Ultra Durable VGA™

Lower GPU Temperature
The Ultra Durable VGA board provides a dramatic cooling effect, lowering both GPU and memory temperature by doubling the copper inner layer of PCB.

Better Overclocking Capability
Durable VGA board reduces voltage ripples in normal and transient states, thus effectively lowering noise and ensuring higher overclocking capability.

Decrease Power Switching Loss
This VGA board allows more bandwidth for electron passage and reduces circuit impedance. The less circuit impedance, the more stable flow of current and can effectively improve power efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsReally Cool Upgrade

Pros: The Maxwell architecture and the GTX 970 have gotten alot of good press lately, and my experience pretty much bears that out. I selected a Gigabyte Card 1) because I like their build quality and 2) because NewEgg got in a shipment and I was able to grab one of them.

I purchased this as a GPU upgrade for a 4 year old Phenom II X4 955 system (running at its factory 3.2 GHz) that is attached to a 60Hz 1080p display. This card may seem like serious overkill for this configuration and a good way to burn money on a hopelessly unbalanced configuration, but I intend it as the first step of a 3 part upgrade. Also, with the low 145W power consumption, I figured I could get away without upgrading my 500W power supply.

Anyway, this particular upgrade is working really well. Despite being saddled with a relatively slow processor and being installed in a motherboard that only supports PCI Express 2.0, the card can drive pretty much every game I own at my monitor's full resolution and refresh rate with all eye candy enabled and all settings maxed out. I also use the card for RAW camera image processing with DXO Optics, and I can now process a 16 megapixel file every 10 seconds or so.

Cons: None found.

Other Thoughts: This a a big card. In my case (an Antec 300 gaming midtower) there's about a 4 cm to 5 cm gap between the back of my full-sized ATX motherboard and the HDD cages, and the GPU barely fits.

According to the Windows 7 "Experience" built-in benchmark, upgrading from a Radeon HD6850 to this card only bumped my graphics from 7.7 to 7.9. This is clearly absurd.

4 out of 5 eggsNo Shrink Wrap?

Pros: Dual DVI, three DisplayPort, and one HDMI on a GTX970---great for SLI if desired later on. Works well with both a 4k monitor and a 2550x1400 monitor attached. Visual performance on par with a watercooled GTX Titan which I have in another computer.

Cons: Retail box had no shrink wrapping and inner ESD packaging had no tamper-proof seal. Only one of the two DVI connectors will support 2550x1440 output.

Other Thoughts: I was actually hesitant to install the card wondering if I had received a returned card although I had paid full price for a new, unopened, card. The card still had the plastic around the fans and the plastic covers on the PCI-Express edge connector (a nice touch) and the IO ports. This is the first time I have received a new card with no original shrink wrapping.

1 out of 5 eggsBattered and bruised

Pros: Arrived on time...

Cons: Box was dropped, the anti static bag the card comes in was actually ripped and perforated by the card because of the shock of the fall.
Needless to say card was faulty from the start, crashes constantly. Have to RMA.

Other Thoughts: What is going on? This card looks like it was dropped from a skyscraper. Unacceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, Mediocre Manufacturing

Pros: -Was the only card in stock
-Stupidly Fast
-Runs EVERYTHING maxed out on 1080p
-Runs most games maxed out at 1440p
-Cool Temps
-Fans don't kill me

Cons: !!CARD ARRIVED WARPED!!
-Feels a bit cheap

Other Thoughts: The PCB arrived slightly warped on the back. The card is a little over 12" long, so I did expect Gigabyte to add some rigidity to these cards. I enjoy playing games on the card and don't really mind that it is warped, but for people looking for a flawless build, look for a different card.
It's a 970. You can't go wrong gaming-wise with this card.

1 out of 5 eggsThis card makes me a sad panda :(

Pros: They were in stock...

Cons: I ordered two of these for SLI. After getting them set and booting my PC, it was disappointing to see my monitor display "no signal." Hmmm, maybe one of the cards aren't set right? Nope, set just fine. Did a cable get loose somewhere? Nope, they're good. Maybe one bad card? I remove one card. Then the other. The issue persists. I try both cards in various PCI slots. No luck.

Finally, I take both cards out and try the onboard graphics. Works just fine. Then I try my old EVGA 770. Also works just fine.

Now, I highly doubt I have two bad cards. Probabilities make that really unlikely. But what's really been disappointing is Gigabyte's customer service. I submitted a ticket last night, and nearly 20 hours later, I have received no response. I know my ticket is in the system, but they haven't even reached out to say "we have your ticket." And when I call customer support, it goes straight to voicemail. Pretty poor customer service for a $700 purchase...

5 out of 5 eggsBlows away my 780

Pros: Fast, Silent, Runs Cool, No Coil Whine.

Cons: None that I can detect.

Other Thoughts: I just got a Gigabyte GHz Edition 780 at the beginning of the summer. I had no plans to upgrade for a few years. Then these Maxwell GPU's dropped. I thought, well I can wait until Black Friday and think about it. I did not. I have to give this card 5 stars. This is the first night running it and it fairly easily demolishes my 780. I ran Unigine Heaven benchmark and watched the card boost to 1328 MHz and stay there right out of the box. I imagine it'll be fairly easy to reach 1500. Now some game results. I only have had time for one so far.

Finally, it is a big card but no bigger than my Gigabyte 780. It fits in this quite excellent Node 304 with a full ATX Semi-modular PSU.

1 out of 5 eggsBig Sacrifice for the performance Gain

Pros: Very fast card. Plays all current games maxed out @ 1200 res at high fps.

Cons: Huge coil noise. This is ridiculous that they even think it is acceptable. No back-plate, they are already charging you $20 above normal price. No blue led on windforce logo (You do not deserve it for paying only 20 above normal price).

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a very disappointing component. Contrary to what most websites are saying, this card is an overpriced piece of bad quality hardware. I did not want to but I will have to return it. I don't know if quality control is bad due to the demand or what.

2 out of 5 eggsDriver problems & lacking performance

Pros: - it turns on

Cons: -Driver support is lacking
- 344.11 Nvidia Driver installation fails
-344.16 Nvidia driver installation fails but can add the driver through device manager without any of the software options

score tested lower than posted scores in Valley Benchmark

Other Thoughts: Very frustrated with the driver installation as it seems faulty and inconsistent, every time I run the nvidia installer it fails,

I have a GA-Z87X-UD4H (gigabyte) motherboard & a 4770k @ 3.5 Ghz which ran fine on my previous graphics card

I was getting 30-40 FPS on parts of Wolfenstein the New order, which doesn't seem ok with me, considering this should be a new top of the line card and my CPU is up to snuff

it's hard to tell whether its the physical card or the bad driver support, but if these problems don't get resolved within a week I am returning this card and buying something else

5 out of 5 eggsBEAST!

Pros: Quiet, power efficient, powerful, great price.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from an AMD 7970 and I did not expect how massive of an upgrade this thing would be. This monster of a card has quite a bit of room for overclocking and is capable of running on par with a stock GTX 980 which is about $200 more. At 1500 mhz core clock, the temp hasn't gone higher than 66 celsius while gaming and I have not touched fan settings. Could not be happier with my purchase.
