4 out of 5 eggs

Comments: I have had this card for a while. everything works great on it. The FM radio is cool, the only problem is the remote dies on me, or the batteries are dead, not sure. Other than that, it is an awesome tv tuner card for the price.

4 out of 5 eggs

Comments: The hardware is good, but the software is absolute crap. After futzing around with this setup for a while, I've landed on a much better TV-viewing solution than the included/downloadable PVS software, which is simply InterVideo's WinDVR repackaged for the MSI vendor.

By using a Winamp plugin called WINAMP TV, available from http://winamptv.zapto.org/, you can use Winamp to acheive much better audio quality and even a better picture in many instances. It only requires the WDM drivers for the hardware, which are both shipped with the tuner card and freely available from MSI's web site.

Since using the WINAMP TV plugin, I've yet to experience the mysterious termination(without any notice as to WHY) of the MSIPVS software, as well as enjoying far superior sound quality by routing it through the Winamp player.

As TV viewing and radio listening are my primary reasons for purchasing this MSI card, I can't comment on the recording or other capabilities of the included software, but if they're even half as buggy and problematic as the straight-up viewing mode, you'll do well to snatch a copy of the Winamp plugin(freeware) if you want to watch TV for more than twenty minutes at a time.

3 out of 5 eggsDo Not Use Included Install CD

Comments: Remember to download the three install files from the MSI website to use when installing the card. The biggest mistake I made was when the PVR software was asking for my serial number, I assumed it wanted the serial number on the MSI tv tuner card. Wrong- it needed a serial number printed on the PVR install CD. Hope that saves somebody some time.

My major complaint so far- all the WDM capture drivers that I try do not work and I get the error message "device cannot start" when installing capture driver. So I'll have to solve that problem before I can record tv shows I guess.

For now, I'm just watching tv in a window on my pc and the picture is not bad. It really depends on the quality of your cable signal I think. If I resize the window past about 800x600 the image gets pretty grainy, especially in full-screen mode there is not good image quality.

There are several third-party PVR programs that seem to work with this tuner, so that is a plus. The sound seems clear and high quality using the external line-out cable to my sound card's line-in jack.

If you think you can figure out the capture drivers and can find this for fifty bucks or less then I say go for it. Otherwise consider spending more on a Hauppage.

5 out of 5 eggsgood quality

Comments: this is much better than 'prolink mpeg-2' that i had before. the tv quality is ok, considering i'm useing a very old antenna. MSI PVS is very easy to setup, it lead me through the setup process and scanned all the channels for me, very easy. I have not the tried windvd creator cd they bundled. all that AND it has an MPEG-4 link, that works great. very small cpu useage while recording to mpeg4 to boot. another good thing is that i can start the program with the remote, and go to full screen with on click, bonus!

i have xp+sp1, the only problem i have is that when divx 5.1.1 codec is installed i get a humm from the speakers, i falsly blamed MSI PVS initally, must be a conflict with the on-board realtek and divx, it.

buy this card while it's in stock!! thanks newegg, you have a long term buyer here.

2 out of 5 eggsI WISH I HADN'T

Comments: bought this card. In Win98 SE, it was very difficult to install. The actual installation procedure was not very much like the one in printed user guide and a requested (but evidently not required) driver dll was not included on the disk. The installation routine inexplicably uninstalls the driver when you run in and then the driver has to be installed during the boot process. Whatever, it was pretty crazy. I managed to get it running, the picture is okay, the software, basically Intervideo WinDVR 2.0, is not that great and when I exit the software I always get a system error message. MSI technical support is not very good. They have only responded to one of three notes I sent them. At their suggestion, I downloaded all latest drivers and software for the card from their website and discovered that the MSI Radio installer had corrupt files within and therefore could not be installed. I don't think they test their productes very thoroughly and should be condemned for their business practicies. As far as I'm concerned this is not a brand you can trust.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent DVD Capture

Comments: This is a really good piece of hardware however the software is buggy.

DO NOT USE THE PROVIDED SOFTWARE.

I used Video Studio 7.0 SE which was bundled with one of my video cards and the capture at DVD quality is great. Plus it also supports MPEG4 (although it will heat your proc).

My advise go for it. Great for video capture.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Great value for the money. MSI software = WinDVR 2.0. Time shifting, plause live TV, enhanced version with most of the features of WinDVR 3.0. For the cost of the software alone, you get a TV card too.

Install was easy, and no problem with drivers in XP.
