3 out of 5 eggsOK utility card

Pros: Reasonable cost. Does not need a fan. No problem with Windows XP, Socket-A system. Display on CRT monitor at 1600x1200 looks fine.

Cons: Lackluster performance.

Other Thoughts: 3DMark2001SE with Athlon 2200 system is 7,254 with higher res scenes pushing frame rate down to 16. The dead Sapphire Radeon 1650 DDR3 card it is replacing could do about 12,600. An FX5600 card in the same system will do a little over 6,200.

Heat sink during the benchmark got only mildly warm to touch. Doubtful it exceeded 40C, so heat should be no problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Please keep in mind that this card is not designed for high end graphical performance. It is meant for desktop applications.

Thank you,
Brandon B

5 out of 5 eggsGreat EVGA product

Pros: Easy setup, driver installation, and operation. Plenty fast for most applications - just know it is old technology and probably won't run the latest and greatest games. It will, however, revive your old PCs and make them useful again. Drivers are easy to find on EVGA's web site and there are drivers for XP, Vista and Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit). You can even do a clean install and remove all previous driver remnants. Fanles is a big plus since thee's 1 less thing to break.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've built many machines for folks who can't afford newest technology - and upgraded components for them over many years. These vid cards have gone the distance. Many of those machines - along with a couple I have at home - still have AGP MBs and various operating systems. I finally had one of these fail - in a PC I built many years ago - and it had been used before that.

3 out of 5 eggs2002 Dell Dimension upgrade

Pros: It works just fine, and is a major upgrade in connectivity and support than the RAGE 32mb previously in this system. It now runs Windows 7 just fine and with a MIR, I got this card for like $20. This system is a backup upgraded to some level of usability with Windows 7 Home Premium for my parents. Spent about $100 total and it's now a largely operational, albeit slow, computer.

Cons: I think the 2.0GHz P4 single core CPU still majorly bottlenecks this system, as YouTube videos are choppy even at only 480p. It can play local video files okay, but not really HD. Even in the couple of years I've owned it, VLC has updated and improved performance, though. Some more tinkering and I may be able to leverage the GPU some more, but the 64-bit interface probably doesn't help.

Other Thoughts: At $20, it was probably worth it. At $43? Not really, at least not on my bottlenecked system.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad at all

Pros: A good upgrade for older machines with AGP. Handles 1080 vids quite well and what I needed it for.

Cons: Only 1 year warranty. The screw part of the metal was bent when arrived and why I mention the 1 year warranty and why only 4 eggs.

Other Thoughts: I've noticed that newegg shipping is not as well packed as it used to be. They are however very good about handling stuff like this.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo years - Dual Monitors

Pros: Drives two ACER 22" Monitors in DualView @ 1920x1080
One ACER is connected VGA (KVM) the other DVI
Compatible with XP Pro SP 3

Cons: Had to install and uninstall Nvidia Driver Software twice
CD that came with it was 3 generations behind
Downloaded Nvidia GeForce version 178.24
Could not get GeForce 275.33 to work

Other Thoughts: I have a KVM using the VGA port to switch between two CPUs. Works flawlessly with this card.
I don't play games with this card.
Use it primarily for Excel and Firefox

1 out of 5 eggsDecline

Pros: Newegg packaged my order within hours to be sent to me (60 miles away). I was shocked to see my order status go to filled and ready to be shipped within an hour of my placing order and being billed.

Cons: My order of this card sat untouched in their warehouse awaiting to be shipped for 72 hours. Newegg has never before been this type of company, but clearly their service is declining.

Other Thoughts: The only reason I am awaiting this card, that sat in their warehouse ready to be shipped for 72 HOURS, is that the last card they sent me was defective and I had to eat the shipping to me and the shipping to send it back.

3 out of 5 eggsDied when capacitors blew

Pros: Lasted several years

Cons: Suddenly stopped working, caused POST failure. Upon inspection, found that all but one of the capacitors exploded.

Other Thoughts: Buying $3.50 worth of parts from Mouser Electronics to see if I can keep this dinosaur running.
