3 out of 5 eggsBeware of Rebates

Pros: Does what I expect a fanless entry level graphics card to do. Good driver support.
I was hoping for much improved performance overall going from onboard graphics to a graphics card. But there's really not any noticeable difference in overall performance. But I'll continue to use this card since it doesn't seem to degrade what I already had before.

Cons: The biggest problem is these rebate offers from the manufacturers. I followed the instructions and sent everything as required on time. But I haven't heard anything from MSI since. This has happened to me more than once with other manufacturers as well. If they're going to offer a manufacturer's rebate, honor them. Otherwise don't offer them at all. And quit putting the blame on the post office for lost mail.

Other Thoughts: Nearly 2 years later and still waiting for the manufacturer (MSI) to honor their rebate.
Newegg should put more pressure on these companies who don't follow through.
This isn't an isolated incident. And I see in the reviews where others have the same problem

2 out of 5 eggsExpected better from MSI...

Pros: It worked right off the bat in various Ubuntu and Debian Linuxes. Fixed a number of desktop graphics anomolies that I had using an old AMD RV300 card. Accelerated 720p video nicely on my ASUS 24" 16:9 display (1920 x 1080). I was elated!

Cons: Then, after a number of weeks, something happened! Whenver I attempted to view full-screen video, at any resolution, the video was super slow. I realize that this is a fairly basic graphics card, but 2D acceleration radically changed for the worse. I never even attempted any games or 3D applications.

Other Thoughts: I kind of wonder if the card I received is just a lemon (??). For desktop use, it works fine. But now, there is no way I can watch a DVD full-screen or any form of full-screen streaming. The card ought to be capable of that and indeed was for several weeks. My mom's old Dell 620 SFF with the integrated graphics proved to accelerate the identical full screen 2D program material without a tear or glitch. What the heck MSI???

If you are looking for a basic card for HTPC or desktop work, you might want to look elsewhere. Sorry MSI, I really hate to say it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear A.T,
Thank you for the feedback. Have you try remove and update the video driver and retest? Also check the display cables. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the product, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.

Thanks for choosing MSI

Best Regards,

4 out of 5 eggsShort VGA ribbon cable

Pros: Great price, easy install, low power

Cons: Short VGA ribbon cable

Other Thoughts: If your case/mother board is not setup to have the riser VGA slot on top of the video card, you will have issues with the low profile adapter. I was able to fit it the other direction, but it's putting a lot of stress on the cable. An extra 1/2 inch would have been perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: Buy with confidence. I have used this card for 18+ months without any issue. The Catalyst control center has more features than most will use. It has features to overclock and provides excellent performance for the price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great way to improve the performance of an older box.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Low profile and includes bracket
low power requirements for non-gaming
dual-monitor support
fast desktop/Aero performance

Cons: none, for its intended purpose

Other Thoughts: This is a low-end, inexpensive graphics card. It won't play games well, but it will do about as well as Intel HD graphics for desktop and Aero effects. It has both VGA and DVI ports, and comes with a low profile bracket to fit into a low profile PC. This is perfect for older HP and Dell small form factor PCs that have really slow Intel Q35 or GMA built-in graphics. It will really speed up desktop performance on these and allow dual monitor use. Works fine with 200 watt PSUs as long as you don't try to run 3D accelerated games.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI R5450-MD1GD3H/LP

Pros: Low profile! Revamping an old HP desktop & need a new video card that fit the case. Installed easily. Very capable for price, a good value.

Cons: I had trouble with the old linux drivers. I had to install it before upgrading the OS, but it still got the job done. I'm not going to ding the card an egg for me not having the latest drivers installed.

Other Thoughts: Works with Linux Mint 17.1 just fine! I needed a real overhaul on the old machine & this was just the ticket for the video. The older linux drivers were not a friendly for me, so linux buyers beware! Otherwise a solid card & good value for the money.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Card but annoying MSI

Pros: no fans, cheap and it works well

Cons: Rebate center from MSI were not so friendly and didn't issue the rebate but then it was still cheap without the rebate

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to improve upon rebate stuff like some stores I visit they have special receipts just for that

4 out of 5 eggs*won't* *quite* *fit*

Pros: Can now play the games I bought from GOG that require a separate graphics card
Small form factor
compatible (nearly the only card that would've worked in my computer)

Cons: The cable to attach the vga connector to the second bracket, when using the small form factor brackets, was not nearly long enough. Maybe it's intended that the second bracket go above the card; unfortunately my computer (a Dell SFF optiplex 755) doesn't have a second bracket above the PCI express slot. I could still reach a VGA cable through the other hole, but it looks kindy dorky and jerry-rigged.
