The GeForce 8 series offers a complete family of graphic cards ready to meet the unique needs of their users. The series features a unified DirectX 10 Shader Model 4.0 & Open GL 2.0 architecture to produce stunning 3-dimensional graphics and textures. With 10-bit per channel output, the 8 series produces higher fidelity color and separation. The cards support SLI and NVIDIA's PureVideo HD.

The 8800GT gives solid response and delivers blistering video and graphic performance while remaining cool under fire thanks to the AKIMBO embedded improved cooling system. Its 754 million transistors can handle anything your games throw at it – and with reduced energy requirements. Accelerated processors offer faster video and other high-demand graphic effects.

112 stream processors are fed by 512MB of 256-bit GDDR3 SDRAM running at 1800MHz to deliver a full 2560 x 1600 resolution. The 600MHz core clock keeps everything moving and the 400MHz RAMDAC and twin dual-linked DVI let you output to multiple and large monitors. Video can also be streamed via the HDTV or S-Video outputs for greater flexibility. The 8800GT hits the mark for price while delivering high-end graphic performance.

  • newegg NVIDIA Unified Architecture with GigaThread Technology The fully-unified shader core dynamically allocates processing power to geometry, vertex, physics and pixel shading operations, delivering incredibly true-to-life 3D graphics. 5 out of 5 eggsBest thing I've ever bought

Pros: I have had this card since 2008. It is now 2013. It has lasted through two CPUs, two motherboards, two sets of RAM, three PSUs and probably 10 installs of Vista and then 7. I even bought a card to replace it two years ago (A 650 something, I think) that died from underpowering (my bad!). I didn't have the cash to upgrade again, so it went back in.

I have played every game I've bought with this card. The only ones it's had trouble with were Crysis and Crysis Warhead, which I had to run windowed at 1024X768.

EVERY other game I have ever played has been stellar. I might not be playing it on the highest settings, but I don't care as long as I can play it, and I never turn the settings below medium. That includes games like Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, Supreme Commander 2- all at 1080p (and in SC2s case, on two screens).

I regularly play a game on one screen and netflix on the other with no lag or stutter.

It is quiet enough, quieter than my case fans.

EVGA makes a great product. I actually will keep this card for a long time just for sentimental value long after it is replaced.

Cons: None. I mean, it's a lower level card from more than 5 years ago and it still plays all the games I play at maximum resolution with NO problems ever.

Other Thoughts: This may be a useless review, but I don't even care- this has been the longest lasting part of this current computer other than the case.

5 out of 5 eggsWay, Way Too F A S T!!!

Pros: Bought this card without fully understanding what it was I was getting. This card is a little overclocked by EVGA and it is screaming fast. From opening the package to installation took about 2 minutes. Newegg and UPS delivery was also fast, but not as fast as this card.

Cons: No demos or demo games on the enclosed CR-ROM.

Other Thoughts: Be advised - this video card is very, very fast and will meet all of your current and probably most future needs. This card is probably too much (fast and powerful) for me at this time, but the price was right. Also, please note that this card is BIG! You will need at least 9 - 10 inches long and 2 slot widths to fit this card into your system. Great card, but you will need lots of room for it to fit.

5 out of 5 eggsQuite the bang

Pros: Quite the cards, to be honest. After some driver updates and a quick configuration of settings, I fired up some of the usuals for visual tests... Oblivion, WoW (in the new PTR with the advanced graphics features now available) Crysis, and also Bioshock. I purchased two, as this implies, and SLI mode with these could not have been simpler.

Cons: None. Worth the price over anything new. Purchase two and SLI them for more of a bang.

Other Thoughts: Overclocked both cards to 750mhz and both are stable without any problems. Some folks were having problems with SLI'd 8800gt cards and WoW, but that's an in-game issue only. There are settings to get around the problems for the most part.

In any event, over clocking was easy, and a breeze. Enabling SLI was also a breeze. The new beta drivers for the cards are wonderful, and are highly compatible with everything I've tried to throw at them so far.

As another side note, the cards are a good inch and a half longer than my previous 320MB 8800gts from EVGA. While my case has plenty of room (Antec Twelve Hundred) the motherboard (Asus WIFI overclockers board) had the SATA ports on the board almost directly behind the secont PCI-E port. Made for a tight squeeze to get the card in there and still have working harddrives.

3 out of 5 eggsFollow Up

Pros: Akimbo cooler is quiet up until %80 fan speed and cools quite well. Clocks very well and handles load.

Cons: Card died on me out of no where. I guess i'm not that upset since i paid $7.99 for the premium ear and evga ships new card ups ground and provide return shipping label at no cost.

Other Thoughts: for the reviewer who complained about paying for shipping, for $7.99 when you register the card, you could have gotten a better rma program. next time i'll pay $11.99 and evga will ship 2nd business day and provide free return shipping. That's cheap for a process like this.
Becareful if you plan on doing SLI. card has backplate that may take up extra space.

5 out of 5 eggsNice card

Pros: There is enough heat in the case and adding more isn't my idea of component happiness. Finding a "stock" card that had heat sinks and exhaust venting is what attracted me. As a direct comparison to the EVGA 512-P3-N801 (Which I also have) the temp difference between them is 10C. This one runs Folding @ Home 24/7 and seldom goes higher than 62C when ambient is 82F. Fan is quiet too but you'll hear when you adjust it above 70%.

Cons: It is a big card so make sure you have sufficient clearance behind and to the side. It won't fit on my 939 system that has a passive heat sink on the northbridge. Some mobo's there may be SATA blockage so check there.

Other Thoughts: If you have the space available, the few bones more for this over the 512-P3-N801 makes the Akimbo a winner. Why buy aftermarket heat sinks when this one has it stock and cools well.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly satisfying

Pros: Excellent operation, no glitches, bugs, overheating, etc. I haven't given it the Crysis test yet but everything else I've run with it has gone beautifully.

Cons: A bit long, a bit loud. The length and width are unfortunate with my mobo as it obscures not only an otherwise-useful PCIx port, but makes some SATA heads hard to get at as well. This hasn't been an actual problem to date, fortunately, only a potential issue in the future.

Other Thoughts: I have no regrets or problems. I might even buy another and go SLI one of these days.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome video card

Pros: Great card. Runs all my games awesome on full settings. Cools awesome, I would recommend this to any gamer.

Cons: The fan is a little loud in comparison with my case fans, but isn't terrible or anything.

5 out of 5 eggsCool Fast Card

Pros: It is definitely faster than my 8600GT and a lot "cooler" - temperature and looks. 2-3 times faster than it, I hope it will be more stable too. You can control the fan on this thing or even overclock it, by using the EVGA Precision Control tool (get it from the website) You can keep the temperatures in the low 40 C if you increase the fan speed, even on auto it still lingers around there - compared to the 8600GT and its 60C - a lot of driver errors.

Cons: Its too big - long and wide and fat. Had to move around some cables. (That's it for now.)

Other Thoughts: The price was very good too - 110$ *including shipping* for this is just a bargain.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me!

Pros: I've been overclocking this card from the MSI Core Control software that came with MoBo. Running the Folding@Home GPU script I can stabily run this card about 15-20% faster RAM and GPU speed. Temp gets close to 140F when pushed. My Acer 22" LCD seams a lot sharper now than with my 6yr old ATI card.

Cons: Made mistake with build...flip flopped on the MoBo choice at the last minute and overlooked/confused the fact that MSI P45 Platinum supports Crossfire and not SLI. So my plan to upgrade to a second 8800GT later won't work...My fault!!

Other Thoughts: Q9550, MSI P45 Platinum H.C.(w/V1 cooler), 4GB OCZ DDR2800, WD Caviar SE Raid 5 drives, 8800 GT Akimbo, Vista Ultimate 64, Antec AE650 PSU, Antec Three Hundred Case
