This guy does it all!
- Pros: Fast, handles everything I throw at it (Crysis, World at War, Gears of War, Fallout 3) maxxed on a 19" monitor, not a hiccup one. Just picked a 24" monitor so I can push things harder. Put this guy in a Core i7 920, EVGA X58 Classified mobo (NF200), 6GB Dominator mem. It screams (literally)! Also, the stability issues that require you to underclock the card that the previous reviewer had mentioned don't apply to this card. It's the new 2GB model that is having that issue, from what I've seen at EVGA's forums. If you get this card, you can rest assured it's solid (and comes with a lifetime warranty, just don't forget to register with EVGA).
- Cons: Well... it screams! It's not that bad, and I never notice it when I'm occupied with all the pretty colors it puts out. But it definitely has a noticeable whine if your paying attention.
Also a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
- Other Thoughts: Great card. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Have yet to overclock anything in my system as it handles EVERYTHING (even multiple everythings) without sweating it. Perhaps in a year I'll put an OC on things, but it's totally unnecessary at this point.
excellent professional support
- Pros: good technical support and professional response from EVGA. Called the number person when I couldn't figure out the HDMI sound was not outputting to the TV. professional response. Issue turned out to be between the computer and the keyboard but person still willing to listen to all the rant and mumbles and offer good advise
- Cons: None found so far, just make sure you have a mid tower, little too big for smaller cases
- Other Thoughts: happy to own the card, and know that there is support, on the contrary I called the MB support on the same issue that the spdif sound does not work because I can't hear sound out of the HDMI, they just plainly blame it on the card is not good, not even attempted to trouble shoot anything.... at one point even blame it on the memroy sticks caused this issue. W T F is what I said ... try call Asus support on P6T6 WS sound driver issue. or maybe it was me who got the left over of the bad tech support.
Not Stable in Base Configuration
- Pros: Good graphics
- Cons: It'll be unstable in its base configuration. If you don't believe me, google "Nvidia GTX 285 crash".
In order to fix it, you have to underclock it underneath what it was originally released at. I'm not sure if its the memory clock or the core clock that is going unstable, but I lowered them both to 617 and 1150 respectively and haven't had a problem.
This card also gets amazingly hot during use. Probably won't have a good lifetime.
