1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Seemed like a good enough bang for the buck replacing my burned out card in an older PC

Cons: DOA. Machine booted but there were massive interference lines and odd patterns covering the screen even in DOS mode.

3 out of 5 eggsHotter than Hell

Pros: The card installed easily, and is very quite, of course. It works well enough, and is rather cheap. I had to fiddle with the drivers a little, but it was relatively easy.

Cons: This thing gets seriously hot. I have a high threshold for pain, and I can't touch the PCB for more than four seconds before I have to let go. Strangely, the back of the PCB is hotter than the heatsink. It works, for now, but it's way hotter than I am comfortable with.

Other Thoughts: This is not a R520 based GPU, it's a rehashed R300. I found this out after I bought it, thanks to ATI's weird numbering scheme (every other x1000 is R5xx series). I would not buy this again due to the amount of heat it creates, I was kind of prepared for its limited functionality.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked alright for a while

Pros: Card made installing windows vista possible and ran better than what it replaced.

Cons: Card died 6 months after purchase.
VisionTez return policy lacking.

Other Thoughts: I bought this video card so I could install Vista.... yeah I know .... It worked better than the card it replaced however after a few months of it working fine I started to have games crash and reboots like crazy. After a couple weeks with both the Mobo manufacturer's tech support and ATI tech support, different RAM and a new Mobo I put in the original video card and like magic everything worked.. slow but worked. Turns out if I can find my original purchase receipt and send them a copy of it along with the return shipping I can get my video card fixed! .. = (

5 out of 5 eggsGood Cheap Upgrade for Vista Aero/MCE

Pros: No issues whatsoever. No need for instructions.
Installed card and installed latest drivers from ATI's website.
Affordable legacy AGP and does the job.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this to meet minimum specs to run Vista Aero and also run Media Center which requires 64mb Video Memory. Both worked flawlessly after install. Parents are happy campers now! Great shipping time and price from NewEgg as always.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in XP and Vista for HD videos

Pros: I bought this to replace a Radeon 9550 in order to play HD MPEG2 videos (1080i) on my 2.4 GHz P4 machine (Intel 875 chipset). The 9550 worked fine in Windows XP when using PowerDVD 6, but when I upgraded to a larger monitor, it crashed at the 1680 x 1050 maximum resolution. The X1050 solved that problem just fine, and also gives good hardware acceleration in XP, as well as Vista (see below).

Also, it does not have a fan, and runs cool for me, even a little cooler than the 9550, though that was not hot either.

Cons: None, but I don't do 3D games, so could not evaluate it there.

Other Thoughts: I also found that the Radeon 9550 was not good playing HD videos in Vista using the built-in MPEG decoder of Windows Media Player. Since this one was "Certified for Windows Vista", I thought it might do better. It still required too much CPU power (around 100 percent) using WMP, resulting in a lot of dropped frames and jerky videos. But with PowerDVD 8, it worked much better in Vista, with around 50 percent CPU utilization and smooth videos, good enough for me.

By comparison, my later-generation Radeon HD2400Pro did not do as well in either XP or Vista playing videos, since they changed decoder hardware and apparently the software can't make such good use of it.

5 out of 5 eggsgood bang for the buck

Pros: For the money you can't complain. The catalsyt control center set to advanced has every control imaginable, high versatility!! Great with all the games I play! No complaints!

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Anyone looking for a 4x/8x agp video card should consider this one. Couldn't find one cheaper new, any where on the internet

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work.

Pros: According the the specs this should've been a great card for the money.

Cons: It does not work. I installed the drivers and erased all previous ones. Then I put it in and vertical white lines were all over the screen.

Other Thoughts: Slightly disappointed.
