NVIDIA's ninth generation series of graphics cards brings cutting edge technology and advanced capabilities together for best-in-class performance. The 9800GTX is a balanced solution for all your graphic needs. It’s Microsoft Vista ready and equipped with a PCI-Express 2.0 interface for the most up-to-date system. The 9800 supports Quad SLI which more than doubles your performance by running up to four graphics cards for insane flow rates.

The card's core clock runs at 675MHz relieving your CPU of pixel crunching duty. Data surges through the 9800's 128 stream processors which are fed by 512MB of 256-bit 2200MHz GDDR3 memory. Support for DirectX 10, Shader Model 4.0, OpenGL 2.0 and NVIDIA's PureVideoHD render even the most intense environmental effects, heavy shading, multiple light sources, or HD DVD video with brilliant clarity.

Twin dual-linked DVI and 400 MHz RAMDAC lets you display 2560 x 1600 resolution video and graphics on even the largest monitors, or output to other video displays via the S-Video and HDTV connectors for maximum flexibility. The 9800 delivers fluid frame rates and HD video with solid performance at a price that'll still leave money in your pocket.

  • newegg NVIDIA Unified Architecture with GigaThread Technology The fully-unified shader core dynamically allocates processing power to geometry, vertex, physics and pixel shading operations, delivering incredibly true-to-life 3D graphics. • newegg NVIDIA HybridPower Technology Designed for PC enthusiasts and hard-core gamers, HybridPower Technology switches graphics processing from the GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card to your motherboard GeForce GPU when running less graphics-intensive applications for reduced energy consumption, quieter operation, and less heat generation.
  • newegg PCI Express 2.0 Interface The PCI Express 2.0 interface delivers an ultra-high data rate of up to 16GB/s, and is backward compatible with PCI Express x16 (PCI-E 1.0), so you can upgrade the graphics of your existing system with the EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR.
  • newegg NVIDIA SLI Technology With SLI, the GeForce 9800 GTX GPU offers increased performance up to 2X in a dual SLI configuration and up to 2.8X in 3-way SLI mode for no-compromise gaming performance.

4 out of 5 eggs5 Years

Pros: This card ran almost 24/7 for me for over 5 years. I can say it continued to play games until I decided I needed to upgrade.

Cons: Very loud, lots of crashes and screen tearing (few times a day in an 8 hour day of gaming).

Other Thoughts: Was nice to get a solid card.

You can't buy this card here anymore, but hey, a reviews a review!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card but didn't last long.

Pros: This card was great for the time. Not sure why I'm reviewing it almost five years later but why not! Was a beastly thing, that looked sweet and performed as advertised.

Cons: Mine happened to die a few days after my warranty expired. They were nice enough to still send me a replacement. The replacement card was a newer model and had 1GB of RAM so that was nice. I'm not downgrading it because everything can fail. And I had it hooked up to two monitors so I'm sure it just overheated. Was happy with this card and am happy with the replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps on going and going and going

Pros: I have owned this card for 4+ years. This card is like the energizer bunny. It just keeps going and going and going and going...

The card was easy to install. My mobo recognized it right away.

I never needed to return the card or access the EVGA warranty. Although I did purchase this from EVGA because they had the best and longest warranty.

The card has run everything that I have thrown at it over the years from the Quake and Doom series to the most current FPS like Battlefield 3.

Currently running Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, RIFT, and Battlefield 3 on a regular basis. Of course not on the highest settings. I run most of these games on mid to high level settings.

I rarely have problems with frames per second. I have never needed to overclock this card; however, I may do a little overclocking to the card since it's on its way out.

I do run Adobe CS4 on my computer with 4GB of RAM on Windows 32bit. The only slow down I experience is when I am opening a large photo or image in Photoshop. The load times seem a little bit long, but I chalk this up to the fact that I'm running on a 32bit platform with only 4GB of RAM and a 2.66 standard quad core processor with no overclocking.

Cons: Few cons:
1. Fan is loud under load (sounds like a jet engine whirl)
2. Takes up 2 slots
3. Long PCB (not recommended for Micro or Mini ATX cases)

Other Thoughts: The cons are VERY easily forgotten considering how well this card has performed over the years.

With the upcoming release of Battlefield 4 and Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn on the horizon I am planning on phasing this card out and replacing it with an EVGA 02G-P4-2663-KR GeForce GTX 660 FTW Signature 2 2GB. I hope this replacement card can live up to its predecessor and give me many years of reliable usage.

Thank you EVGA for producing a great product and providing great warranty options.

Thank you Newegg.com for the fast shipment and great pricing.

4 out of 5 eggsGood performance, but too noisy

Pros: Good performance

Cons: Very noisy when playing demanding games

Other Thoughts: I'd suggest buying good speakers or headphones to cover that annoying noise.

5 out of 5 eggsIt had a good run... well done.

Pros: It worked and worked well for what I needed.

I purchased this card so my son could play Bioshock, L4D2, etc .. which it did quite well.

We are not hard core gamers but we were completely satisfied with this card and EVGA.

Noise was much less than I expected and the fan control worked as expected. (i.e. only really turned on during games with advanced graphics)

Power consumption : 95 Watts normal ues / 195 watts during game play

I am pleased with the card and the company, EVGA.

Cons: None ... but the card did fail after 2.5 years (minor) but it is the first graphics card failure in my experience. (built my first PC completely from components in 1995)

Other Thoughts: I recently replaced this card with a EVGA GT 630 1GB DDR3 card because the card's graphics processor stopped worked.

Interesting note : The failure of the graphics processor caused the PC not to sleep according to my power plan. Normal VGA performance continued without any real problem except some erratic flash video playback.

5 out of 5 eggs4 years old and still kickin'.

Pros: Very strong card that has given decent punch ever since its release in 2008. With two way-SLI I am able to run the newly released Guild Wars 2 ( August 2012) with medium settings and still get ~20 FPS. (Low, yes, but it's GW 2...) With Guild Wars 1, however, I was able to hit 1,100+ FPS (I've got screenshots for proof) on max settings.

Best bang for buck you could get back then, and still a great investment if you can grab one somewhere and if you intend to do light gaming with modern games.

Cons: Very huge. Make sure you have a lot of room to put this baby in. Also, this card (especially if you have two) will essentially turn your room into a sauna. The entire second floor of my house gets super heated and my family always complains about it, haha.

Other Thoughts: I've had this card since 2008 when it first released and have had these puppies in SLI ever since. However, this morning I finally decided that it was time to let go and I bought me a new rig set-up from Newegg (GTX 670 FTW as the GPU). I have been nothing but happy with these cards and they have lasted me for the last 4 years, perfectly. I could not have made a better investment.
