doing great
- Pros: Definitely a good grfx card. i bought it to play team fortress 2 it does this with no problems, i usually get about 40-50 frames a second and thats on a single core gonna upgrade to dual core pretty soon hope it gets about 70 or higher once iam done.
- Cons: wish it had a fan on it i havnt had any crashes or anything but its always nice to have a fan on a grfx card
So far so good
- Pros: Price is right for a cheap upgrade. Silent with no fan. Windows 7 x64 drivers work on Server 2008 R2 since they have the same code base.
- Cons: None yet. Card will only run at x8 speed due to my modifications, but I expected that since I cut off the x16 pins to fit my x8 slot.
- Other Thoughts: I have a Dell T610 server that comes with really low end Matrox G200 based integrated graphics chip. The problem with it is that it only displays 4:3 ratios and on a 16:9 monitor (as is standard now) you see a stretched out and blurry image.
I bought this card which is an x16 sized card for my x8 sized PCI-E slot. I had two options... remove part of the PCI-E slot to allow this card to fit and void my warranty on the server, or remove pins on this $20 card to make it fit into the x16 slot. Yeah, obvious choice. I used a coping saw and a file to remove the last 33 pins (and the bracket at the end of the card), being very careful to not cut the 34th pin I needed... put it in the case and it works just fine after disabling the onboard video in the BIOS.
Booted Server 2008 R2 and downloaded the Windows 7 drivers from MSI's site... they installed great and a reboot later I was running at 1600x900 resolution (max for my monitor).
Sure beats buying a x8 to x16 adapter for $40!
Great Low Power Card
- Pros: I recently bought an HP Pavilion Slimline Desktop (64-Bit Windows 7). I wanted an HDMI card just to route signal to my TV. After a little research, I decided on the ATI Radeon 4350. Believing that all video cards of a specific genre are the same, I did not pay attention to manufacturer and ordered the first 4350 that popped up on Newegg's search list. That first 4350 card was manufactured by Gigabyte. The hdmi port didn't work. After extensive tech support debugging with ATI, they concluded that the power supply on my HP was not sufficient to support the card (the HP Pavilion Slimline only has a 220W power supply...YIKES). Upon further research, I kept finding people talking about the MSI versions of their cards requiring less power. So I bought MSI's version of the 4350 card. Popped right in and works just great. For those who don't know, when you buy a low-profile card, and need it to fit a low-profile slot, you need to purchase an additional adapter plate to handle the VGA port.
- Cons: No cons so far.
