For extreme overclocking enthusiasts, the MSI Lightning series has always been the graphics card to die for. The N580GTX Lighting Xtreme Edition not only comes with a massive 3GB of GDDR5 graphics memory, but also incorporates Propeller Blade fans featuring two new technologies (Smart Temp Sensor and Dust Removal) and Twin Frozr III cooling. This FANtastic graphics card also supports Afterburner's latest Triple Temp Monitor technology - not to mention the Triple Overvoltage support and top Military Class II components. Unique to the Lightning series, the N580GTX Lighting Xtreme Edition's combination of Power4 Architecture and extreme overclocking design elements leave it the undisputed king of single-GPU graphics cards!

  • newegg Revolutionary Fan Design with Dust Removal & Smart Temp Sensor Dust Removal: When the system is turned on, the graphics card fans will rotate in the opposite direction for 30 seconds. By running in reverse, the fan helps to remove dust from the heatsink fins to ensure optimal cooling every time. Smart Temp Sensor: the color of the fan blades dynamically change from blue to white when ambient air temperatures are above 45 degrees to signal high operating conditions.
  • newegg Triple Temp Monitor Triple Temp Monitor for GPU/Memory/MOSFET is the latest feature added to MSI's proprietary Afterburner overclocking utility. With temperature sensor chips used on these crucial areas of the graphics card, Afterburner's monitoring window can display the GPU, memory, and power supply module temperatures in real-time. This not only enables the user to monitor the graphics card's operation, but also to check system temperatures in order to make improvements to the system's overall cooling strategy for smoother operation.
  • newegg MSI Power4 Architecture for Overclocking Stability The N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition inherits the impressive Power4 architecture from previous Lightning series cards along with improved components and design in four areas. Besides the 16 phase PWM design, the PWM module is twice as large as before and provides double the amount of current to the GPU. Memory has its own independent power supply using an 8-pin connector for minimum interference to greatly increase overclocking potential. The next-generation Proadlizer capacitor (*4) increases signal stability by leaps and bounds while CopperMOS, with 2x high current capacity, provides the GPU with a large and stable power supply. Combined, these features provide extreme overclocking enthusiasts with a more stable operating environment and the best performance out there.
  • newegg Twin Frozr III and Propeller Blade Technology for Supreme Cooling The all new Twin Frozr III cooling design utilizes the innovative Propeller Blade technology to create 20% more airflow compared to conventional fan blades. The airflow also covers a large surface to remove heat quickly and effectively, and coupled with nickel-plated copper base, twin 9cm PWM fans, SuperPipe technology, and the form-in-one heatsink, the result is 21°C cooler and 5.5dB quieter than the reference design under full loads.
  • newegg Extreme Overclocking Functions For hardware enthusiasts, the MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition comes with exclusive extreme overclocking features. Apart from V-Check Points and V-Switch for monitoring and adjusting the GPU/Memory/PLL(VDDCI) voltages in real time, Dual Bios and XtremeCool switches help to effectively prevent potential problems stemming from liquid nitrogen cooling. PWM Clock Tuner also helps to increase overclocking potential. All these functions come together to make the N580GTX Lightning the ultimate graphics card for extreme overclocking.
  • newegg Top Quality Military Class II Components & LPL (Lightning Power Layer) The MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition uses top-quality Military Class II components including All Solid Cap for overclocking and full-speed operation, SFC for 10% higher efficiency, and 30% increase in maximum current, as well as Hi-c Cap with Tantalum core which boasts 8 times the lifetime of conventional solid capacitors. These high-quality components not only increase the graphics cards' overall service life but also enhance GPU stability. Independent circuit design for GPU, memory and power layer decreases noise between different signals to ensure extreme power stability.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat card

Pros: use this in a video editing tower with CS5 - got because of the compatibility. Video renders pretty well - still not as fast as I'd like to see. Great with games.

Cons: slow rendering HD vid.

5 out of 5 eggsALL SOLD OUT

Pros: The best air cooled card to date.

Cons: You cannot find these cards anywhere.

Other Thoughts: We we're told that these were "limited edition" and I guess they are. Can't purchase this card anywhere. I got one, but was hoping to get another to SLI.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the money if you can get a hold of them.

Pros: Overclocks like a champ
Great construction and durability
Blue leds on the fan look really cool
Cooler keeps cards well below what other 580's do (on air)

Cons: Cant really think of them. Some people dont like that there are no water blocks made for these cards, but I dont use water cooling so not a big deal. Although, that would make them extremely potent beasts

Other Thoughts: My system:
2600k at 4.5ghz
8gb gskill sniper 1600 (o.c. to 1866)
Asus p8z68 deluxe gen 3
750w corsair hx750
crucial m4
obsidian 800d case
LXtremes in SLI
Dont let people fool you. On this rig, I run these two cards with cpu and gpu overclocks on a 750w psu. On full use I never barely touch 700w at the socket. Currently overclocked at +68m.v. on both cards with 915 core. In SLI, you will have to use more voltage to get the same overclock as one card to be stable. Take one card out though, and much less voltage is required. On this rig, my unigine 2.5 score is 2600, 3dm11 is P12915, and 3DM Vantage is 51832 (gpu score 46464). I went from a 5870 to 2 gtx570's, but was very dissapointed with the vram. I found a deal on these, snagged it, and its a crazy improvement. 3gb of vram is a must for bf3 and I would say for most games to come. You cant go wrong with this card.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Amazing

Pros: This card is absolutely amazing. I have two of them hooked up in SLI right now and overclocked. The core clock is 940mhz and the effective memory clock is set at 4400mhz. These cards together in SLI can play any game on the market without dipping below 60FPS. You could really play any game on the market with just one of these cards, but I decided to get two just to be more future proof and also to have a constant 60 or more FPS.

Cons: I can't flash the bios to overclock them further for some reason (even though that's completely unnecessary).

Other Thoughts: Build Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K @4.8Ghz
MOBO: MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3)
RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 8GB @1600mhz 7-8-7-24
GPU: 2x MSI Lightning Xtreme GTX 580's in SLI
Sound Card: ASUS Xonar Essence STX
SSD: 240GB Patriot Wildfire
HDD: 2x 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blacks in RAID 0
ODD: LG Blu-Ray Drive
PSU: Corsair AX1200
Case: Cooler Master HAF X
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 (push/pull)
IR Receiver: Antec Veris Multimedia Station Premier
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Monitor: Acer P243W (1920x1200)

4 out of 5 eggsExceptionally Jaded

Pros: On paper this card is exceptional. Pulls way ahead of the pack and delivers time and time again on benchmarks done by many of the major reviewers out there.

Cons: #1- Arrived DOA
#2- Arrived as a USED part.
#3- Two LGA 2011 boards and 1 1155 board threw errors with this card plugged in.

Other Thoughts: I am deeply disappointed with Newegg on this one. Firstly, as another reviewer mentioned, the box arrived with worn and bent corners on the fold out leaf. There was no plastic wrap on the heat sink. The heat sink bezel had screwdriver scratches on it (matte black originally with silver scratches through the paint). Manuals had fingerprints on them.

Exceptionally jaded with receiving used merchandise. I am not used to this level of service from what I have viewed as an exceptional company in the past. The customer service remains excellent, I just hope that the back office / warehouse is not slipping. These types of mistakes are simply unacceptable. After purchasing one of the most expensive cards, this was very unexpected.

Needless to say, I'll be requesting an RMA. Hopefully they don't send me another used card.

5 out of 5 eggsLightning XE

Pros: Absolutely amazing! This is both the fastest and yet coolest running videocards I own. I have a pair, now, in SLi.
I bought one to try out and when I went back they were all gone. Luckily a couple of weeks ago the Egg had them again and I snatched another one immediately.

Cons: NON-Reference pcb. No watercooling for these bad boys. Too bad since they are capable of extreme OCing. I guess that will be strictly for the Dry Ice and Nitrogen people. I can buy the pots but can't find the dry ice or liquid nitrogen in any readily available quantity.

Other Thoughts: If you get the chance, buy one or more of these. No other GTX580 can come close to the capabilities of this super high-quality.
Make sure it will fit your case! Not just the length. Check the heighth you have between the videocard slots and the side of your case. It will NOT fit in a CoolerMaster HAF-X without removing the fan shroud completely from the inside of the side panel. The card is almost half an inch too tall for this case without slightly modding it.

5 out of 5 eggsFastest Single GTX580 card on the planet

Pros: Biggest, baddest single GTX580 graphic card there is. Very easy to overclock with little increase in temperture. Super good cooling system. Great looking card. Blue LED's in fans.

Cons: Card is large. May not fit in mid-tower cases.

Other Thoughts: Who needs water cooling with this baby available.
These sell out quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Card

Pros: Quiet

I just bought two of these cards for my first self built computer. I couldnt be happier with, they run flawlessly. I have them in SLI unfortunately not using them with 3 Screen Surround. They devour any game thrown at them, i can play BF3 for hours with them not even going over 60 celsius. Very happy with this purchase

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you plan on getting two of these make sure your mobo has at least 3 slots for GPU's so you can separate these by one slot to keep heat down to a minimum.

NZXT Phantom case
i7 2600k
AsRock Gen 7 Extreme 3 MOBO
1000W PSU
16GB of G.SKILL X Series Ram
