3 out of 5 eggsRuns to hot

Pros: When the card works it's great.

Cons: This card has a problem with overheating. Even after down clocking and turning the fans all the way up. It still flirts with high temperatures.

Other Thoughts: I am going to keep it but I am very weary of this card. If I had to do it over again I would probably go with a different card.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Had the card for over a month now. My Wife's PC is running MSI 870-G45, Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8, 4GB G-Skill, and this card. Easily plays CS:S/DOD:S/TF2 on high with vsync, I set fps_max 60 to keep it reasonable, it jumps 99-200 constantly. My wife played Dead Island non-stop not sure how she set settings but was definitely smooth and beautiful. Nukem Forever, GTA4, BF:BC2 etc etc

I worry about it playing BF3 decently though, I didn't try the beta so I'm not sure if I should get it on PS3 or PC! I can't upgrade everything for it hah

Cons: They could have made it free?

1 out of 5 eggsYikes! Black Screen ... me too!

Pros: When it works, it does well and can be used on computers with weak power supplies (mine is 300w).

Cons: It's DEFECTIVE! It will freeze my PC, crash my PC, or not send any signal to my monitor (black screen).

Other Thoughts: I talked with the MSI Support rep and he said they might replace it if they found something wrong with it. Given that they keep selling ones that don't work, I am pretty sure I know how that would turn out!

I will get me refund, less 15%.

1 out of 5 eggsBlack Screen Problem as well DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD!!!

Pros: Price, when it wasn't giving me a black screen, it ran nicely.

Cons: Black screen during games whenever the card was under heavy load. Replaced PSU thinking it was a power issue, problem continued. Used MSI Afterburner to downclock it to stock speeds AND BELOW, and it still remained unstable and black screened.

Other Thoughts: I swore to myself after an MSI motherboard died on me (only motherboard in 10 years that died) that I'd never purchase one of their products again. But I let the price get the best of me. Naturally the card started acting up after the RMA period. I don't fault Newegg.

Go for the ASUS GT430. You won't be disappointed.

3 out of 5 eggsBlack Screen Problems

Pros: Can play most games out now.

Cons: Whenever I play Call of Duty4 or Counter Strike Source, I need to have V-sync enabled. I've tried downclocking it to stock settings and installing the drivers, but nothing works. If there's a solution, I'd like to know it.

Other Thoughts: Would've had 5 eggs if it didn't black screen.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64

Pros: The MSI Geforce GT430 works under Ubuntu 64 bit 10.10. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers using Launchpad PPA instructions. I have my monitor connected to the DVI output and use onboard SPDIF on my motherboard for sound. There are instructions online to get the HDMI sound to work on Ubuntu 10.10 using the Geforce GT430. The video card plays back High Definition video very well.

The 2 fans provide good airflow. I use an Antec 300 Illusion case with 5 case fans.

On Ubuntu 10.10 video playback works well under Totem movie player and Fluendo Moovida Pro.

Cons: I have no cons for this video card.

Other Thoughts: The instructions list power supply requirements as minimum 350W or greater and a minimum 12V current rating of 36 Amps. I use a Corsair 550VX which is 550W and has a 12V current rating of 41 Amps.

I am not a gamer so I cannot comment on gaming performance.

2 out of 5 eggsMSI and my 3 PCs don't get along

Pros: when a GT 430 works it will really bring up your video scores in Windows 7 a 3 of mine went from a low 5 or high 4 to 7.6-78 with the card

Cons: the drivers from both MSI and Nvidia, don't work with this card and my pc, it would seem... i bought this MSI Nvidia GT 430 and an EVGA GT 430, the EVGA works in any of my 3 similar setup PCs and this MSI does not work in any of them... the Windows 7 repeatedly goes to BSOD and Windows reports the same error in all 3 PCs as "the video driver has recovered from an unpected error and been restarted" i would have gotten 2 EVGA's but wanted the rebates

Other Thoughts: the GT 430 doesn't need as much of a PSU as most the vendors list.. and Nvidia's web site also says they only need a 300
Thermal and Power Specs:
Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 105C C
Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) 69 W
Minimum Recommended System Power (W) 300 W

4 out of 5 eggsnow I can play some games

Pros: I can play gta4 without it looking like a slide show
can play my older games on high and they run great
good replacement for my x1300
fits in a BTX case...kinda

Cons: artifact on windows load screen

had to cut the plastic edge of the fan to fit in my BTX case - its just extra plastic, doesn't need to be there, doesn't direct airflow

Other Thoughts: its in a tower now so hopefully the vga output will fit "behind" the card as it will eventually make it into a LP desktop for a HTPC (also BTX)

I also do not know if the driver disk works - I never use them and hate people who deduct eggs because the disks have older drivers *end of rant*
