very powerful video card. Temperature stays cool (SLI build with an NZXT s340 case), highest I had with Arkham City in highest setting about 60C averaged 53fps, 64C averaged 58fps on heavily modded Skyrim game, I mean heavy 300 mods with many 2k and 4k textures (single card because Skyrim has SLI issues). I can hear the fan at full load but I think it is still pretty quiet compared to my previous video card. Only my opinion but it has a very nice design and the backplate with logo tops it all.

Cons: Gigabyte using blue windforce lighting?? It's not even their logo color. It won't be a problem with blue themed case but mine was black and orange so it does bother me A LOT! Also a long card so make sure to measure case before buying. Noticeable fan I thought it is quiet but probably not the case for the quietists.

Other Thoughts: I only owned this card for a month and I am very happy for it's performance. If it starts acting up by next year or before that eggs are going down to one so I will update if something comes up. The stupid blue led aside, everything on this card is well built and will recommend to buy it.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy Gigabyte

Pros: Decent FPS in 1080p while it was working

Cons: Had to RMA mine after about 7 months (3 months working, 4 months breaking) It was constantly crashing.

Gigabyte support is atrocious. The telephone support is run by kids who clearly don't care about customers or their jobs. The online eSupport was not much better and consisted of troubleshooting that goes like this: "Go buy a new power supply" "It can't be the card" "re-install the OS again" "Find a new hard drive" Guess what, after a month of troubleshooting nothing they asked me to do actually tested the card itself go figure! - finally said screw it and downloaded a GPU stress tester and was able to replicate my issue. This is when they said "You should just RMA it" /facepalm

Also, when you RMA you are going to pay out of pocket for the shipping, don't tell the shipping folks how much the card is worth because it will cost you $42 for GROUND. Gigabyte also refuses to reimburse you shipping costs. ($650+ in on this card now, should have waited and bought a 980ti right?)

This is a heavy card, it sags even with a backplate. Mine also had some noisy coil whine under load.

The "Windforce" cooler is totally unnecessary, EVGA/MSI's 980 runs at roughly the same temp at the same clock speed. No doubt this adds o the weight of the card and its sagging.

Other Thoughts: I'm admitting now that I bought mine at Micro Center but I felt compelled to post reviews here based on my experience with not only this card but also the manufacturer.

Overall I wish I had bought the MSI or EVGA 980. EVGA's step up program would have come in handy when the card first started going just as the 980ti came out. I've learned my lesson from this, will not buy Gigabyte again.

Hopefully this review helps others from this kind of situation.
