The new member of MSI Lightning Series family, the N480GTX Lightning is tailor-made for extreme overclocking. MSI introduces the unique Power4 Architecture to provide the most powerful and stable power for the N480GTX Lightning, thus leading to significantly increased overclocking potential. The N480GTX Lightning is also rich in exclusive features, including the new Twin Frozr III thermal solution that lowers GPU temperatures by 18°C compared to the reference design and Triple Overvoltage through MSI’s Afterburner software.

  • newegg MSI Power4 Architecture The N480GTX Lightning features the industry-first Power4 Architecture to enhance the relevant design and material of four types of power supply. These include 16 Phase PWM design to provide three times more electricity for the GPU; the next-gen capacitor, Proadlizer x 4, to significantly enhance signal stability; the industry-best MOSEFT, CopperMOS, to supply sufficient and stable power to the GPU and memory; and the uniquely designed 6-pin power connector to provide the pure power for memory.
  • newegg Twin Frozr III Thermal Design The N480GTX Lightning is equipped the latest Twin Frozr III thermal design. A large nickel plated copper base is connected to a dense fin arrangement through MSI’s exclusive 8mm Superpipes. The front and the back of the card, including components like the memory modules are connected to two form-in-one heat-sinks. The whole package gets cooled by large, low-noise, 9cm double fan solution. When working under full load, the Twin Frozr III cooler is able to cool up to 18°C cooler than the reference design.
  • newegg Triple Overvoltage (GPU/Memory/PLL) by Afterburner When combining the N480GTX Lightning with the MSI-exclusive Afterburner utility, users can adjust the GPU and memory clock speeds as well as the voltages of the GPU, memory and PLL to unleash the OC potential of the N480GTX Lightning totally. The Triple Overvoltage function boosts the OC performance of the N480GTX Lightning up to 34% higher than the reference design and allows users to get the best-ever performance from a N480GTX Lightning.
  • newegg Extreme OC Performance The N480GTX Lightning even adapts the MSI-exclusive Extreme OC Functions to fulfill the hardware demand of power users. In addition to the V-Check Points and V-Switch for measuring and adjusting GPU/Memory/PLL voltage instantaneously, the Dual BIOS and XtremeCool can effectively prevent any potential problem under LN2 extreme overclocking. Moreover, the PWM Clock Tuner enables to raise the OC capability. All in All, the N480GTX Lightning is the king of graphics cards designed for extreme overclocking.
  • newegg Next-Generation Military Class Components The N480GTX Lightning is built with select next-gen Military Class Components. These include Hi-c CAPs with a lifespan eight times longer than ordinary solid state capacitors, the SFCs (Super Ferrite Chokes) that enhance current flow by 30% and solid state capacitors with a lifespan of 10 years. With top military class components, the N480GTX Lightning has a longer lifespan and better stability to build the best performance.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Very cool, great VRM controls. Nice binned GPU, stable at 875 with only a minor bump to voltage. (60 degrees running Heaven 2.5 bench on extreme)

Some bad reviews about VRAM modules blowing ... honestly there is very little need to OC your VRAM. The bandwidth and frequency of the DDR5 and the 384b BUS will not bottleneck anything.

Cons: Huge!! No diode on VRAM.

Other Thoughts: Discontinued after I bought it lol, but I'd need a new PSU if I though about SLI ...

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Amazing

Pros: The cooling on this card is state of the art.
$200 cheaper than a GTX 480 and performs closely to one.
I got the last one before it was deactivated.

Cons: I will more than likely have trouble finding one at $329.00 to sli with the one I already have.

Other Thoughts: If you can't find this card anywhere for under $350 I would suggest going with the msi GTX 570 twin frozer III model. It is similar to this card in performance if not better.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Card

Pros: Awesome card. Preformed right out fo teh box with no flaws.

Cons: LED's on the card tell the power usage, but nowhere except in a few online forums and one of the programs included does it tell you that. I was very concerned that I had a bad card to start.

Other Thoughts: The box it comes if is larger than the box my motherboard came in. It could do with a little less packaging. Some of the software is not low-mid tech skill friendly. Runs much better than my XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 which burned itself to death. Runs at roughly 40C at idle and maxes during testing at 67C. It is a hefty card though so make sure you mount it securely. Otherwise I am very happy with this purchase and I would recommend purchasing this card.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Fantastic card. Plugged it in, installed the latest drivers from Nvidia site and Afterburner from MSI. Scored a 7.9 in both Windows 7 graphics tests. Running all my games maxed out. Temp tops out under 60c. 3 year warranty. Excellent value.

Cons: Very large unit, check the dims and measure your case. Needs power, a lot of power. two 8 pin and one 6 pin power connector, able to handle 42 amps, 700 watt min.

Other Thoughts: My specs.

Xeon W3580
Kingston Hyperx DDR3 2000, 3GB

4 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: Comes with a lot of very good overclocking software, obviously any 480 is blazing fast.

Cons: Doesn't overclock nearly as well as I was hoping.

Other Thoughts: at 310 bucks its good value and better than any 570 you will find, just don't expect an overclocking dream.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this thing!!!

Pros: Overclocked to 850mhz on stock voltage, Im sure it will go higher if I raised the voltage. This thing is as fast as a stock 580 once overclocked. Idle's in the 30's full load while playing crysis 71 while staying almost silent. The build quality and attention to detail on this cards is amazing.

Cons: are you kidding me

Other Thoughts: I love this card so much I ordered another one for sli. I love the design and look of this card. Matches my Rampage 3 extreme perfectly. Absolutely Amazing!!

2 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Defective cooling fans spin at full speed 100% of the time, regardless of temperature. Louder than a hair drier. Driver reinstall no help. Trying to RMA, now it's out of stock. Wonderful.

Other Thoughts: My first experience with any MSI product and I'm extremely disappointed. Got a defective unit and now I can't replace it with a working one because they're all gone. I'll go with EVGA or ASUS from now on, never ever a problem.

4 out of 5 eggsin response to poor review

Pros: It is a fast card. I would definitely consider getting this card if you are running 2560x1600. Especially over a 570. The core and shader freq's are their but the memory bandwidth is still why this card is priced for a premium.

Cons: If you are running 1900x1200 or 1920x1080 go with the 570's. As far as max res cards, few bucks more gets you quite a bit more muscle with the 580's though these do overclock to 580's class of performance and beyond. Though as I said before, for a few bucks more their are some fine very overclockable 580's out there..

Other Thoughts: 2560x1600 is no joke, and neither are these cards. 570's just flat out will not perform like these at that resolution. Especially oc'd.
