5 out of 5 eggsit's Alive !!! i thought it died, i was wrong!

Pros: Great Card!!
Set Card at 45% fan speed and it will Work Great for a Gamer.and it won't be too loud.

Cons: 1) 2nd Gpu Runs a little hot because air from first gpu is blown onto it.
2) Card Runs Very Hot!!! at stock settings.70-90 Degree's c.
3) Does not (Sleep) in Windows 7 64 bit home premium with catalyst ver 2012.0704.122.388
Card Does a major failure , locks up system, cannot shut down. must remove graphics card and replace with a different card for one re-boot. system will not get any signal to monitor at all. i installed a nvidia card into system worked fine, then re-installed this card and drivers and it's works great again! Scared me, that why i thought it finally died on last review. but, i figured it out.

Other Thoughts: I Wish i could Select a Gpu and Temp Set point to have it Automatically keep the Card At that Temp!

4 out of 5 eggsit Just died :-(. Lifetime warranty though! We shall See what happens in warranty.

Pros: Worked Great For Over 3 years! running 2 displays. a 24 incher and a 20.
Blows the Hot air out the back of the case!
I Bought it at Newegg on 5/17/2009. Todays Date is 8/19/ 2012.

Cons: it Just Died today! 8-19-2012. Ran a 40" lcd tv on hdmi connection for one night and the card died. bummer. :-(
Runs Hot!
The Fan blows the hot air from the first gpu onto the second gpu making the second gpu run hotter than the first one while blowing the air out the back of the case.

Other Thoughts: Run manual fan control in catalyst. Run the Fan at 40-45% when gaming and it will stay cool enough around 70c under Full load.and still relatively quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsStill a great card!! (2012)

Pros: This thing was ahead of it's time for sure! I recently bought Diablo 3 and it automatically puts all of my graphical settings at max. Easily achieves 80 FPS (I have V-Sync on so it's at a solid 60 FPS and never goes lower). Fantastic card, even today! Oh, bought it on E-b*y for 135$ brand new just a few months ago.

Cons: Does get hot even at idle, but what do you expect for a dual GPU card with only one fan. I use MSI Afterburner to manage the fan control (a must have for this card). I have it in a well ventilated Haf 912 case with 6-120mm fans. Temps are around 54C idle and 72C under full load.

Other Thoughts: My Rig:

CoolerMaster HAF 912 Case
Core I5 2500K CPU @ 4.5Ghz w/Hyper 212 Cooler
ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 MOBO
8GB G.Skill Sniper 1333 RAM
Dual 23" Hannspree Monitors
2 x 64GB Crucial M4 SSD in RAID 0 (Boot)
1TB Seagate Constellation HDD (Storage)
620W Antec NEO ECO PSU (just enough for this card)
Radeon 4870 x2 Dual GPU

4 out of 5 eggsbest card for its time

Pros: Still fast enough to run any game I have ever tried to throw at it with either max or near max settings.
Whether this is due to great hardware or a lack of innovation among game developers I do not know.
None the less, I do not regret the $550 I spent on it back in October 2008 even though that is a lot. It is still working great and unless it fails on me I plan to use it for at least another hardware generation or two.
It is not DX11 of course but not a feature that I feel is used enough yet to need an upgrade.

I do run the card slightly overclocked to 782 gpu clocks to squeeze out a tiny bit more performance and it seems to run fine with no crashing and F@H has no errors so it seems stable.

Cons: VisionTek customer support? do they have any? I don't think so -_-#
When I first got the card I was having some issues which I thought was the gpu at fault so tried to get some tech support from them. Yeah... good luck with that.
took like 2 weeks just for a reply to an email or online post. Then their suggestions were completely useless. Yes the card is seated properly, yes my psu is rated to run this card very well! sheesh. anyway I am never buying from them again. luckily my card is fine.

Other cons:
hotter than the sun I suppose? and a room heater as others have mentioned. though in the winter that is kind of a pro for me lol. It is especially hot when I leave F@H on both cores 24/7 as I have been doing lately.

With the stock air cooler it was also loud as a hair dryer when I cranked the speed up to keep it cooler.

Other Thoughts: I run a custom water cooling system in my rig so the heat and noise the gpu once made are a non issue now.
I highly recommend anyone who is running a good water cooling system to think about sticking a water cooling block on their 4870x2. makes a huge difference. silent except for water pump and other large case fans and temps on the gpus are max around 60 degrees Celsius maybe 70 or so with a furmark running for a while.

If interested as I like to read computer specs myseflf:
case: Cooler Master HAF 932
MB: Asus P6T Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core i7 920
PSU: Corsair HX1000W
RAM: OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz 8-8-8-20
HDD: 2x WD Raptor 300GB in Raid 0
2x WD Caviar Black 2 TB
monitor: gateway FHD2400 1920x1200 best res by far imo

mostly danger den items since purchased form a local micro center. it seems to be excellent equipment

gpu: 4870x2 water block
cpu: 1366 cpu block
pump: D5 Pump Fixed Speed
radiator: extreme duty dual fan
resevoir: Hi

1 out of 5 eggsPlease Correct Newegg!!!!!!!!

Pros: Ok let me start by saying i almost purchased this card but due to doing my homework i didnt. The specs on this card are wrong and being miss led to think its a 5970 2gb card without DX11, open GL 3.2 and eyefinity. This card only has 1600 sp i assure you of that and has been tested as that. I went to a local store that had this exact card after researching it and they tested it and confirmed the specs. Im not saying this isnt a great card in its right but dont be fooled thinking your getting a 5970 for this price like i thought i might get.

Cons: I please ask newegg to correct there specs error before you get an angry mob asking why they got a card with 1/2 the specs they were exspecting after purchase. I love newegg and i just want to warn them and people before they plop there money on the counter and ultimatly end up dissapointed and upset.

Other Thoughts: If im somehow incorrect and someone can conform with screen shots that these are they specs of this card id like to see them. Like i said i had a store test the same brand, same version, same everything and these are not the correct specs. If you buy this card now after seeing this review please dont get mad because its still not what you exspected and thought we might be wrong, you have all been warned and newegg rocks lets just correct this error.

3 out of 5 eggsNewegg broke...?

Pros: Nope

Cons: Nope

Other Thoughts: Look at the specifications people, the 4870 cars only have 800sp's, the 4870 X2 therefore only has 1600sp, this states that it has 3200sp. I highly doubt the validity of this product and would simply attribute its apperance on Newegg as a fluke of some sort.

2 out of 5 eggsThis one was a no-go

Pros: Played Crysis with all settings maxed at ~30FPS. Also ran Batman visibly well.

Cons: Card would not allow my system to sleep (Windows 7). I swapped it out with my old 4870, and this problem went away. Also, I noticed that the package had already been opened when I got it. I got this off the shell-shocker deal 2 weeks ago, and it says retail, but this could be a possible re-furb... have no idea.

Also noticed some adhesive oozing out of the board on the side of the power plugs.

Other Thoughts: RMA for this card.

5 out of 5 eggsFast card

Pros: I played old games. BF2, BF 1942, Doom 3,Half life 2, TF 2, Quake 4. My games is smoother and faster. I love it. I have yet to try new games like Crysis. I upgraded from x850xt.

Cons: Radeon 5870 is out & available. If i'm you I will buy the 5870. As fast as the 4870 x2 but w/ newer tech.

Other Thoughts: My new system: Core i7 920 oc to 3.3, corsair 6 gb 1600, raptor 300 gb, asus p6t deluxe, cm atcs 840, pc/power cooling 910 w, xfi, 27 inch hanns g. Love it

1 out of 5 eggsToo Bad!!!

Pros: This card has a great design.

Cons: Runs really hot!

Other Thoughts: To Fix the heat issue:
On the card itself is a little wire harness with a black, red, yellow, and a blue wire plugged into it. 4 wires total going directly to the cooling fan. unplug the little harness and pull the clip harness from the card and remove the yellow and blue wires from the clip. These two wires allow the card and computer to control the fan speed Which is only about 60 rpm. The red and black wires allow direct power with no speed control which allows the fan to run full speed all of the time and keep the card cool.
