ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked off the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design where others have to resort to less effective means.

The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large Aluminium fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition.

Futhermore, MSI provides all new Airflow Control technology on the Twin Frozr. This new thermal technology is leading airflow to heat pipes by special deflectors on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to heat pipes directly. In addition, this exclusive design is increasing the area of heatsink so that enhancing the efficiency of dissipation much more.

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking.

SOLID CAP

One with their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan.

SOLID CAP

Hi-C CAP

A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing around a CPU socket to install large coolers, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. Thanks to Hi-c CAP's, MSI mainboards are the most energy-efficient in the market.

Hi-C CAP

NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES

New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35-degree Celsius lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency and better overclocking power stability.

NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync (VSync)

NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync (VSync)

Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.

1 out of 5 eggsMSI Lightning and Fire

Pros: The card worked for about 10 months. It also ran pretty cool.

Cons: This card is the worst card I have ever owned.
My first card lasted me 10 months before it burned inside my computer. (no joke there was smoke coming out of the case when I opened it.

I sent the card in for an RMA, which was relatively fast, and got the replacement card on 10/29/2014.
On 2/5/2015 the card I got back from the RMA also burned.
This time there was not enough smoke to detect, so I went ahead and put it in another PC. When I turned the PC on the card shot sparks out about 3 inches.
(I am going to send this one in for an RMA too, but I don't think I want an MSI card in my PC and house anymore.)

This has to be the worst card ever made and is a fire hazard. If you plan on buying MSI I suggest you don't.

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers have had similar issues, so when MSI says this is not a known problem you can take what they say with a bucket of salt.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Graphics Card.

Pros: I have owned this card for almost a year now and it has not let me down. It performs well, and has been able to run any game I have thrown at it on Ultra. It is a good single card if you are running 1080p.

Cons: Price. Also, if you are looking to get into anything higher than 1080p gaming, you may want to look at the GTX 980 instead.

Other Thoughts: Overall great card. When I upgrade to 4K (when it is less expensive) I may consider getting another MSI graphics card (possibly two 980's to SLI).

4 out of 5 eggsMSI Gra

Pros: Runs almost all games on max setting, super silent sounds like a whisper when its set to either "overclock/gaming"

Cons: burned itself out in 9-10 months since receiving the card. I sent it to MSI who seemed to have given me a new card but with no explanation of what went wrong with it. MSI said it would take 5-15 business days to replace the board.

Other Thoughts: Best card on market for the dollar amount. Downside is you will burn it out eventually. Just read the other reviews.

At this time I am unaware if MSI warranty replacement cards. I have 2 emails into them & a phone call. If I get a reply i will try & update this review.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer beware, this card can be faulty

Pros: Good graphics and overall solid performance

Cons: Card literally caught on fire after about 1 year of use without overclocking.

Other Thoughts: Be seriously careful about buying this card as it seems to have questionable reliability (apparently I am not alone in this issue).

5 out of 5 eggsReally Love This Card

Pros: •Great overclocking (got it up to 1167 mhz core, and added 200mhz to vram)

•Cools really well despite my overclocking. With my fan profile never going past 80%, I never go hotter than 76 Celsius, even after hours of playing BF4.

•Great performance. With my single card, I never go below 60 fps on most games at ultra (Arma 3 and Crysis 3 are the exceptions). Overclocking is a dream, and I think it gave me a 30 fps boost in games like Battlefield 4. This card is great for 144hz gaming at ultra. (Before the recent BF4 patch, I would average anywhere from 90-120 fps depending on the map, but now I get anywhere from 120 to 150...I do experience frame drops to 70 near smoke effects now for some reason).

Cons: For a month I used to get an issue where my system would lag out and then freeze. It would happen every couple of days where suddenly the mouse would jump all over the screen and then eventually stop. Only way to get out of it was to press the restart button on the case (power button wouldn't work for some reason).

I think it was a driver issue, because I haven't had that problem in a long time.

Other Thoughts: This is a really good card. The price may or may not be worth it currently since the new generation is out, but I have had a great experience with this gpu. I plan on using it for at least a couple more years.

3 out of 5 eggsLoyal MSI customer but....

Pros: Great card at 1920x1080 this card will run almost any thing. I ordered 3 of them for an sli/surround display set up and its beautiful and runs all games except for metro last light on ultra at a res of 5760x1080(dosent really surprise me) tomb raider runs flawlessly at this res but the cards will get hot especially in a 3 way sli.

Cons: to the cons.... this is really sad because ive always bought msi video cards for their construction and stability but when installing my video card i watched what i believe to be a transistor(c673) fall off the card its a bit smaller than a pencil tip. with that being said i hope this will not curb your opinion to much on msi because im sure ill be able to rma this with them.

Other Thoughts: great cards great company but some minor issues

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Powerful card. Ran cool and quiet.

Cons: Died after 10 months. System shut off. I smelled something burning. At least it didn't damage the board or psu. Looking forward to my refurb and crossing msi off my list.
