2 out of 5 eggsCard gets hot, failed after 3 months

Pros: I had this card running at pretty much stock settings. It ran great and preformed well, until it started to get hot.

Cons: It started to get somewhat hot (78-83c in an open-air case), after about a month I re-pasted it. I have done many re-paste jobs (my job was to fix computers and satellites in the marine corps, and I am an A+ certified tech) I used arctic silver, and it ran a good -3c cooler after I was done. It ran fine for a couple months. Now, however, under a load it crashes after about 30 seconds giving me a black screen. I can't get the card to run under a load at all. I'm very disappointed in the short life of this card.

Other Thoughts: I think it could've used a better fan, mine ran at 95-100% under load and it still got hot.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time and money

Pros: The rebate worked as advertised.

Cons: The first card they shipped me was a little flaky. After running a game for 10-15 minutes, it had weird speckly artifacts. I RMA'd that card, paid for return shipping, got another one. Just fired it up and it's pretty much DOA. Tons of artifacts, can't even get all the way to my desktop without my computer rebooting itself.

MSI will have to do something truly miraculous to redeem themselves in my eyes.

4 out of 5 eggsMSI HD-7950 Boost

Pros: Awesome Card, the most powerful I have ever owned...
Bought it at $180 before BitCoin/ LiteCoin/ Virtual currency got popular... Worth $400+ right now...

On stock cooling this card will hit 84c @ 60% (Regular game usage)... No joke...
At that temp it is loud, hot, and destructive...

So I took off the black shroud.
Temps improved because the exhaust was no longer trapped; but still it was still loud, hot, and destructive...

After looking around I bought a Artic Accelero 7970 cooler for it an man this card sings...
Temps never over 40c @ 60%

Cons: Stock cooling is horrid....
Not MSI's fault or Newegg's fault; Just poor reference design...
Sapphire, XFX, and MSI all use this card... Just with different stickers... Do not be deceived.

Other Thoughts: Five stars for performance and card....
Minus 1 egg for poor cooler design...

Love this card since I upgraded from a HD7770...
The power difference is massive and noticable...

BTW REMEMBER to check your wattage; this card blew up two 500w PSUs until I got a 850w for it... On stock settings...

2 out of 5 eggsNice card but.....

Pros: Plays most games without any issues.

Cons: Very Hot, have had to send mine off for a replacement in less than 4 months, it completely died.

Other Thoughts: I've been an nvidia guy for most of my life but figured I'd give AMD a shot, wish I had stuck with Nvidia! The card ran great for four months but then all the sudden just died. I'll review again once my replacement card arrives but for now I'd have to recommend staying away from this one.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE Horribile Rebate

Pros: This is an update to my earlier review about the horrible rebate service. I would like to say thanks to Newegg and MSI for contacting me personally and fixings the problem. The card runs flawlessly. I have never had a problem with it. The only problem was the rebate but that is fixed now. It can play any game on max settings at 1080p. No need to overclock yet but I have tested a few different settings and it seems to run quiet and cool.

Cons: NONE now.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for rendering and gaming and cost

Pros: Cost, # of stream processors, total power consumption. I use Luxrender with Blender and this has dramatically improved my rendering times. Playing ArmaIII with everything turned up except the view distance makes the game complete.

Cons: Heat dissipation. For the processing power they do not generate nearly as much heat as their brethren or competitors, but these particular models are very poor at getting rid of the heat. I have the case on it's side, cover off, and a giant box fan sitting on top of blowing in, no lie. With 50' dvi and usb cabling, the computer sits in the closet where I can't hear it ;)

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, can be loud and hot

Pros: cheap $180 for me ( all the other 7950's were around $270~330) works well, overclocks nicely. 1100 ghz easily achieved. can play all games on ultra @1080p

Cons: loud. whinny sound when the fan spins up. no vram cooling. gets pretty hot but not 290x hot.

Other Thoughts: pretty good card for the price. can't find anything better in value than this card.

3 out of 5 eggsNice card

Pros: *Nice looking card
*Plays BF4 High-Ultra settings 55-60 fps depending on enviroment, never drops below 50fps on 1920x1200 monitor.
*Bought onsale for 217 with 3 free games
*No real huge differnence between this card and my old 7970ghz edition.(In games that is , benchmarks maybe but those are for people who like numbers, which who cares?)

Cons: *The fan leaves a LOT to be desired, moves hardly no air at all, I am probably going to go with an after market 2 fan cooler, the one on the card needs to be run at atleast 70% to keep the card under 55c under game load.

Other Thoughts: This card is decent or was decent for the money which was under 200 , now the cards at over 200 not even a month later? Crazy price change, also the card was suppose to have a $25 mail in rebate, when I sent the rebate info in to MSI they said it was turned in too late which I only had the card for a week and the rebate forms were mailed in that same week, and being the forms were turned in "late" MSI denied the mail in rebate and I did not qualify for the other mail in rebate because MSI already had my UPC off the box so I cant even reapply for the new rebate to even get $20. I emailed MSI and tried to reason with them and they told me the first one was late and without the UPC code they could not process a new one, but they already have my UPC code you think a legitimate company would go the extra mile and fix little issues like this, instead of just sticking it to their customers. So with that said I will no longer buy any MSI products nor will I recommend them to my friends. I have never had any issues with any other company like this and this really burns me. I cannot in good faith recommend this card to anyone after this scenario. I hope MSI reads these reviews, its little things like this that can make or break a company, anyone remember BFG graphics cards? Probably not cause they went bankrupt for issues such as this.

I gave this card 3 stars because its an ok card not great but decent for the money, BUT i deducted stars because of the hassle with MSI not because of newegg, newegg is awesome!

4 out of 5 eggsGood card for the money, fan is where it falls

Pros: Runs most games at maximum settings with pretty good AA. If you're looking for a card to last you through the next console generation, this is probably it. Even though you won't necessarily get max settings three years from now, you'll still be better off than console owners.

Cons: Fan is what makes this one cheaper. It's the stock fan and temperatures can get pretty high (a little above 90, even).
