The MSI R7870 Hawk is equipped with AMD's 28nm Radeon HD 7870 GHz edition GPU. MSI introduce the flagship design concept of Lightning series into R7870 Hawk, adopting Unlocked Digital Power that incorporates an Unlocked BIOS, Digital PWM Controller, and Enhanced Power Design to boost overclocking potential and make overclocking easier than ever. With the industry first "GPU Reactor" power panel, it reduces power supply noise as well as increases overclocking stability. As for thermal solution, MSI R7870 Hawk utilizes the latest Twin Frozr IV Thermal Design with Dust Removal Technology. The dual 8cm fans with Propeller Blade Technology generate massive airflow for fast heat dissipation while remaining whisper silent. The two form-in-one heatsinks improve cooling for memory and the power module as well ensure structural integrity. The R7870 Hawk uses Military Class III components which have passed rigorous third-party testing to meet MIL-STD-810G standards, guaranteeing the card's stability and reliability under actual use conditions. Moreover, the "3X3 OC Kits" are designed to simplify overclocking, which makes it easier for users to fine-tune their graphics cards. Competing with flagship design of Lightning series, R7870 Hawk absolutely stands out on top among the industry's HD 7870 GHz edition based graphics cards.

  • newegg Unlocked Digital Power Releases Overall Overclocking Potential MSI exclusive Unlocked Digital Power is composed of the Unlocked BIOS, Digital PWM Controller, and Enhanced Power Design. Unlocked BIOS enables to increase PowerTune limit by 57% as well as relax CCC and OCP limits to completely unleash the graphics card's overclocking potential. The Digital PWM Controller provides more stable and accurate voltage signals than analog designs, meaning the voltage can be adjusted more quickly and precisely during overclocking. Enhanced Power Design provides more power than reference design. Equipped with Unlocked Digital Power, R7870 Hawk is the best weapon for gamers.
  • newegg GPU Reactor Create the Ultimate Power Core The MSI R7870 Hawk implements the innovative "GPU Reactor" power panel which, when installed on the back of the GPU, increases 5 times current volume, reduces power supply noise by 20%, and improves overall overclocking stability. MSI GPU Reactor is easy to install and has built in safety features that make it easy even for ordinary users to install and remove.
  • newegg Extreme Cooling Design for Better Cooling and Structural Strength The MSI R7870 Hawk incorporates the next-generation Twin Frozr IV Thermal Design. The striking design of the new Twin Frozr IV comes from the two 8cm PWM fans with Propeller Blade Technology and two 8mm SuperPipes to enhance the effect of heat dissipation. MSI has also incorporated its exclusive Dust Removal Technology. Fans are running in reverse for 30 seconds after booting to remove dust from heatsinks and keep the graphics card's cooling performance running at optimum levels. The R7870 Hawk also boasts two form-in-one heat sinks. One heatsink is located on the front of the graphics card to cool the memory and power modules, while another heatsink on the back of the card helps to protect and reinforce the card structure. The best thermal design on R7870 Hawk delivers 15?cooler and 5.7dB quieter than reference design.
  • newegg Premium Materials and User-friendly Overclocking Design The R7870 Hawk was equipped with Military Class III components certified to MIL-STD-810G military standards in seven different categories by a third-party laboratory. The tantalum-core Hi-c CAP around GPU, the CopperMOS cooling design, the form-in-one Golden SSC, and the rust-proof Dark Solid CAP, all work together to deliver the MSI R7870 Hawk with the best possible stability. The 3X3 OC Kits are designed for overclockers: V-Check Points enable to monitor GPU, Memory and VDDCI voltage by multi-meter while Triple Overvoltage and Triple Temp Monitor allow overclockers to quickly fine-tune and track the condition of graphics cards by MSI Afterburner.
  • newegg New GCN Architecture for leading DirectX 11.1 Performance The AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz edition GPU is based on the revolutionary 28nm GCN with up to 20 Compute Units for up to 1280 Stream Processors, 80 Texture Units, 128 Z/Stencil ROP Units, 32 Color ROP Units, dual geometry engines and dual synchronous compute engines. 5 out of 5 eggsLove It

Pros: 1. Easy to overclock
2. Looks sexy
3. Runs pretty much everything on Highest Settings (So Far)

Cons: It wasn't as good as I though, as in the fps wise in games like bf3. Avg about 40-80 fps untill I overclocked it

Other Thoughts: I overclocked it quite a bit but once I have there was a major performance boost. In Bf3 I gained 20 fps boost and with other games about a 5-15 fps boost.

Voltage: 1250
Core Clock: 1200
Memory Clock: 1400

System:
FX - 6100 @4.5Ghz

5 out of 5 eggsMSI Hawk Radeon HD7870

Pros: 1. Performance- I have run this card with Crysis 1 & 2, Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider & Borderlands at max detail, 1920 x 1080 with awesome performance. 2. Looks- metal shroud & backplate ooze quality. 3. Sound (or lack thereof!) even when pushing this card hard, the fans are quiet.

Cons: Minor nitpicks: The GPU reactor looks cool, but almost makes this a 3 slot card. If I want to use my x1 slot, I will have to remove it. Fans are noisy until the drivers are loaded. So they run at full speed when in the EFI settings.

Other Thoughts: This is the 3rd MSI video card I have owned. All of them Twin Frozr models. They have ALL been awesome! Powerful, well built & quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card But.....

Pros: Runs almost every game at max at at least 30 fps. Sniper: Ghost warrior 2 runs at max 1080p at over 100fps all the time. Runs incredibly cool under full load (30-50 degrees).
If aesthetics are your thing, this will not disappoint!

Cons: I don't know if this is really a con but it was advertised that I'd get a game coupon but I did not.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's FAST>>>>>>>>

Pros: Afterburner software is good. Overclockable. Runs Tomb Raider 2013 at MAX settings Flawlessly. Runs Direct X 11 Games VERY FAST!Exceeds in 3D. average temp 28c Max temp 55c.

Cons: 2D preformance is lacking. Must overclock this card to get any kind of FPS. Stock benchmarked at 56FPS, Overclocked just alittle to 1175 and 1300mhz, I get 105FPS in kombuster.

Other Thoughts: This card is runs great. Graphics are awesome! Dead Space 2 crashed but I've read it's a DS2 problem with high end cards and The Sims 3 is choppy, which Ive also read is a game problem. Just throwing that in as an FYI if your also experiencing these issues.

5 out of 5 eggsPhenomenal Card!!!!! Awesome Performance!

Pros: First of all, to start off this review I'd like to state that I am & have been an Intel/Nvidia die-hard fan for the past 7-8 years. Before I chose to get this card I did extensive benchmark research on the 7870 gpu verses other similar cards like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 660/660ti, GTX 480, GTX 570, and even the more expensive & much higher performing GTX 670. This card's gpu (MSI aside) gives me way more "bang-for-my-buck" than any of the Nvidia alternatives - that's why I chose it as a replacement for my dual-SLI EVGA GTX 460's. Eventually I want to go 2x or 3x MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Editions on a brand new build, but this is good enough for now.

Secondly, I have always loved MSI's air cooling systems on their graphics card - especially the TwinFrozr line. And the included TwinFrozr IV cooling system here is no exception. I get 22-24 degrees C on idle & with all the stress testing, extensive benchmarking, and gaming I've done on it already - I haven't gone above 52 degrees C (48 is average for gaming). Most cards start crashing, blacking out, & BSOD'ing in the low 80's C. Borderlands 1 & 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, BF3, CS:GO, ME3, The Witcher 1 & 2, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, & Diablo 3 are all among those tested since I got it. And all games run smooth at 45fps or better (60+ for most) @ 1920x1080 with almost everything maxed - fyi, I hate enabling Depth of Field. The dust-prevention/dust-removal system on the TwinFrozr line works phenomenal as well :)

Lastly, I've always love MSI's Afterburner utility - even on my 3 different EVGA cards I've owned. Works flawless with a card that's actually made for it! XD

Awesome price for the performance you get! ;)

Came with 2 free Steam-based games that haven't been released yet: BioShock Infinite & Tomb Raider

Cons: Not many people have mobos that can fully utilize PCI-Express 3.0 x16 yet :S

Long card... Fullatx case is highly recommended

Other than that, NONE! :)

Other Thoughts: Put this card on a bit of an older rig w/ the following hardware:
~ Intel Core2 Quad - Q9450 (2.66GHz, OC'd to 3.8GHz)
~ Asus P5N-D mobo w/ Nvidia nForce 750i chipset
~ 8Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
~ 4Tb of Seagate HDD space
~ ABS 700w modular gaming psu

Have an Intel Core i7-3770k/Asus Maximus V Extreme system too, but that's primarily for extreme overclocking atm

3 out of 5 eggsGood Card, Bad Luck

Pros: This card tend to stay pretty cool. At stock clocks it runs games well. Though not as well as I would hope. Looks nice.

Cons: Literally doesn't overclock at all. If I try to push it above stock clocks at all, no matter what voltage, it crashes during any game I play. So far it seems to get pretty inconsistent frame rate. Jumping from 60+ down to 15 quite often. Also a couple of time while at idle, my pc lost video and the fans stopped. I know it wasn't hibernate or anything like that because I have my pc set to never turn off.

Other Thoughts: I wish the leds were red. I have a red them on my pc and the color of the card just throws it off. but I can deal with that.
