5 out of 5 eggsMSI AMD quality

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: cost, size, fan, speed, quality, DVI and HDMI

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I didn't need a super powerful graphics card, but wanted something that was decent. The 1GB of RAM is plenty for editing pictures as my customer will be doing. It also is nice that it's 2.1, and it works great. The software took an update right after install, and it is performing as expected. The 3D rating in Windows 7 was only 4.6 but the other graphics rating was like 5.9. Not the greatest if you are wanting to game, but for what my customer needs it for he will love it. I like the fan and heat sink, and it has both MSI quality and AMD quality built into it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: I'll start from the beginning...I had this card stored away for at least 1.5 years. Originally bought for our old Win XP Pro computer we now no longer have.

The CPU on our newer home built computer is the i5 4440 -3.1 to 3.3 GHz. For months I was just using the Intel 4600 graphics built into the chip.

My wife loves her SIMS 3 games and has almost every game made. She began complaining about some mild occasional lagging when playing her SIMS 3 games. I pulled up a chair next to her while she was playing and sure nuff, I too seen some lagging.

Since I had the MSI card I decided, why not give it a try and see what happens.

I installed the MSI card, went to the BIOS on our Intel DH87MC mobo, made the switch, booted it up and let my wife have at it.

I was surprised. I really didn't think it would do any better than the 4600 Intel graphics, but it did. All the lagging has ceased.

That was approximately 6 to 7 months ago and nothing has changed. It's still remains superior to the Intel 4600 HD graphics, at least for playing the SIMS 3 games.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Have to give credit to MSI. Since the day I installed this card, I've had at least 3 driver updates notices from the supplied MSI Afterburner software. I did the updates each time and this card keeps working very well. MSI does keep you current with the latest drivers.

I CAN'T give any truthful comments as to how it would do with other games, but for SIMS 3, it is superior to the Intel 4600 Graphics.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter than the mobo video

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: A well made card with many extras, this card impressed me most with things I have not seen in a long time. Every port (VGA, HDMI and DVI) as well as the PCI-X slot came with a protective cover installed. The fan on the card is (for now) very quiet.

Cons: My main goals in buying the card were to improve the performance of Movies and DVDs and to increase performance on the computer in the Windows Experience report. Gaming Graphics went way up, but Graphices (Aero) actually went down from 4.9 to 4.7.... What the hell????

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for, but it's still a good deal I suppose.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it should do.

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: I've had no issues with this card and have been happy to have it.

Cons: It's performance is lacking in many games, but this is to be expected. That is not this cards function. It works well for normal usage and watching videos.

1 out of 5 eggsupdate to DONT BUY

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: None i see it just didn't fit my set up, if your cable or adaptor is dvi-d like the other guy said and doesn't have the analog pins then this card will work, but all my cables have the analog pins, which I won't alter

Cons: still a 1 egg

Other Thoughts: Thank you manufacture support for your comments, however, my thought to you would be why not use a connector whether you connect the analog pins or not, at least have the holes there so people can use your adapter either way.

1 out of 5 eggsHDMI port went bad after 6 months

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: VGA still works after 6 months.

Cons: HDMI port went bad after 6 months.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure why but this is the 2nd Radeon card where the HDMI port goes bad at the 6 month mark. I have an HDMI cable plugged from my card into my TV. I did use it almost daily and the VGA ports on both of my cards are fine.

The first one I purchased was from Tiger Direct an XFX Radeon 5450 (XFX Radeon HD 5450 HD545XZQHV Video Card - 1GB, DDR3, PCI-Express 2.1, 1x Dual-link DVI-I, 1x VGA, 1x HDMI, DirectX 11, Heatsink, Low Profile).

I'm going to try another brand of card.

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T BUY

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: NONE

Cons: The DVI port is missing 4 holes around the slot pin, I couldn't even plug my DVI cable in and if you look on the pin side there should be all 5 pins connected, but there are none on this card.

Other Thoughts: MSI has dissapointed me for first time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R6450MD1GD3LP.html#hero-overview
DVI port is DVI-D as specified in the spec.
- DVI-D x 1
- D-Sub x 1
- HDMI x 1
The four pin you are talking about on your DVI-I cable are intended for analog signal which isn't supported by DVI-D due to its pure digital signal output.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC card

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: Cool
Quiet
Quick

I use this for an HTPC with light linux gaming. It maxes out X3 at 720p (which is no real feat) and plays 720P video on silverlight and flash. Also plays DVD's with a good tear-free quality. If I wanted to support Sony and buy Blu-Ray, I believe this card would play it without a hitch.

HDMI audio works fine.

Cons: AMD linux drivers. They really need to work on them. Every few times I boot it comes up all fuzzy which is corrected by changing the resolution and changing it back. I have tried every driver package currently available with no luck.

MSI Afterburner not available for linux.

DVI is DVI-D only. This means that it only puts out a digital signal. Many of these cards come with a DVI-I which has pins for digital and analog. Do not purchase and try to use a DVI-A/DVI-I to VGA adapter for a dual VGA set-up. The adapter will not fit.

Other Thoughts: I only use the HDMI, so I can't comment on the signal quality of the DVI or VGA connections.

Using Xubuntu.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: Price. Compact.
I purchased this to upgrade the video card in my Shuttle HTPC that wasn't acting nicely with an upgrade to Win 8.
I didn't need a "gamer" card, just one that was compact enough for my case, displayed Blu-ray well through a HDMI connection, and maybe able to play a few games as well. Worked well out of the box, and I'm quite happy with it. Good budget card.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This was not purchased for my main machine, where most of my gaming is done....so I can't elaborate on how well it will do with new or semi recent games. GREAT VALUE.

3 out of 5 eggsUseless for gaming

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 R6450-MD1GD3/LP 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: Cheap
worked well
quiet
low profile

Cons: Here we go,
nearly useless for gaming and virtually impossible to play anything thats even semi new anything that is new has to be toned so far down to make the game playable its not even fun looking at the screen

Other Thoughts: Ok so if your looking to get into gaming i would strongly and i mean STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU PASS
the only reason i have this card to begin with was at the time i was on a extreme budget build and im planning on upgrading to a new better GPU in oh say 8 days 1 hour and 35 minutes but hey whos counting right????? seriously though if your building a gaming rig remember a huge part of it is in the gpu not the cpu an intel i3 is still capable of running games as long as you have a kick booty card in there i have a fantastic custom pc aside from this dated card so if your planning on gaming on anything past minecraft then keep looking.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

This product is an entry-level graphics card for basic display purposes, nothing fancy, see below URL for its benchmark score compared to typical gaming cards.
