The Radeon R9 290, the AMD's new flagship GPU, offers the weapon of choice for gamers who demand the best. It's based on the new 28nm Hawaii GPU architecture and introduces the support for DirectX 11.2, capable of rendering reality-redefining imagery in the hottest titles. With a massive number of stream processors and a gigantic 4GB GDDR5 memory, this GPU delivers the performance you need for smooth gameplay at extreme settings. The new CrossFire technology allows you to build a multiple graphics cards configuration without the use of interconnect bridges. With Ultra Resolution Gaming, you'll leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies are included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

Coupled with the R9 290X is advanced MSI technologies. This MSI Gaming VGA Card comes equipped with custom Twin Frozr cooling, military class components for better stability, and features OC mode, allowing you to unleash the full potential with the press of a button.

  • newegg ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry-defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked of the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design, where others have to resort to less effective means. The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large aluminum fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes, enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition. Furthermore, MSI provides all-new Airflow Control technology on Twin Frozr. This new thermal technology leads the airflow to the heat pipe by a special deflector on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to the heat pipes directly.
  • newegg MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards, because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking. SOLID CAP - One With their aluminum core design, Solid CAPs have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs, and provide lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) and an over-10-year lifespan. Hi-C CAP - A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES - New Super Ferrite Chokes use a ferrite core that is super-permeable. This allows the super ferrite chokes to run at a 35°C lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency and better overclocking power stability.
  • newegg GAMING APP A lightweight, easy to use OC tool, the Gaming App allows you to switch between OC Mode, Gaming Mode, and Silent Mode with the press of a button. Each mode has individual pre-defined Base Clock and Boost Clock to meet different play scenarios.
  • newegg EXPERIENCE - PREDATOR A built-in screen and video capturing tool named Predator captures your screen as still images or videos with the push of a button. So you can capture and record your coolest, goofiest, and most awesome gaming moments on your PC!
  • newegg AFTERBURNER MSI Afterburner has quickly become the favorite overclocking software for media, overclockers, and end users. Because of its simple interface, it's easy to learn, but it packs a lot of powerful features, like an integrated benchmark utility called Kombustor that can check your system performance in benchmarking mode, or run as a stability test. Don't speak English? No problem: MSI Afterburner is translated in many languages, including Russian, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean! Not satisfied with the looks? Just change to one of the many different skins, or create one yourself with ease! Even better, you can run Afterburner straight from your smartphone! Download the MSI Afterburner App from Google Play or the Apple store.
  • newegg New Generation of CrossFire The card features next-generation CrossFire support for up to four graphics cards with no interconnect bridge required.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome gpu

Pros: I have had this card for a little over 2 weeks now and I can honestly say I have never been more satisfied with my purchase. Switched back over to amd after many years of nvidia and honestly I would chose an amd card over nvidia anyday. Runs every game I throw at it hitting atleast 60 fps on ultra. I love that this card is smaller than most of the other 280x and 290s because I still love using my old antec 300 (ancient I know but I don't see any reason to switch cases after I did a bit of modding for cable management. Some people complain about the heat but I havent had an issue, my card usually sits at around 50c under load, so nothing awful.

Cons: Some people say the power consumption is a flaw but this beast needs it. I'm running this off of a Rosewell 600watt and I'm not having an issues. It was a bit heavy a sagged ever so slightly but with the after market cooling system this thing has I am not complaining

Other Thoughts: Looking for a somewhat future proof card, with astounding performance and amazing price tag, this baby is for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Impressive Card!!! As always MSI Gaming cards are quite pleasing to the Eye! Backplate is awesome, perhaps best attribute to this card, absolutely no leaning, sagging, or dropping. Gaming app is great!! Card seems to run cool, and despite negative comments I can't hear it at all Price Is outstanding I highly recommend

Cons: Not really a Con but really not a huge upgrade from the HD 7950. I bought this card to help out a friend with a 7850 I had in another rig, moved the 7950 there and installed it in this rig.
OC setting ran valley Heaven huge disparity in frames with a max at 182.3 and min at 27.0 92.5 fps finish.

Other Thoughts: Have owned several Msi products in past always happy with quality. As a rule I stay away from anything with a rebate. I have never gotten one even tho I did all paperwork correctly. They are all on my blacklist and will not buy from anyone who cheated me on rebate. hope this doesn't happen here as I do like MSI products !! Time will tell If I own any further MSI products. Rebates to me are a sad part of the business design for people to either forget or get refused out of it wish Companies would just give all a good price and get rid of the rebate nonsense, which by the way has to cost them $$$ just to do, Ridiculous

5 out of 5 eggsMy favorite card to date

Pros: -Second Fastest AMD Card for great price
-Uber cooler for heat dissipation
-MSI's military grade components
-One of the best overclocking cards I've ever used
-4GB Frame Buffer for all the filters
-Great I/O for all your monitor needs
-One of the best looking cards I've ever used

Cons: -Runs at about 80c at max (OC'd) load
-Sucks up a massive amount of power (Almost 300w under full load)
-Can get quite loud under full load
-Requires two separate pcie cables (1 8pin, 1 6pin)
-Requires a case with ample room and airflow

(See other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I got this card to replace my dual 270x crossfire setup. Moving away from crossfire was one of the best decisions I've ever made with regard to computers. The MSI R9 290 is one beast of a card. In benchmarks it stacks up right along the GTX 970 (And even faster in AMD optimized games). Out of the box the card has a base clock of 937MHz and memory clock of 1250MHz. After only a little fiddling I got the boost clock running at 1060MHz and the memory at 1450HMz (The more power you push through the card the higher your settings will be). No matter what I threw at it this 290 never slowed and never cared. Farcry 4 at Ultra and Battlefield 4 at Ultra were both far above the ideal 60FPS at 1080p. Even Star Citizen maxed out always stayed above 30FPS at 1080p.

No card is without it's draw backs and this card does have a few. First, under full load this card is HOT. During gameplay in Farcry 4 I would easily see upper 70s and even into the low 80s. With all the heat that this card puts out the fans have to spin faster and faster. Under full load the fans would spin up to about 50%-70% and they are quite noisy (Not the loudest I've used though). Lastly this card is an absolute power hog. Under full load the card will be sucking upwards of 300w by itself. My computer is using a 600w PSU and it is barely scraping buy. If you are lower than 600w DO NOT BUY THIS CARD. You'll be starving it of power and it is not going to function properly. You'll also run the risk of burning out your PSU.

All in all this is the best card I've ever used and I absolutely recommend it. With the R9 300 series right around the corner these cards are going to be an absolute steal. Buy yours now before their all gone because they will go fast.

5 out of 5 eggsBesy GPU i ever owned!

Pros: This graphics card can run every game i threw at it at 1080p and well above 60 FPS because FPS is just the tip of the ice berg. I got this GPU for only $140 with a $30 rebate, 3 free games, and a free headset so i have a great deal. it can also kill games at 4K. This GPU is great looking and has a Back plate which goes great with it. And please do not beleive that you need a 800W or 1,000W PSU to use this because i hjave an XFX TS 550W PSU and it runs this GPU great i even ran a 48 hour benchmark using TDP of only 200W-250W and on normal usage it barely uses more than 180W at times. I have an i5-4690, 2x4GB Ripjaw X RAM, an Optical Drive, 5 Corsair Case fans, an NZXT Sentry 2 fan Controller, a WD Black 1TB HDD, Samsung 840 EVO SSD and an old PS3 HDD in it for odds and ends :P and it runs it all like a dream. It is a great card and for the price it is better then any NVIDIA when it comes to Price/Performance. And make sure your GPU has 4GB of VRAM as many games coming out are using well above 2 and 3 GB.

Cons: This GPU is great, yes but it is extremely fat and big. It barely fit in my Tower only having a a credit card lanth left, lol. Also this card is extremely loud when fans go to %100. This GPU runs extremely hot when even playing facebook games but it is meant to run hot and usueally around 70-80 degrees. Now the worst thing of this card is the software is pure garbage because the new MSI Afterburner causes screen tearing on almost every game and the recording feature it has with the garbage software called rivatunr is bad. Make sure yoou close out MSI afterburner if you notice screen tearing, FPS drop, or weird artifacts ad it most likely not be your GPU but the software.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: This card is an absolute beast. Pretty nice design too. I enjoy it. It does what it's supposed to.

Cons: Read other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: This review serves as an update to my earlier one. I was in the process of sending an RMA request for this card. It would constantly freeze when put under load (BF4, Furmark test). Upon tinkering with Catalyst Control, I lowered the voltage limit by a bit and changed the memory frequency around (not sure that's what helped) and fixed the problem. Not worth deducting an egg, but the software associated with this card and AMD in general can be frustrating at times.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks fine when it works...

Pros: When this beast is running it's beautiful. I ran BF4 at all High settings easy. Didn't even break a sweat.

Cons: Well here's the thing. While the card is a beast when it works, I can never get it to actually work. BF4 won't even load into a game without a full freeze requiring a cold reboot. I've tried everything from reseating RAM to switching PCIe slots to setting the PCIe freq. to 100 MHz in BIOS. I've tried forcing constant voltage and disabling ULSI in MSI Afterburner. I've updated every driver I could think of and even rolled back to several older ones in the hopes it would fix it. After a ton of tinkering, I feel like it's RMA time.

Other Thoughts: Having said that, I am beyond excited to receive a fully functional card like this one. When BF4 would run, it would run flawlessly and quietly. I love the card. I just hate that it locks my computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Fantastic card, solid build. Weighed in at 4.20lbs (hehehe) Looks fantastic. Furthermore, runs farcry 4 at 60fps on ultra settings, no hiccups. Bought it for GTA V, coming for PC on Jan 27 2015. Came with civilization: beyond earth (a $50 game) and I paid $30 less than market price (310) and on top of that, even get a $20 rebate! So thats $100 saved thanks to newegg.
Not to mention, it runs very quiet.

Cons: Power hungry at 300 watts. Requires 6 pin and 8 pin.
people have said it runs fairly hot, which is sort of does. My GTX 650 ran at around 40C and this card runs arund 60-80c depending on the load. It usually only hits around 70C when playing FarCry 4.

Other Thoughts: It runs perfectly fine with a 600 watt corsair cx600 incase you were wondering if you had a powerful enough PSU. It actually recommends 550 watt, however id want atleast 600watt.
