ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked off the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design where others have to resort to less effective means.

The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large Aluminium fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition.

Futhermore, MSI provides all new Airflow Control technology on the Twin Frozr. This new thermal technology is leading airflow to heat pipes by special deflectors on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to heat pipes directly. In addition, this exclusive design is increasing the area of heatsink so that enhancing the efficiency of dissipation much more.

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking.

SOLID CAP

One with their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan.

SOLID CAP

Hi-C CAP

A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing around a CPU socket to install large coolers, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. Thanks to Hi-c CAP's, MSI mainboards are the most energy-efficient in the market.

Hi-C CAP

NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES

New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35-degree Celsius lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency and better overclocking power stability.

And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel. The second mode, TXAA, is an in-game option that combines MSAA, temporal filtering, and post processing for even higher visual fidelity.

NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync (VSync)

NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync (VSync)

Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.

1 out of 5 eggsIf you want a paper weight, go ahead and buy.

Pros: - Looks cool
- Runs quiet and cool

Cons: - Will last ~a year
- Once replaced by RMA, it died upon first start up & now MSI won't return my emails.

Other Thoughts: Will not buy from MSI again & have advised all of my friends to do the same... Don't make the same mistake I did, buy from another manufacturer.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWas good while it lasted

Pros: Fast
Quiet
Easily overclocked

Cons: Failed!
Support website sucks! Only way to contact support is their poor site that up until recently wouldn't accept my support request.

Other Thoughts: Well, I finally was able to submit a warranty request - almost a year after the card failed on me :( I had all but given up on the card and MSI but on a whim I tried again tonight and the form actually submitted. We'll see if they stand behind their product as well as their horrible web site but I'm not holding my breath. If the card still was working and/or there was a way to reliably contact them for support I would give them five eggs - frustrated doesn't even begin to cover it. If they do come through I will be more than happy to update this review and restore the five eggs I would like to give them.

5 out of 5 eggsSee some negative posts that seem to be misleading

Pros: Great card if setup right with fan profiles!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I see a lot of bad reviews on this card when mine is in my sons pc after I upgraded to an R290x, a 980 and now a 980Ti. I just don't think they are real. The card still works flawlessly in my sons computer. It's at least 2 years old.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Failed card

Pros: Was good for 1 year and 10 months

Cons: Card just went kaput. Currently RMA. I have video cards in machines that are 5 to 10 years old still running. Seems MSI has an issue with parts if this many people are getting failed cards. Maybe there should be a lawsuit against their company for faulty products. I will be pushing for a different model card as I am not going through this non sense of getting back a defective product

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggs2nd RMA in 1 year

Pros: Able to run graphics at max settings for most games at no problem.

Cons: 2 RMA's in a year for a card burning out, running card at stock settings.

Other Thoughts: Can't recommend a card for it's price point having such an extreme failure rate. the 2nd card had problems from the get go with freezing issues likely due to overheating and after a month the card burned out (the smell is a giveaway).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you check following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly. If possible verify the power supply.

1 out of 5 eggsOn my 5th RMA

Pros: None at this point

Cons: As stated in my title I am on my 5th RMA. I literally stopped trying to use this card for a year because I was so frustrated. I have had the same symptoms others here report. Card burning up, Locking up in ever game. It's absurd that MSI has not issued a recall for these cards. I am never buying another MSI product. We'll see if they send me a card from a different line since this is obviously had issues from day one.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsToo hot to handle

Pros: Ran FFXIV, APB, Saints Row, etc with an average of 120fps+.

Cons: Noisy, this card is so loud. Like I can hear it on the other side of the house loud.
Hot, the card was exceptionally hot. Had a mid-tower before owning this and had to upgrade to a full size due to heat issues.
Lit itself on fire after a year or so of ownership. Literally. Never overclocked, and regularly dusted out the case. It was kind enough to take mobo and CPU fan with it.

Other Thoughts: The performance was certainly worth owning it, but it ended up lighting itself on fire. I would still recommend these cards to friends and family.

2 out of 5 eggscard burned up!

Pros: Great card. it was fast and stable...

until it burned up. but when it worked it was great. wich is why i gave it 2 stars

Cons: i had the card right over a year. then while browsing rededdit the darn thing started stinking like burnt plastic and shut off.

Other Thoughts: be nice if the card lasted more then a year for $500

1 out of 5 eggsMSI Lightning and Fire

Pros: The card worked for about 10 months. It also ran pretty cool.

Cons: This card is the worst card I have ever owned.
My first card lasted me 10 months before it burned inside my computer. (no joke there was smoke coming out of the case when I opened it.

I sent the card in for an RMA, which was relatively fast, and got the replacement card on 10/29/2014.
On 2/5/2015 the card I got back from the RMA also burned.
This time there was not enough smoke to detect, so I went ahead and put it in another PC. When I turned the PC on the card shot sparks out about 3 inches.
(I am going to send this one in for an RMA too, but I don't think I want an MSI card in my PC and house anymore.)

This has to be the worst card ever made and is a fire hazard. If you plan on buying MSI I suggest you don't.

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers have had similar issues, so when MSI says this is not a known problem you can take what they say with a bucket of salt.

Manufacturer Response:
