Based on the fast and power-efficient NVIDIA Kepler architecture, the MSI N640GT-MD1GD3 delivers game-changing performance for strikingly beautiful graphics and realistic environmental interaction. When used with MSI’s Afterburner overclocking software, the MSI N640GT-MD1GD3 supports GPU overvoltage function to fully unleash the overclocking potential. And with an assortment of NVIDIA display technology such as NVIDIA Surround and 3D Vision, you'll find more than one way to elevate your experience.

  • newegg MSI Afterburner overclocking utility Co-developed by MSI and Rivatuner, MSI graphics card utility “Afterburner” allows you to adjust the fan speed, adjust GPU & memory clocking speeds in real time, and tune the voltage of the GPU to completely unleash its power. A real-time monitoring interface and burn-in stability test give gamers the power to control the card's overclocking status at any time. MSI Afterburner also supports wireless control by Android and iOS handheld devices and built-in DX 11 effects test. Afterburner is a completely free utility which is compatible with almost all MSI graphics cards.
  • newegg All Solid Capacitors The MSI Graphic Card uses high quality solid capacitors for lower temperatures, higher efficiency, and up to 10 years of performance. The aluminum core eliminates potential malfunctions. For the gamers and high-end users, this feature not only means better quality components within, but also much stronger support while you engage in hard-core tuning.
  • newegg Propeller Blade Technology The exclusive Propeller Blade technology features unique air channels on the fan edges to boost cooling performance by increasing the cooling area and providing 20% more air flow compared to conventional fans.
  • newegg Kepler GPU Architecture NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.
  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround with Up To Four Monitors Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages human peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators. Add in a fourth display to keep tabs on chat, email, or web while you are gaming.

Pros: Nice graphics for games. It is quiet and cooler then my old one.

Cons: I will be replacing this card. This card has recently stoped allowing for dual monitoring. I plug in my other one and whole card stops working. This is NOT and driver or programing issue. If you not wanting to deal with this issue do not get this card.

Other Thoughts: To make it so one screen worked after they both shut off I had to re-install and juggle that card between graphic slots.

Pros: Good value.
Decent performance for a budget card.
Low power usage
Quiet

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Currently using it to prototype CUDA code on Kepler architecture. It gets about 1/2 the performance of a GTX 460 (Fermi). Don't be mislead by the number of CUDA cores. Starting with Kepler they use less powerful cores but more of them.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's not horrible

Pros: Decent card if you don't have a power supply that can comfortably power a gaming card. Pretty quiet.

Cons: Definitely not a card for people expecting games to be silky smooth 60fps on ultra/high/medium/low settings =/ The free game included (Duke Nukem Forever at the time of purchase) makes me sad.

Other Thoughts: Darksiders 2 low shadows/aa usually gets 30-50 fps, 50-60 fps indoors, 47-48 degrees (idle is about 28 degrees) Celsius after 30 minutes of playing. Dalaran in 3.3.5a with a mix of highs and lows gets between 25-30 fps, usually 50-60 fps elsewhere. Torchlight 2 gets around 30 fps during single player battles. MSI Afterburner has an option to force constant voltage, Windows has a power saving option for pci express, not sure if those affect performance. I have an AMD A4-3400 CPU (2.7ghz dual core), games tested with a 720p resolution, 8gb ram, win 8, with nvidia image settings to quality.

2 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected

Pros: It allows the option for dual screens, which is the reason I had purchased this video card to begin with. Recently it started acting up where only one screen will come on and the other screen literally takes 2 1/2 minutes to come on, that is if it comes on at all.

Cons: It does not work, all I want is the ability to have two screens and this video card has the option but not the ability. At first it worked like it should, but now it is not. It takes one screen over 2 mins to kick on. Plan to call to see if I can return it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
This products supports dual display, besides it had worked before therefore it was most likely a setting issue.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Linux based HTPC

Pros: Small and quiet, relatively easy to configure, HDMI sound and HDCP connection and EDID reporting very reliable. Runs 1080p video/5.1 audio without a hitch even under load.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Wish it were passive and maybe a little cheaper. Thank you Nvidia for providing decent drivers. Note this does NOT work in parallel with the IGPU on Z77 boards at least under Linux- not a big con for me but my previous 9400GT alllowed this, for some reason this card causes a conflict and demands to be used exclusively- no idea why.

3 out of 5 eggsBandwidth starved, but acceptable performance in spite of it

Pros: Reasonable value for the money; not much point buying a cheaper card with even worse performance. Gets ~8700 PPD in Folding@home (stock clocks)

Cons: Memory clock of card I received is 667 MHz (1333 effective) DDR3, this is 25% slower than the GT 640 reference design, making the bandwidth-limited situation even worse!

Other Thoughts: Hopefully I get the rebate. Also hoping I can bump the RAM to at least get closer to reference speeds...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the money

Pros: quiet
stable
easy to overclock
powerful for the money

Cons: small cooler
get pretty hot

Other Thoughts: I bought this card for my machine at work and after removing the old amd drivers and installing the newest nvidia drivers this card was solid as a rock. It is easy to overclock but i wouldnt recomend pushing it too far beacuse the cooler is small and it gets pretty hot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: With a generous rebate, this card can't be beat for a high perf HTPC. MadVR, HD Audio, and the drivers are perfect.

Power efficient without the need for additional PCI power.

Cons: A full retail, a little over priced.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent for the money

Pros: I am running this card in a PCIe 2.0 slot and it installed as expected. Had a $30 rebate at the time which attracted me to it, we shall see if it ever comes. There is no stuttering while playing high bitrate 1080p video. I have not tried any games on it, it was only meant to do light application on my server. I have been pleasantly surprised how well it does given the price point.

Worth noting is that this card is very short. If you have a small case this card is worth looking into. I have seen cards twice as long as this one.

Cons: For the price there is nothing wrong with this card. Do not expect to play MW3 on highest settings.

3 out of 5 eggsNot to bad

Pros: Not a bad card, got about 80-100fps on all games I play on mostly ultra settings.

Cons: Card had a defect when I got it. Had to send it back for a replacement.

Other Thoughts: Nice price for what it is. Also hope my new one isn't having the same problem.
