The MSI R9 270 GAMING 2G (V305) Radeon R9 270 delivers competitive performance and great value, perfect for those seeking 1080p gameplay at maximum settings. It's based on the highly acclaimed AMD 28nm GCN architecture and boasts DirectX 11.2 support, giving you the power to drive today’s hottest games — and tomorrow’s. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you can leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. Whether using a 4k monitor or combining multiple HD monitors, you’ll get an expansive experience that’s truly out of sight. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies is included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

This graphics card offers more with innovative MSI gaming series features such as a TWIN FROZR IV cooler, military class components, and more.

  • newegg ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry-defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked of the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design, where others have to resort to less effective means. The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large aluminum fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes, enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition. Futhermore, MSI provides all-new Airflow Control technology on the Twin Frozr. This new thermal tech leads the airflow to the heat pipe by a special deflector on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to the heat pipes directly. In addtion, this exclusive heatsink design increases the area of the heatsink, so it enhances the dissipation efficiency much more.
  • newegg MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking. SOLID CAP - One With their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan. Hi-C CAP - A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES - New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35°C lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency and better overclocking power stability.
  • newegg GAMING APP A lightweight, easy-to-use OC tool, the Gaming App allows you to switch between OC Mode, Gaming Mode, and Silent Mode with one press of a button. Each mode has an individual pre-defined Base Clock and Boost Clock to meet different play scenarios.
  • newegg EXPERIENCE - PREDATOR A built-in screen and video capturing tool named Predator captures your screen as still images or videos with the push of a button. So you can capture and record your coolest, goofiest and most awesome gaming moments on your PC!
  • newegg AFTERBURNER MSI Afterburner has quickly become the favorite overclocking software for media, overclockers and end-users. Because of its simple interface, it's easy to learn, but it packs a lot of powerful features like an integrated benchmark utility called Kombustor that can check your system performance in benchmarking mode, or run as a stability test. Don't speak English? No problem: MSI Afterburner is translated in many languages including Russian, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean! Not satisfied with the looks? Just change to one of the many different skins or create one yourself with ease! Even better, you can run Afterburner straight from your smartphone! Download the MSI Afterburner App from Google Play or the Apple store, and start overclocking wit.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Keeps cool under load well
quiet
fast
fairly cheap IMO

Cons: only 2GB Vram

Other Thoughts: Got this for a pc build to run some games on Ultra as high as I could get the FPS to go. This GPU does it. I recommend getting two of them for crossfire play if you can. My one is good, but I am a performance junkie so I got another one and it is in the mail, even though i didn't need it.

I guess some people get these DOA, but mine was fine and still is. Hope my second one is too.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond Review Same Card.

Pros: Overclocks to 1025 core nicely if you get a high quality spin of the card and 1500 Memory at 1.125v. Really is amazing with all the new updates after owning the card for a year, but I had my struggles over the year with this card. Read the Cons and other thoughts.

Cons: It's a con and not a con at the same time. I've struggled with same problems as other users whom have had the card for 6+ months. Then there are users who have had the card for only months and the thing shuts down. See other thoughts for how I dealt with the issues.

Other Thoughts: I got this card at the tail end of 2013 when the catalyst driver was still in it's infancy for this architecture. I was able to get my core clock up to a mythic 1125 core 1500 mem at 1.125 using VBE7. It was awesome. Though my games were still under-performing and choppy (Titan-Fall, Tomb Raider, even League of Legends (Wat?) and yet no crashes. Then the good people at AMD optimized the card. They did such a fantastic job of optimizing the card at the end 14.12 Catalyst; that I'm running High or ultra on all my games with zero chop, but the funny thing that happened was that I get random shutdowns or close outs of games. This was frustrating to the point of me wanted to send my card back which I couldn't so... I re-down clocked it in MSI afterburning. Didn't work. The clock stuck it's place in the card bios (which makes sense). I reset my card through VBE7 to 1000Mhz core and set my MSI afterburner to 1025 after several tests (FurMark and hours of gaming) and viola! No more random crashes or shutdowns no matter how long I play and I do have a amazing spin of the card. After going through this I've realized that the AMD updates have put a much greater strain on core clock and need to have a slower core clock and this card was tested when you could have higher one with old Catalyst drivers. Bottom line: I love this card more than ever now since I don't have anymore random frame rate drops or crashes and overall performs better at slower core clocks (though do overclock mem to 1500 [If you can]). If your card randomly shuts down AT STOCK voltages and clock speeds with THE NEW Catalyst drivers before you RMA I'd suggest dropping your Core clock to 925 or 900mhz in MSI afterburner. Don't worry your card will still perform at stock clock, but when frames start getting scrambled the card appears to dial back to the in-between setting 925 or 900 in my tests which will cause a 2 frame per second dip vs a crash. If that's upsetting to you then I recommend an RMA and hopefully you get an awesome spin like mine.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this card 1 year ago and It runned all games in Ultra easily. It was running cool and quiet. There is now some games that I can't run in ultra like Far Cry 4, but if I run it in Very High or High, I get about 58 fps, and it's still better than the nextgen consoles.

Cons: 2 weeks ago, one fan stopped spinning so I sent it to MSI's RMA. Today, I received an email that my card has been processed and that my card is on the way back home. I know some people are upset at MSI's RMA, but I had no problem at all with it other than I did have wait 3 weeks.

**3 weeks during the holidays.**

2 out of 5 eggsGood budget card

Pros: Good price, good performance, nicely built, great cooling.

Cons: Two bad cards now. I know, it's my own fault for buying the same card again, but I found a superb deal and thought I had luck on my side.

Other Thoughts: Posted a negative review about issues with last card, had MSI offer me an RMA, then never heard anything from them after I contacted them about an RMA. So I bought a second one (thought couldn't happen twice) when it was on a great sale and now I'm having issues again. I have a feeling I'll get another canned response from MSI about this and then hear nothing from them once I contact them about the card for an RMA. I'll never buy another MSI product again. My last non R9 card was an MSI as well and I had issues with a bad port, but the card performed amazingly well. Fool me three times... and I only have myself to blame.

If you get a good card, awesome, you got a superb deal. If not, welcome to the club, we have jackets.

1 out of 5 eggsFailing after 3 months of use.

Pros: Price to performance ratio for under $200 was exactly what I was looking for.

When working for the first 2.5 months, played everything on the highest settings without issue.

Cons: After 2.5 months of working flawlessly, I am experiencing random black/blank screens. Last night (Dec. 30th 2014) I witnessed the card driver failing 3 times in < 5 minutes; partially recovering each time. I am completely dissatisfied with this product.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card back in March 2014 and it has not left it's box until last September 2014 when I bought a new computer case to fit the video card in. The card has been running at stock settings, with plentiful air flow, and has never been overclocked or tweaked once.

I don't know how I would even go about RMA-ing the product as I have long thrown away the original box. Blind faith, huh...

1 out of 5 eggsMSI - bad customer service

Pros: When working, the card was fast and played most games on high settings.

Cons: Just over a month after installing, the card died on me. Given that I just missed the 30 day return window, I had to go through the nightmare that is MSI's RMA process. I had to pay to have the board shipped to MSI, then wait about 3 weeks to get a new one back. They only send refurbs, and the refurb they sent was thrown together in shoddy packaging. They couldn't even bother to close/tape up the anti-static bag, it was hanging open. Considering that it was being sent during a snowy winter period, a little care with packaging would have been nice. The refurb they sent me was dirty on the outside, and upon installing I found that I had checked artifacts all over the screen and was getting BSODs on a regular basis. I had to RMA a second time, and am now waiting on another card, hoping that they don't send me another piece of junk. Currently I've been without a decent graphics card for five weeks. If I get another defective card from them I'll be contacting the better business bureau, since they clearly don't have any quality control and don't test the products before sending them out.

Other Thoughts: MSI has a reputation for good products, but if you happen to get a lemon, you're in for a rough time.

(Note: if the company will actually follow through in product a decent replacement product for my BRAND NEW video card, I'll adjust my review accordingly)

4 out of 5 eggspretty good

Pros: One of the best cards you can get for the price.. outperforms the gtx 750 ti which is slightly more expensive, i was actually looking at purchasing that and watched a benchmark video on it and this was on the list always 20-30 frames ahead of the 750.. its a great card.. i recommend it.

Cons: On my 2nd one.. seems like some of these are duds.. also battlefield 3 is no longer on the list for the free games... kinda bummed.

2 out of 5 eggsGraphical Errors

Pros: Two Fans
A good price

Cons: After a few months of using the card, I started getting graphical errors on my screen, like checkersboarded squares that stay on one monitor, or screen tearing even after I adjusted the settings to try to v-sync it with any game I would play.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. If possible verify the MSI videp card on another working system or another card on your system to check.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome stuff

Pros: Its a good price for the $.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I found out if you buy this GPU you are going to need a good PSU no less than 750W pending your other parts and 40 PLUS ampts. I cannot run this GPU at load with 575W at 25 ampts nor can I run its at load with 550W 41 ampts. So next upgrade an high grade PSU.
