The MSI R9 270X GAMING 2G ITX Radeon R9 270X delivers competitive performance and great value, perfect for those seeking 1080p gameplay at maximum settings. It's based on the highly acclaimed AMD 28nm GCN architecture and boasts DirectX 11.2 support, giving you the power to drive today’s hottest games — and tomorrow’s. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you can leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. Whether using a 4k monitor or combining multiple HD monitors, you’ll get an expansive experience that’s truly out of sight. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies is included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

This graphics card offers more with innovative MSI gaming series features such as a RADAX fan, military class components, and more.

  • newegg Designed for the ITX Platform The model is designed for use with a min-ITX motherboard, making it a great choice for HTPCs or other space-constrained conditions.
  • newegg RADAX fan The new MSI RADAX fan is the first true hybrid Radial/Axial fan and can be found on our mini-ITX GAMING models. It combines the best characteristics of these fan types in one single fan, and allows the best cooling balance in the tiny form factor of mini-ITX. The inside of the fan, based on propeller blade technology takes care of high airflow onto the heatsink. The outside of the fan scoops up additional air, and ensures that air speeds up through the heat-sink and is exhausted outward. This allows the mini-ITX GAMING graphics cards to stay cool, even when you're gaming hard on your small form factor PC.
  • newegg MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its Gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking. SOLID CAP - One With their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan. Hi-C CAP - A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES - New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35°C lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency, and better overclocking power stability.
  • newegg GAMING APP A lightweight, easy-to-use OC tool, the Gaming App allows you to switch between OC Mode, Gaming Mode, and Silent Mode with one press of a button. Each mode has individual pre-defined Base Clock and Boost Clock to meet different play scenarios.
  • newegg EXPERIENCE - PREDATOR A built-in screen and video capturing tool named Predator captures your screen as still images or videos with the push of a button. You can capture and record your coolest, goofiest and most awesome gaming moments on your PC!
  • newegg AFTERBURNER MSI Afterburner has quickly become the favorite overclocking software for media, overclockers and end-users. Because of its simple interface, it's easy to learn, but it packs a lot of powerful features like an integrated benchmark utility called Kombustor that can check your system performance in benchmarking mode, or run as a stability test. Don't speak English? No problem: MSI Afterburner is translated in many languages including Russian, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean! Not satisfied with the looks? Just change to one of the many different skins or create one yourself with ease! Even better, you can run Afterburner straight from your smartphone! Download the MSI Afterburner App from Google Play or the Apple store and start overclocking wit.

1 out of 5 eggsSeemingly bad luck with this card.

Pros: Beautiful card and a great size for my mid-tower case. A bit thicker than expected but still fits perfectly. Runs very quiet for me compared to what some other users seem to be experiencing.

Cons: I've had this card for less than 3 months and I'm already experiencing a lot of artifacts and graphical glitches in multiple games. Ran a few tests and pushing the card to max, it's not overheating so the issue lies in the fact that I unfortunately have a faulty card. MSI is not a fun company to deal with so far in regards to filing an RMA. They make superb motherboards but I don't think I will ever buy a GPU from them again, not after my husband's 270X (full-size version of the same card) started showing some small artifacts as well.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: This is probably the most compact video card that's reasonably fast. Excellent form factor. If you're looking for something that'll fit and you don't have room for a longer card this one will do the trick.

Cons: Came DOA. In the card's intended home, the computer would not even post. Checking to see if it wasn't just a motherboard issue I tried it in another, which instantly gave the "no video card found" post beep error code.

I will probably miss out on the rebate as well because of the exchange issues. So I'll probably be out the return shipping and the MIR. Not very happy about that.

Other Thoughts: I actually have a fair number of other MSI video cards. They've been pretty good in the past. Getting one like this that's dead right out of the box is a first for me.

The exchange with newegg is already under way, will have to see how it works out in the end. Due to size limits, it's very likely that buying any other model would mean getting something a fair bit slower, so I'm giving MSI a second chance.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. Can you verify our MSI video card on another working system to check, or test another working video card on your system to verfiy?
4. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Best Regards,

4 out of 5 eggsGood mid level video card

Pros: -small size
- quite and coolong, 41° c @idle
-posted and loaded drivers with no issues
-software functions well, very simple and straightforward
-came with power adapter
-solid build
- scored a 7.9 on WEI(if anyone wanted to know)
-looks really nice with my other red ram and case fan
- price, was on sale and came with free games too

Cons: -was not able place in first PCIE slot( mostly because I have a H-60 liquid cooler, that sits right over the card when I try and place the side cover back on)
-strance clicking noise from the fan , but went away after 10 minutes.

Other Thoughts: I did not know this was going to be 1/2 inch taller than my last card, an old MSI 7780 HD. Which forced me to place the card almost on top of power supply. I suppose not really a con for me , but if yo are using a pre built liq u don't cool r like myself , you will have clearing issues with a mid tower ATX. So far this card is working great ,, I have yet to fully test it. I'm running a FX_6300 w/16 gig rip jaws @1600. Also I updated the PSU from a 600 watt to a corsair 850 watt , which is a bit over kill for now .

5 out of 5 eggsVery good card

Pros: Powerful card, runs most games on max/ultra settings no problem... no excess heat, no fan screaming or whining. This thing is perfect for my mini itx build. It fits inside my small case, and has no downsides. Really solid build quality also; I had a 260X before this that was loud, not very playable on high resolution or settings. It was no-good compared to this thing. This card weighs almost twice as much as the last one, and that's because of the thick metal heatsink, backplate, and superior fan. Great job MSI.

Cons: It has a dragon, that you might not like... Also, as another reviewer said, its not blue (?)... Who cares this thing is solid.

Other Thoughts: Recommend, two thumbs up

2 out of 5 eggsOk

Pros: Was on sale and had a rebate.

Cons: Red, would have preferred blue.

Other Thoughts: I received this after the rebate postmark was due, which was only a two week window starting before I made my purchase. My claim was rejected because of this. I find it to be rather shady, all my other claims were accepted. Hope the $20 was worth it you just lost a customer. I will not be buying or recommending your products from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Works very well without any negative issues. Very quiet, very cool running. I currently play War Thunder and get 80 - 90 fps with everything EVERYTHING maxed out to beyond movie quality. I tried it out on WoW and same thing. The WoW shadows even were maxed and I got 80-90 FPS. I underclocked it to keep it silent and still get over 60 FPS everywhere (with v-sync turned on). I get no glitches, no artifacts - no issues. It's tiny and does a fabulous job. I got this on sale here + a rebate. I couldn't say no to that deal. It replaced a Radeon 4890 that I got 4 1/2 hard years of use from and was still working. The boost in quality, coolness and quietness was impressive. It scores 172% better for me than the 4890 did and that was a hi-performance model. It only needs 1 8 pin power connector instead of 2 6 pin plugs. It comes with an adapter so you can use a 6 pin plug. I won't need another card for quite a long time. MSI is my main go-to company for MBs and vid cards. My MSI MB is still perfectly fine after about 5 hard years - I had it running in a semi truck over the road in a compact case for 3 years without issue. Performance of this card is on par with the Nvidia GTX 760. This is more card than I needed but the price was great and I would've been nuts to buy the R7 265 or R9 270 (basic model) when I got this for about the same. I do like the Nvidia products but AMD beats them currently in $/performance.

Cons: A bit on the thick side - it barely fit but it does fit. It's a tad fatter than my 4890. It didn't come with a crossfire connector but I don't need it anyhow. It makes direct contact with one of my ram locking tabs. This is as much a fault of the MB as the vid card but it still works fine.

Other Thoughts: This is a really excellent product. I love the small size. It allows for better airflow in any size case. I can see the mainstream cards going to this size just because it's better for airflow.

4 out of 5 eggscrossfirex

Pros: Best cards on the market. The power of a stock 290x with the power consumption of a 280x. No problems so far. Set my monitor back to its native 1920x1200 and I am still able to run everything at ultra settings. The fan on these cards are quiet.

Cons: Games have to be in full screen mode for crossfirex to utilize 100% of both gpus. In window mode my first card is 100% whilst second is only 50%. Crossfire bridge needed.
There is a void warranty sticker on a screw which is upsetting because I want to use an ek thermosphere block on these cards.

4 out of 5 eggsbig upgrade for me

Pros: Low power consumption nice processing speed and handles the games i play quite well. loved the extra games it came with.

Cons: raptor which is a part of Amd's software is annoying.

Other Thoughts: first time i tried Amd's video card and i like it. I've been a fan of there processors for a long time up in till they lost there footing against Microsoft when hyper threading came out. i might be coming back they rock.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing performance and well built.

Pros: Easy install, extremely fast and powerful, great software from MSI, feels exceptionally well built of the highest grade parts.

Cons: None yet. There was on small thing the same day I installed it. After gaming and just chilling browsing the net on youtube the card slowly started rising in temperature to about 46c. It usually sits around 28-30c. I restarted and now issue since. Maybe it was just from new software and updates n all.

Other Thoughts: This thing has performed way better than I had imagined. I don't get the negative reviews, must be a totally random thing. They are software issue negatives not to do with performance. As far as performance this thing completely blew away the r7 260x I returned to get this. I can run watch dogs on high with ultra detail. I ran firestrike test straight out of the box on stock settings using a 2nd gen 3.4 i-3 w/ 6gb and got right at 5k. I see the benchmarks they hit the 5700 range with loaded quad core i-7 and 16gb so that's not bad to come fairly close with a much cheaper system. Most of that is probably due to the physics part of those test. The physics scores stayed basically 95% the same, but FPS skyrocketed.

Whats crazy is that the xfx dual fan r7 260x idled around 30-32 with fan @ 20% and this card idles at 28-30 with fan @ 18% and its only a single fan card. It will probably even run cooler once I put a fan at the bottom below the DVD drive blowing air under the card, right now it just pulls warm air up through the card being almost all the way on the bottom of the case.

After seeing how well built this MSI card is I will definitely get my MB from them next time I upgrade. Everything about it just feels very solid and reliable. Its only been a couple of days so time will tell, but the quality feels on another level from other cards from evga and xfx I have had before.
