The MSI R9 270 GAMING 2G (V305) Radeon R9 270 delivers competitive performance and great value, perfect for those seeking 1080p gameplay at maximum settings. It's based on the highly acclaimed AMD 28nm GCN architecture and boasts DirectX 11.2 support, giving you the power to drive today’s hottest games — and tomorrow’s. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you can leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. Whether using a 4k monitor or combining multiple HD monitors, you’ll get an expansive experience that’s truly out of sight. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies is included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

This graphics card offers more with innovative MSI gaming series features such as a TWIN FROZR IV cooler, military class components, and more.

  • newegg ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry-defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked of the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design, where others have to resort to less effective means. The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large aluminum fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes, enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition. Futhermore, MSI provides all-new Airflow Control technology on the Twin Frozr. This new thermal tech leads the airflow to the heat pipe by a special deflector on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to the heat pipes directly. In addtion, this exclusive heatsink design increases the area of the heatsink, so it enhances the dissipation efficiency much more.
  • newegg MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking. SOLID CAP - One With their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan. Hi-C CAP - A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES - New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35°C lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency and better overclocking power stability.
  • newegg GAMING APP A lightweight, easy-to-use OC tool, the Gaming App allows you to switch between OC Mode, Gaming Mode, and Silent Mode with one press of a button. Each mode has an individual pre-defined Base Clock and Boost Clock to meet different play scenarios.
  • newegg EXPERIENCE - PREDATOR A built-in screen and video capturing tool named Predator captures your screen as still images or videos with the push of a button. So you can capture and record your coolest, goofiest and most awesome gaming moments on your PC!
  • newegg AFTERBURNER MSI Afterburner has quickly become the favorite overclocking software for media, overclockers and end-users. Because of its simple interface, it's easy to learn, but it packs a lot of powerful features like an integrated benchmark utility called Kombustor that can check your system performance in benchmarking mode, or run as a stability test. Don't speak English? No problem: MSI Afterburner is translated in many languages including Russian, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean! Not satisfied with the looks? Just change to one of the many different skins or create one yourself with ease! Even better, you can run Afterburner straight from your smartphone! Download the MSI Afterburner App from Google Play or the Apple store, and start overclocking wit.

1 out of 5 eggsTremendously Disappointing

Pros: - Easy-ish installation.
- If it worked, it would have been reasonably priced.
- The power supply I ordered at the same time is quite nice.
- Awesome at displaying graphics for Minesweeper and/or Spider Solitaire.

Cons: - Officially died 1 year, 9 months, 24 days after receipt. Probably actually died 1 minute, 9 seconds, 24 milliseconds after receipt.
- Donald Trump thinks that this is a good graphics card.
- Every driver update involved an ever-changing series of trials in order to make your computer function again. Did you see the movie Cube? Like that. But worse.

Other Thoughts: Silliness aside, this card was a nightmare from the beginning. Within a couple of days of installation, I began having issues like this: i.imgur.com/INFJaVo.jpg. (Guild Wars 2, taken three days after installation.) I updated drivers and other AMD/MSI-suggested software, but it still took two or three days to get things working again. This process would repeat every three months or so. Out of nowhere, my computer would spazz, crash, and display images like the one above. I'd update software, I'd delete and reinstall drivers, and so forth. Every time it became a little bit more difficult to get up and running again. The time before this most recent (and final) incident involved several hours of a self-rebooting system and a lot of blue screens.

Then, last night, after four or five self-shut downs, the MSI R9 270 that I've had for under two years ceased to work. I could turn on my computer, but there was never a display. I tried three different monitors (four, if you want to count a TV screen) and double checked all of those monitors on another computer with a healthy video card. I changed adapters four times. I tried HDMI inputs. I tried HDMI inputs using adapters. I double tested all of those on another computer. I ran my usual monitor (the one getting nothing from the card) through my work laptop. Nothing. Plugged directly into the motherboard and could finally get an image that allowed me to diagnose and get to the BIOS.

I decided to yank the card. Only then could I get images and boot into Windows (7, if you're wondering). I uninstalled all AMD drivers. Turned the computer off. Plugged the MSI card back into the motherboard. And...nothing. Same as before. So, here I sit, friends again with the Intel HD Graphics 4000 that came with my computer.

I've yet to start the refund/replacement procedure with either Newegg or MSI. Though the card should still be under warranty, I do not want a replacement. I'd prefer a refund, but I accept that that result is doubtful. This product has been nothing but frustration and I'd prefer to be out $180 than to put another possibly-frustrating product back into my computer. In exchange, I'm leaving this review. At this point, the card is old and, perhaps, there won't be many people buy it. (In fact, right now, it's out of stock.) Maybe, however, it will give someone that is researching cards enough pause to avoid buying from MSI all together.

I'm not overly demanding of my graphics. I just want to throw healing spells around, have some fun, immerse, and not worry about tears and crashes and weird pixelation and so forth. I'm not overly loyal to either side of the Nvidia/AMD aisle. However, due to this card's failure, this is the first and last time I will ever knowingly buy an AMD product.

Thanks for reading.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card.

Pros: Runs every game I have at max settings except Tomb Raider.
I can't promise that the rest of my system isn't what's holding it back, my CPU and MB are not top-of-the-line and both are from 2012. The onboard overclocking software is also a huge plus.
Overall GREAT GPU for the price.
Oh also the two free games that came with it are pretty happening (Deus Ex and Tomb Raider).

Cons: Kinda huge.
A little bit finicky on the connection (sort of)

Other Thoughts: Make sure all your screws are in tight, I did not put mine in tight enough and it appeared to die.
Figured out that the connections were not tight enough and now everything is great.

5 out of 5 eggsOver a year

Pros: Purchased this to build a new rig over a year ago and things have gone smoothly. No complaints or issues to speak of. I'm currently using the card to take advantage of a 24" Asus and older 19" Dell monitor setup. The Asus is on DVI as is the Dell. Every now and then I'll push out some HDMI video feeds to a 32" Samsung TV for some Netflix or Prime watching.

Really, no complaints. The card has done everything I've expected.

Cons: Little to speak of. You know what you're getting when you make a purchase here at Newegg.

Other Thoughts: I used to be on a yearly if not 6 month cycle with upgrades. Nowadays things still changes frequently, but performance wise the games I play and the demands of the applications I use rarely stress the card. My only hope is that the industry could settle on a video in/out standard. Too many monitors out there with mixed features that don't always align with card manufacturers. I prefer a dual monitor setup and looking around the market right now some monitors don't have DVI, just HDMI. Pushing native HDMI without adapters or dongles isn't possible on this card. Minor things you can plan for, but it can be frustrating when using old hardware with new.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Doesn't ever really got hot. Runs almost every game at max settings (not ultra). Long life span, I've had this thing for at least a year and it has never had an issue. Great perks when it arrived in the mail, runs great with MSI Gaming App and even came with a cool MSI door handle!

Cons: Slowly aging sadly, it's still an amazing product and a great deal.....If you can't afford more. There are better GPU's now with the release of the new MSI Frozen V GPU's.

Other Thoughts: I've used this beauty for a year and I absolutely love it. It has served me so well in my first build and I will always remember it. However with the Oculus Rift coming out I cannot run the Rift with this, so I had to upgrade to the MSI GTX 980.

1 out of 5 eggsArtifacts

Pros: The card looks great and gets decent frame rate when it works.

Cons: Had to RMA within a month,

the card got artifacts like mad while gaming and on desktop.

two months into my replacement card and now its doing the same thing plus I had to pay shipping just to get the replacement $17 extra bucks down the drain now ill probably have to replace the replacement.

Other Thoughts: All I wanted to do was play my games but in the end this has been a complete headache, I know its the cards fault I have a proper PSU, RAM, CPU, ect.. MSI is the only brand GPU I ever had problems with. I hate to say it but I guess Nvidia is the way to go at least for me anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsOutlived by a goldfish

Pros: Well... at least it played PacMan at 60 frames.

Cons: Honestly though, it was great for the first five months. I hardly overclocked it, and after 5 months of use, it started artifacing in every game. If you don't know what that is, look it up and then figure out if you think you can keep playing games when that glitch happens.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointing

Pros: When it was working, gave the expected results. The benchmark was very good considering the price.

Cons: The card worked for a few weeks then started to show problems, ie. the screen would frozen and painted one color. It happened repeatedly, each time forcing a reboot. I returned the card to MSI and they sent me a replacement card (could be a new or a refurbished as per their policy). The replacement card did not work at all, ie. no signal was sent to the monitor from either the 2 DVI ports or the HDMI port. I tried to move the small switch on the video card one way or an other but nothing worked. When in that state I connected the DVI cable back to the MB video card to see if the PC was running but nothing showed up so it "appeared" to have hung the PC as well. I returned that replacement card and MSI sent me an other one. Exact same situation, ie. no signal sent to the monitor. I got a RMA number from MSI and I'll send that 2nd replacement card to them. This time I specified that I'd like them to send me a NEW card or a different card that would be 100% compatible with my MB (ASROCK Z87 PRO3). We'll see what they send me.

This card was a very nice deal on Newegg.ca when I bought it but considering the 2 return shipping I had to pay for, it's quickly becoming a money pit. Very very very disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsStrong value card

Pros: Easy install, works as expected and 18 year warranty.

Cons: None yet and none that I can foresee.

Other Thoughts: You really can't do better for the current price range as far as lower end R9's go.
