NVIDIA's ninth generation series of graphics cards brings cutting edge technology and advanced capabilities together for best-in-class performance. The 9800GTX is a balanced solution for all your graphic needs. It’s Microsoft Vista ready and equipped with a PCI-Express 2.0 interface for the most up-to-date system. The 9800 supports Quad SLI which more than doubles your performance by running up to four graphics cards for insane flow rates.

The card's core clock runs at 675MHz relieving your CPU of pixel crunching duty. Data surges through the 9800's 128 stream processors which are fed by 512MB of 256-bit 2200MHz GDDR3 memory. Support for DirectX 10, Shader Model 4.0, OpenGL 2.0 and NVIDIA's PureVideoHD render even the most intense environmental effects, heavy shading, multiple light sources, or HD DVD video with brilliant clarity.

Twin dual-linked DVI and 400 MHz RAMDAC lets you display 2560 x 1600 resolution video and graphics on even the largest monitors, or output to other video displays via the S-Video and HDTV connectors for maximum flexibility. The 9800 delivers fluid frame rates and HD video with solid performance at a price that'll still leave money in your pocket.

  • newegg NVIDIA Unified Architecture with GigaThread Technology The fully-unified shader core dynamically allocates processing power to geometry, vertex, physics and pixel shading operations, delivering incredibly true-to-life 3D graphics. In addition, the massively multi-threaded architecture supports thousands of independent, simultaneous threads, providing extreme processing efficiency in advanced, next generation shader programs.
  • newegg NVIDIA HybridPower Technology Designed for PC enthusiasts and hard-core gamers, HybridPower Technology switches graphics processing from the GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card to your motherboard GeForce GPU when running less graphics-intensive applications for reduced energy consumption, quieter operation, and less heat generation.
  • newegg PCI Express 2.0 Interface The PCI Express 2.0 interface delivers an ultra-high data rate of up to 16GB/s, and is backward compatible with PCI Express x16 (PCI-E 1.0), so you can upgrade the graphics of your existing system with the EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR.
  • newegg NVIDIA SLI Technology With SLI, the GeForce 9800 GTX GPU offers increased performance up to 2X in a dual SLI configuration and up to 2.8X in 3-way SLI mode for no-compromise gaming performance.
  • newegg NVIDIA PureVideo HD Technology The combination of high-definition video decoding acceleration and post-processing delivers unprecedented picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color and precise image scaling for all video content, especially movies.
  • newegg Essential Vista NVIDIA GeForce 9 Series GPUs are essential for accelerating your Windows Vista experience by offering an enriched 3D user interface, increased productivity, vibrant photos, smooth, high-definition videos, and ultra-realistic games.

4 out of 5 eggsGood performance, but too noisy

Pros: Good performance

Cons: Very noisy when playing demanding games

Other Thoughts: I'd suggest buying good speakers or headphones to cover that annoying noise.

5 out of 5 eggsIt had a good run... well done.

Pros: It worked and worked well for what I needed.

I purchased this card so my son could play Bioshock, L4D2, etc .. which it did quite well.

We are not hard core gamers but we were completely satisfied with this card and EVGA.

Noise was much less than I expected and the fan control worked as expected. (i.e. only really turned on during games with advanced graphics)

Power consumption : 95 Watts normal ues / 195 watts during game play

I am pleased with the card and the company, EVGA.

Cons: None ... but the card did fail after 2.5 years (minor) but it is the first graphics card failure in my experience. (built my first PC completely from components in 1995)

Other Thoughts: I recently replaced this card with a EVGA GT 630 1GB DDR3 card because the card's graphics processor stopped worked.

Interesting note : The failure of the graphics processor caused the PC not to sleep according to my power plan. Normal VGA performance continued without any real problem except some erratic flash video playback.

5 out of 5 eggs4 years old and still kickin'.

Pros: Very strong card that has given decent punch ever since its release in 2008. With two way-SLI I am able to run the newly released Guild Wars 2 ( August 2012) with medium settings and still get ~20 FPS. (Low, yes, but it's GW 2...) With Guild Wars 1, however, I was able to hit 1,100+ FPS (I've got screenshots for proof) on max settings.

Best bang for buck you could get back then, and still a great investment if you can grab one somewhere and if you intend to do light gaming with modern games.

Cons: Very huge. Make sure you have a lot of room to put this baby in. Also, this card (especially if you have two) will essentially turn your room into a sauna. The entire second floor of my house gets super heated and my family always complains about it, haha.

Other Thoughts: I've had this card since 2008 when it first released and have had these puppies in SLI ever since. However, this morning I finally decided that it was time to let go and I bought me a new rig set-up from Newegg (GTX 670 FTW as the GPU). I have been nothing but happy with these cards and they have lasted me for the last 4 years, perfectly. I could not have made a better investment.

Pros: Still using this thing. It's been in three different towers over the past 3 years and has been working great.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked well for the first year or so. Still able to chug along on battlefield 3.

Cons: Just broke down on me today. Black screen. I opened up my case to see if it is the dust or anything else inside that might have caused it. Nothing out of the ordinary. The life expectancy of this card is no good. Don't buy it unless you plan on replacing it before 2 year is up.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry to hear you are not able to get any output from the card. I can recommend testing the card in another slot, or with another power supply to confirm the issue follows the card. Please contact our 24/7 technical support (888)-881-3842 for further troubleshooting steps or to setup a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: I started out with one of these two years and added a second one on SLI 6 months later. These have run flawless for the entire time. I play WOW and even now (2012) I can run in Ultra at about 45 FPS, 50-55 on high and maintains 60 on medium (Anything higher than 60 your eyes wouldn't be able to tell the difference)

Cons: Heats a small office. Not so sold on SLI. The majority of motherboards, especially when I built my PC, will support PCIe X16 on two slots but running in SLI they drop down down to X8. This limits your gain you would get running both at X16. I know it's the limitation of the MB but my gain was only about 20%. Next time I'll stick with a single more powerful card.

Other Thoughts: There are mixed reviews about all Evga video cards and of course they have their occasional DOA stuff but overall the quality and reliability is top notch. When it's time to upgrade, probably the first of next year (my PC is now 4 years old) it's going to have another Evga card in it. Most likely the GTX 680 when they get all the bugs worked out and the motherboards support it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Budget Card

Pros: Cheap
Reliable
Fast

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Has been a reliable card. Plays everything I throw at it. Obviously doesn't perform as well as high end cards, but it also doesn't cost as much as those cards.

1 out of 5 eggsThis thing has massive problems

Pros: well.. It worked just fine for a year.

Cons: Randomly causes the screen to go black, and bricks the computer. Reboot temporarily fixes it. Nvidia doesn't seem to offer any support on the issue. So, don't put this card in your pc.

Other Thoughts: Last time I buy nvidia.

Pros: -Quality product
-Reliable
-Fairly quiet

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The card is a bit large and may cover up your other expansion slots. Great card that runs everything I throw at it.
