5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Easy to install (just a few clicks on Ubuntu), runs Minecraft at highest settings at about 90FPS, which is a huge surprise.

Cons: On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being silent and 10 being jet plane, the fan is about a 4. A little loud, but not worth making a fuss over as it keeps everything cool.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because my MOBO didn't include built in graphics, which is fine. I just needed something cheap to hook a monitor to since this PC used as a home server and doesn't need graphics power. This will get the job done no problem!

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: I ordered this for one of my desktops that I just installed an SSD drive and upgraded to Windows 8.1 It works great. Excellent graphics for the money. I am not a gamer and do not know how it would perform under those strains. But video and all else is great. Giving it 4 eggs because the Windows 8 drivers were not on the disc. Not a huge deal as the Vista drivers will work and you can download the 8 drivers from the EVGA website.

Cons: None as of now.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use the Vista drivers for 8 then you cannot use the GUI to do it. Go into the directory folder and find the Vista driver and install that way.

1 out of 5 eggsEVGA Geforce 8400GS Update

Pros: easy to install

Cons: Just got off phone with EVGA Tech support. After reading all the reviews here I bought this card to replace onboard video, bad move. The tech told me to download a program that cleans out all video drivers both the onboard intel and the drivers for the NVidia card, which I did, bad move my display crashed. Called Tech support again and was told, that this card isn't for playing games, only games like Sims. This even though all the tech info on the NVidia site says BFBC2 can be played with this card.
I just finished reinstalling my Intel drivers, and uninstalling all the card drivers. I'm sorry EVGA but this card is being returned, and may I suggest your first line tech support people need some training. I am not impressed with their service.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Stewart P,

I do apologize for any troubles you experienced calling our Technical Support line. I can assure you that our team is very knowledgeable in regards to our products and are here to assist you with any questions you may have with any EVGA product. The GeForce 8400 graphics card is considered an entry level graphics card which was first released back in 2007. In a gaming scenario where the amount of graphics memory and performance play a key role in giving you the best experience possible, the 8400 GS may not be the best choice. It is meant to be used as an onboard replacement or to achieve a dual monitor set up for a workstation. We do offer a wide range of different graphics cards to fit any customer needs. Should you or any potential EVGA customer ever have any questions about any of our products, then I would encourage you to contact our 24 hour Presales Support team by phone 1.888.881.3842 and pressing option 3 or by email: Newegg@EVGA.com so that we can further assist you.

2 out of 5 eggsEVGA GeForce 8400GS

Pros: Looks good, easy to install .. but

Cons: It seems this card isn't the only GeForce card with this black screen problem according to all the forums I've read.
I've spent most of the afternoon trying fixes I've found, the only one that works is changing the DXVersion from auto to 9 in the game settings. this allows me to play but I loose 2 inches on both the left and right side of the screen. if this is the only way the card will allow play then I'll be returning it to Newegg.

Other Thoughts: I've checked with NVidia concerning the compatibility of Battlefield Bad Company 2, it' passed. Then I checked my computer build, it surpassed all requirements of NVidia.

3 out of 5 eggsEVGA GeForce 8400GS

Pros: It's quiet, easy to install

Cons: Won't play the game I bought it for, Battlefield Bad Company 2. It loads the main screen but when the game logs on to a game server I get a black screen. Tried it on War Craft, same problem.

5 out of 5 eggsBig bang...little bucks

Pros: First off, its easy on the wallet, and secondly it performs considerably better than you would expect. Fan isn't loud, installation was a breeze, takes up minimal space for a Graphics card. What more could you want for the $30 range? If you have an outdated PC and you want to upgrade your video, this is the card to do it. I put this on a M2n68-LA Ivy GL6 board that was utilizing the onboard graphics and the windows experience score jumped 3pts. Not bad for $30. Works just fine for me.

Cons: Haven't found any so far. I know its not a $500 card so I don't expect it to behave like one.

Other Thoughts: If you want more than what this card offers you have to pay more $$...people who have complained about it not having this or not having that aren't considering its a $30 card. Sure its not the goto card for highend gaming, nor is the card for complicated 3d modeling work environments, but for the average PC user this is a good upgrade for older desktops especially anyone still using onboard graphics.

5 out of 5 eggsUse these all the time

Pros: We have found that for most people, even some gamers, the amount of memory and performance from this card gives them what they need.

Cons: Once in a while the card can be difficult for some motherboards to find. We have had to install the drivers first.

Other Thoughts: Yes, this card is great for the price. The performance of the card is adequate.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Budget Card

Pros: Price, Functionality, Dependability

I have had this card for over a year, and so far it has been perfect!
I put together a media center style PC to watch Netflix, Hulu, DVD, and Bluray Movies without having to switch between devices.

I have always been a AMD/Radeon supporter, but this card has impressed me.

Installation was a breeze, and the DVI and HDMI work great. Picture is always clear on 1080p and no hangs or freezes.

It even runs games like Dragon Age, Guild Wars (1&2), CounterStrike Source, older Need For Speed games, lower settings of course, but as much as me and the wife game together, its not that big of a deal.

All in all, its a great buy, and a performer. Buy it!

Cons: None to speak of.

Other Thoughts: Always great shipping and service from Newegg! Keep up the good work!
