3 out of 5 eggsPros vs Cons

Pros: The card is a good value, supports more modern features than a card purchased with a system of the AGP generation. For the price, if you are running integrated graphics and want to run games from 03 and 04 this should be a decent choice, if you can shell out just a little more cash, go for a card with a higher memory bus

Cons: 64 bit memory bus says it all. I installed in a Dell Dim4550 2.5Ghz P4 533Mhz fsb 1.5GB pc2700 which had a 128mb gddr 256bit memory bus (which is what lead to its superior performance over this card) on a 263Mhz clock speed. This ATI card is the Radeon 9700tx which was only sold with Dells (I know I was an IT analyst for Dell till August 07 for a sales call center that closed) I noticed the FPS on side by side between these two cards was about 40% favorable with the ATI, the only explanation was the 256bit memory bus. I suspected this would likely be the case when I ordered the card, but curiousity got the best of me and I decided to try it out as myself and a few friends were itching to know the results. I will sell the card for a good price to a friend who needs it, it worked great out of the box, as expected and is worth the $40.

Other Thoughts: Shell out a little more and get somthing with at least a 128bit memory bus. The older GDDR cards seem to have higher memory bus speeds compared to the value GDDR2 cards.. so if your running a card that was high end in its day.. might be a good idea to keep running it till you can shell out for a PCIe GeForce 8800GTX/S.. or 7800 or whatever you can afford.. keep your eye on memory bus speeds

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent 4X Agp Upgrade!!

Pros: Awesome worked like Donkey Kong as soon as I put it in! Now I can play all my games in high-res like WoW.. =P

Cons: Problem with the msi extra add-on live utility, had to use system restore to get back up and running.. otherwise, none.

Other Thoughts: Awesome card for the price!! Highly recommended for gamers!

5 out of 5 eggsaffordable compatibility

Pros: More compatible than the ATI it replaced. No fan (fewer moving parts), installed with no problems.

Cons: Didn't include a Windows 98 driver.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because I was having so many compatibility problems with my ATI 9600. This card has been a great improvement. Despite the description, it can install on 95/98 machines with a driver downloaded from NVIDIA. Mine is on a dual boot 98/2000 system with a mix of old and new games. So far so good.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent card for the money

Pros: Inexpensive 256 mb card with DDR2. Works with AGP 4X and 8X (I have 4X Old Dell Dimension 8200). Good drivers, pretty powerful for what it is. Plays HL2 with not too much difficulty. I have decent frame rates, but my PC is old and slow. To play HL2 Episodes or lost coast, you need to turn detail and anti-aliasing down, otherwise it runs in near slow motion.

Cons: Most of these 256 cards with ddr2 or ddr3 have only 64bit interface, while most of the plain ddr cards have 128 bit interfaces. I would be nice to have 128 bit on this card. Passive cooling is nice, but if you try to overclock it one bit using the nVidia D.O.T., it locks up.

Other Thoughts: 128 bit, with a quiet fan would bake this all an AGP motherboard would need.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent video card

Pros: Excellent video card if you are still stuck with AGP. I have it running 2 monitors, one being a 20" LCD at 1680x1050, and the other being a 17" CRT at 1280x1024. This card powers them perfectly. Would recommend this card to anyone still using an AGP motherboard.

Cons: Wish it had a fan instead of a heatsink, otherwise none.

4 out of 5 eggsnice

Pros: Nice card. I upgraded from a Gforce 4 mx440 so i noticed a big difference. didn't bother with software that came with it, just downloaded drivers off of Nvidia.

Cons: Runs a little hot in my comp. I'm going to put a fan on it. it runs at about 52C with web surfing.

Other Thoughts: It's a great budget card. Would have saved me the trouble if it came with a fan.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Good In Kubuntu Linux

Pros: This card works good in both Kubuntu Linux and Windows XP. Using DVI hookup with 20" LCD widescreen monitor at 1680 X 1050 @ 60 HZ. Video quality equal in both Kubuntu and Windows XP. No adjustments needed when switching between Linux and Windows!

Cons: None observed.

Other Thoughts: This card is a great value. It will breathe new life into an older AGP type motherboard. I am not a gamer so this card serves me well. Newegg service and value is great!
