Gaming series graphics card

Now You're Gaming With MSI

A graphics card is the single most important element for more FPS. As gamers, we understand not just any graphics card "will do." That's why MSI brings you the best of the best to its gaming series graphics card. The AMD Radeon R9 series GPU brings an array of advanced graphics technologies to elevate your gaming experience. Want more performance without annoying noise and heat. With MSI GAMING series graphics cards you get just that.

Gaming Series Features

Gaming App
Easy Tune, Easy Play

OC Mode
  • Tune up core clock and fan speed for the best performance.
Gaming Mode (Default)
  • Provides a stable gaming experience with higher core clock.
Silent Mode
  • The best operating environment with fabulously low noise.

Advanced Twin Frozr IV

MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked off the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan, dual-slot design where others offer less effective means.

Twin Frozr coolers also use a large Aluminium-fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI Gaming graphics card to stay cooler than the competition.

Futhermore, MSI provides all new Airflow Control technology on the Twin Frozr. This new thermal tech leads air to the heat pipe by a special deflector on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to heat pipes directly. In addition, this exclusive heatsink design increases the area of heatsink to enhance the efficiency of dissipation.

Military Class Components

One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its Gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking.

Solid Caps

With their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as an over-10-year lifespan.

Hi-C Cap

A Hi-c Cap is a very small but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing around a CPU socket to install large coolers, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. Thanks to Hi-c CAP's MSI mainboards are the most energy efficient in the market.

New Super Ferrite Chokes

New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is super-permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at about 100 degrees Farenheit (35 degrees Celsius) cooler, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency, and offer better overclocking power stability.

Experience - Predator
Share for Fun

A built-in screen and video capturing tool named Predator captures your screen as still images or videos with the push of a button and allows you to capture and record your coolest, goofiest, and most awesome gaming moments on your PC!

MSI Afterburner has quickly become the favorite overclocking software for media, overclockers and end-users. Because of its simple interface, it's easy to learn, but it packs a lot of powerful features like an integrated benchmark utility called Kombustor that can check your system performance in benchmarking mode, or run as a stability test.

Don't speak English? No problem: MSI Afterburner is translated in many languages including Russian, Spanish, Chinese and Korean! Not satisfied with the looks? Just change to one of the many different skins or create one yourself with ease!

Even better, you can run Afterburner straight from your smartphone! Download the MSI Afterburner App from Google Play or the Apple store and start overclocking wit.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Ran good while it worked.

Cons: This was a terrible card. It quit working after just over 90 days. The high def and the vga both crapped out and it would no longer provide a signal to the computer. Spend money somewhere else.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Got it plugged into my mother board and boom up and running great quality and great graphics. Very quiet can't hear it while playing my games even when my games are on low volume.

Cons: What could possibly be bad about it.

1 out of 5 eggsRED FLAG whenever I now hear "AMD' Graphics Card"

Pros: Nice Dragon logo on the box!

Cons: I owned this card for ONE WHOLE DAY before it failed. This is a HUGE disappointment as I have already RMA'ed a 270x before (different brand) this card and I said, "Ah it has 150 good eggs.....more than the other 270x (COUGH **GIGA** COUGH) that arrived not functioning." Install was simple of course. I have a 850 watt power supply so, what can go wrong? After the simplicity of installing the card in my after-market box, everything else went south from there. Installed the latest drivers and Catalyst Control Center (which I have long hated since the HD series began). Oh wait! It has detected a new driver for me! Wait, What? This is the same NEW driver I just installed! What?! No worries.....right? Welp, from that point on, every game I ran only would run for up to FIVE MINUTES. Skyrim crashed after the Bethesda logo would go dark. Battlefield started to crash right after the loading screen. Payday (the graphics-simple Bulldozer Engine) would just give me a black screen but all the audio your ears can handle. install that should take no more than 20 minutes, turned into an entire night of troubleshooting.

I just got home and pressed the power button on my PC and the PC would IMMEDIATELY shut down! What the!??!?

I slapped my older Geforce 750 superclocked back in and PRESTO-the whole system lit up like a Christmas tree (add a lot of LED in the case). This is a MAJOR malfunction on the assembly could I get TWO 270x's, both different companies, and they both fail in ONE DAY???? Everyone ragged on PowerColor's quality, but that 270x is still running fine since I bought it (crossing my fingers.....). This now brings my "New PC build" back TWO STEPS. It should have been completed on Christmas Day:////

There will NOT be a third step back. I really wanted this AMD build to be fully AMD. from the MOBO, Processor, and Graphics Card.

The next card after the refund, will be NVIDIA.

Other Thoughts: Last night's fiasco is AMD's last on me. Radeon cards held up VERY well in my opinion until AMD bought them up. I even put my HD Radeon 55XX into my new case, and IT STILL WORKS after being on my parts Shelf for almost five years now.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If possible verify the MSI card on another working system.
4. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Best Regards,

3 out of 5 eggsNice Sale

Pros: Works exactly as intended
Price was great on black friday

Cons: Playing any game makes it whine out of box. Started off quiet enough to not hear over the speakers, but has recently started to make little chirping noises recently too. Bad luck I guess.

Other Thoughts: Was still very much worth it, it's just annoying.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Budget Gaming GPU

Pros: - Runs cool AND quiet
- Great bang for $$$
- MSI Gaming App is a great novice OC tool
- Runs most games at max detail with great framerates

Cons: - It's the lowest-tier of the R9 series
- If you want to play Skyrim with uber-visual mods at 35-40 FPS minimum, this is not the card for you
- Lacks voltage control (the HAWK version has voltage control)

Other Thoughts: I have this paired with an AMD FX-8320 and a nice Corsair case and the temps are amazing. If MSI claims this card can last 18 years with temps going up to about 75 C, then I may have a card that could last a lifetime with the temps I get.

Idle: 33 C*
Max: 58 C*

*These temps were read during a cold California winter with a temp of 60 F inside my house*

Also, the fans were pretty much pleasant at every speed except 100% (where it sounds like a good ol' hair dryer).

I've felt like it was worth to skip the 7000 series even though at the same time, I technically bought a 7000 series card anyways. If you're looking for a budget/mid-range GPU, this is definitely worth it.

3 out of 5 eggsMSI R9 270X............Meh

Pros: Quiet, cool running card.

Cons: Performace seems to be suffering. I am thinking that perhaps I have a defective card. Ever since I got this card I keep getting locked into this blue screen (both monitors), I can still hear music in the background and can even keep talking on skype but i have no visual. The only way to get back to normal is to hard boot the computer. Not only was I having this issue but while playing Terraria.........yes you heard right Terraria, I am getting choppy frame rates. This card should blow through terraria in its sleep. This is the first MSI card I have ever tried, I have always used NVidia so i was pretty disappointed when I started having issues already.

Other Thoughts: I tried reinstalling drivers (both card and chipset), using beta drivers but I am still having this issue. Probably end up returning it for another card.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the Price

Pros: Runs Cool
Great Price
Great Specs

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I know it's difficult looking through a whole bunch of GPUs but I was very impressed with this card. I've had it for over a year and have had no issues with it. I do have an additional fan that I'm sure helps keep the card cool, but staying around 35-40C is pretty awesome in-game with high FPS and max graphics settings. The AMD drivers can be a pain if you also have an AMD processor, but that's to be expected.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Graphically is outstanding. no clipping or screen tearing. runs every game i throw at it very great.

Cons: Now for the cons. it is a great card but i don't know if it's drivers doing this but after like 10min or so playing a game or watching twitch, the GPU crashes and i get a Green/Blue/Grey/White screen with streaks of lines threw it. ive checked everywere. i might have a faulty card but it is a very nice card so don't let what im saying discourage you from buying it.

Other Thoughts: anyone that knows how to fix this would be very great :)
