It’s amazing how much performance persistent engineers can tweak out of video cards these days. While the GeForce 8800GTX cards are eating up the competition, its junior partner ain’t doing so bad, either. EVGA brings us a lively 8800 GT KO model that may demonstrate memory and stream processor figures lower than its big brothers, the 880GTX and Ultra, but performs at frame rates and speeds that belie its lower price.

HOT Card
- Pros: Super video performance - Rolls through Crysis demo on high detail. Crysis IS the test for the moment. Nothing out there is going to touch an 8800GT for performance at the moment. Smokes 7950 SLI in the demo performance.
- Cons: Only one con - but a major one - Heat sink design. HOT! HOT! HOT! Fan never really spins anywhere near it's potential. Reference single slot design is just not adequate. Read the reviews elsewhere. Stock cooler doesn't even cover all the power chips. The card was over 195 degrees F before I realized it! (Small case) Not only is it insufficient, but it blows half the air the into a virtual dead end of the bracket. Don't even think of doing these in an SLI arrangement where the slots are right next to each other without major air flow.
- Other Thoughts: Change the cooling! It really stinks you have to go spend another $50 on a cooling solution that will be adequate on a card you are already spending $300 on. If you don't - lifetime warranty or not - this card will not last. I dropped my core temps to about 135F with the change.
Are you kidding me??
- Pros: One of the best video card releases in years. I ordered this minutes after it was available. I have an 8600GTS and benchmarks show this will almost double my 3dmark06 score from 6000 almost to 12000.
Powerful while consuming little power from PSU, and costs less than a weaker 8800GTS. Two in SLI costs less than an 8800GTX, while having better performance.
- Cons: Almost none.....
Wanted an SSC, but it was a little more than I was willing to pay for the little increase over this one.
- Other Thoughts: The perfect GPU for everyone.

Awesome card
- Pros: Awesome card...put it in a new system (EVGA 680i motherboard, soon-to-be-upgraded to a 780i, 2GB RAM, Q6600 Quad-core) and it's blazin' fast.
- Cons: None
What a stocking stuffer!
- Pros: Unreal card for the price. I actually got the 650MHz version for 289, but it must have sold out just after & now is not even listed, wow they are flying off the shelves, huh. I had a 7900 GS 256MB and it was fine for medium game settings in most stuff, now I can Max out in most everything. Oh, check this out, I installed 3DMark06 just to check before & after. I went from 4950 to 12190....incredible with just that one upgrade (E6420 CPU & 3GB RAM, XP Pro). Came with Enemy Territory QW...can't beat that (already bought Crysis on sale @39)
- Cons: Just the availability basically. The new 169.21 Forceware eVGA drivers are supposed to fix the low fan speed bug. I installed RxxxTuner just to be on the safe side.
- Other Thoughts: Fast shipping as usual. Less than 5 days to the east coast. Got it the day before Christmas, so the timing was perfect, as was the gift ;)
What an upgrade!
- Pros: I upgraded from (yes, begin laughing) a Radeon 9800 PRO 256mb that I've had for over 3 years. There is no real way to make a comparison because of advancements in technology, but this thing is faster then I'd of imagined for the price.
- Cons: The card runs HOT HOT HOT, but by grabbing nTune or a similar program you can up the default fan speed (which is lower than 30% of max) to about 66% and still not feel like you have a jet engine in your room, plus it drops about 12º off the core temp.
- Other Thoughts: For the price to performance ratio, I couldn't recommend a GTX over this. It is fast, I pull 125fps in COD4 with AA on and graphics almost maxed. All in all this card is amazing for the money.
