5 out of 5 eggsGreat But A Power Hog

Pros: This card always performed well. It remained remarkably capable in new games for at least five years after it was released.

Cons: The thing appears to have no ability to downclock itself or reduce its fan speed to save power and extend its lifespan.
It runs full-speed all the time, whether I'm playing a game or editing a text document.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Was a great video card while it worked.

Cons: All tough broad performed well at first it didn't last. Fan blades came off cooling fan and unit over heated and quit. These happen during use and caused quit a racket. I contacted the manufacturer and they said the unit is not under warranty, although the specifications state a two year limited warranty. I guess manufacturing defects are not included in warranty. I purchased a second card not thru this company so I can't prove where I purchased it from. It had the same problem so I guess I will have to eat both of these. I asked if I could purchase the cooling fan, of which I guess I should have specified the assembly, and was told they didn't sell parts but send the boards in and for 65.00 an hour they would evaluate the boards. I already knew what is wrong with the broads and it would have been my fault if I was wrong. This still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. But alas let the buyer for help.

Other Thoughts: The Company (EVGA) has been very prompt in responses of my request but they seem to lack the ability to want to help the consumer. They will state is company policy but sometimes they could offer a hand.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your 9800 GT. I do see that we did offer to assist you with an Out of Warranty Repair. To clear up any confusion, there is no charge to evaluate the product. Only if you choose to repair the product, would there be a charge and our RMA department would contact you with that information. I would encourage you to please contact our 24 hour Technical Support team by email:, and include the serial number for the graphics card, for further assistance.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Capable of pushing Sound after connecting SDIF connector on MB. Produces great graphics. Very Versitile to the needs of the system environment.

Cons: None currently.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this card for my own complete computer build for a Win 7 x64 build. I use it mostly to play Movies and a few games. I was able to play Skyrim on Top Setting with very little lag or issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Was a very powerful card when it was released and it still holds up well today.
SLI capability
HDMI, D-SUB and DVI ports
Came with an adapter that converts two molex power connectors to a PCI-e power connector (for people who have a sufficiently powerful PSU but no PCI-e power cable attached)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Uses a fair amount of electricity.
Uses two card slot spaces.
Will likely increase your case temperature even though it has its own exhaust port.
Would not work with one of my older (2006) GIGABYTE motherboards. I wasn't able to figure out why (neither was EVGA).
I'm particularly happy because I've always wanted one of these cards and I got it for around $33 (after rebate).

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

Pros: Worked with little effort

Cons: 1) I'm not crazy about the little cooling holes. I prefer that all the vents on my systems have smaller openings.

2) Getting the video just right on my display was a little trickier than I would have expected, but I was able to get it done with a little effort.

Other Thoughts: Takes up 2 spaces in the machine because of the cooling fans. That's pretty normal with higher end video cards I guess.

4 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: This is decent card, I haven't had one second of trouble with it and it has done it's job for the 3 years I've owned it. Tends to run on the cool side.

Cons: Fan noise may be a con for some people, it makes a bit of noise when it's really working hard. I have to go out of my way to notice this, because when it's working hard I am usually playing games.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA GeForce 9800 GT

Pros: EVGA quality
cool & quiet
easy installation

Cons: none to speak of

Other Thoughts: I purchased this card 2/18/2010 and it has been used daily ever since without any performance problems, my pc is only shut down for routine maintenance and an occasional power-outage. After 1-1/2 years of use the fan became loud. I contacted EVGA and a replacement fan wasn't available but they would let me RMA it under warranty. But the card worked so well I didn't want to part with it so I carefully dismantled the fan, cleaned the moving parts and applied a small amount of white lithium grease, reassembled and now, another 1-1/2 later, it's still working well. My youngster plays Pirate101, Wizard101, Diablo 3, Startcraft 2 and WoW-Cata without any problems. I play WoW and get no less than 50-fps when in heavy traffic areas and 80+ elsewhere with most of my game settings on high. Pretty admirable considering my old low-end build;

Foxconn 6150BK8MC-KRSH motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Toledo 2.2GHz Socket 939 89W Dual-Core Processor
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm Ceramic CPU Cooler (overkill for the cpu)
3gb Kingston DDR 400 (2x 1gb and 2x 512mb)
KINGWIN ABT-450MM 450W ATX 12V Ver.2.2 SLI Ready Power Supply
EVGA GeForce 9800 GT HDMI 1GB 256-bit DDR3 Video Card (#01G-P3-N988-TR)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Cheap. Plays Skyrim with ease. Does exactly what I need it to.

Cons: Does not support HDMI audio. Does not cook.

Other Thoughts: Would have preferred a better free game than Duke Nukem.
