Yikes. Don't buy it- bad architecture.
- Pros: None.
- Cons: Don't buy this card. I've been having intermittent problems with this thing ever since I got it. Usually you can attribute crashes to the fault of the application, or memory, but in this case its definitely this card.
I get multiple 'black screens' at intermittent times where the card simply fails to output a video signal and the audio goes into a loop. You can google this card (9600 GT) and 'problems' if you want and see that there is a fairly large bug associated with it. I stuck with it because it happened rarely, but don't be fooled- it gets progressively worse until this thing is basically a brick.
Wish I had the sense to avoid this thing before I bought it.
impressed
- Pros: More than enough card for the casual gamer
- Cons: The HDMI audio setup is a joke. The cable/header that the instructions read about are MIA. But I have my audio setup through the PC and 5.1 sound, not my display
- Other Thoughts: I do play games enough to know the cards limitations and thus have not gone there yet, so therefore I have not been let down
Great Value
- Pros: Open Box like the poster below. Came with every retail accessory including box though. I felt the need to post seeing as this would have been an excellent buy even at the retail price and would be a fantastic card for a budget build. I just wanted a card to hold me over for a few months and this is well above what I expected for the price. The improvement from a 7800gt was staggering.
- Cons: May run a big hot for some tastes I suppose. Idle 38-42, 3dmark load was up in the 65-67 area. Haven't seen it get that hot in a couple hours of general gaming though.
- Other Thoughts: abit ip35-e, q6600, 4 gigs ddr2 800. Haven't done a lot of gaming yet but I have a few installed and I can say at 1680x1050 Timeshift, Test Drive Unlimited, and Kane and Lynch Dead Men were all set to max and I don't recall anything under 35 fps for any of those games and even if their was it was probably back up in at least the mid 40's shortly after. Great card, very satisfied.
