XFX 8800GTS
- Pros: **REVIEW OF XFX BRAND! SAME CHIP**
I got the XFX 8800GTS 640MB. It has the same cooler/chip board, etc, exept it has more ram.
The blower is silent. Performance on 3DMark scored slightly less than a 9600GT 512MB, but this card beats the 9600 when both are overclocked to the max. This is the old G80 chip! Performance is roughly 20% less than the G92 512MB version, but for $80, its a no-brainer.
- Cons: It IS 90nm, and so runs hotter than my 9600.
- Other Thoughts: Perfect for a budget gaming rig. Remember, this used to cost, like $350.
Bought as gift
- Pros: I bought this for my brother-in-law. So I can't say anything much regarding this besides he commenting that he can now play games sooo much better..
- Cons: None that I know.
Buy It While You Can
- Pros: great card, two slots keep it cool, blower can be made faster or slower depending on conditions, cool running ie. 70C FULL LOAD folding gpu workunits @ ~3000 ppd.using evga precision can be overclocked for many more pointage. does not use a lot of power. runs cool.
- Cons: ummmmmmm. . . . . . doesn't get up and cook breakfast in the morning. i like the word pointage :)
