2 out of 5 eggsSo So cheap video card

Pros: works

Cons: runs extremely air system...cant hardly touch the heatsink it runs so hot...may not keep in my high end custom built system...needed cheap card for temp replacement of Radeon 200 series R9 that I've had for a coupla years and it flaked out and was more AMD cards for me..this card seems to work well just runs so hot, cant chance screwing up the rest of my i7 system over a graphics card so I'll be looking for another one...Nvidia for sure...not so sure about EVGA
Fair Warning ....CHEAP CARD = HOT HEATSINK...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat basic card

Pros: Great basic fanless cards. Low cost, easy drivers esp Linux compatibility way back to old versions. Good performance for everything but games. I have about 20 of them deployed and they are all great.

Cons: non

5 out of 5 eggsGood, Compact Card

Pros: Quick install, solid EVGA construction and engineering, cool running, low profile, small heatsink. Passive cooling quietness. Latest geforce drivers compatible. Inexpensive.

Cons: Some dropped frames with GTA5 .....nah just kidding. Seriously, no cons.

Other Thoughts: Needed an inexpensive passively-cooled card with a small heatsink for an HTPC. On the G45M board, the single PCI--E x 1 slot is very close to the x16 slot, making use of the x1 nearly impossible with regular graphics cards installed. The slim heatsink on this model allowed just enough room to run a USB 3.0 add-on card on the old dinosaur mobo. Of course being an EVGA (only graphics cards I buy nowadays) made the choice easy.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA does NOT cut corners

Pros: No sound.
It's EVGA...
Very expensive heat sink grease is used on EVGA products from the factory.
Works well in the older equipment I need these for.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: EVGA has proven to me to be the better management team. They don't cut corners. For instance, I was testing 4 different cards from 4 different major Mfg's for the school district. I installed one of the cards and then noticed that it was running a bit warm. So I decided to look at the heat sink grease to see if maybe they didn't get enough on there or something. The grease was the brown type, cracked and dry.
So I decided to look at all the cards heat sink grease, EVGA was the only one that was not dry and cracked. It was the expensive silver type grease. Nice. I have bought nothing but EVGA since then.

If they put expensive grease on these cheaper cards, then surely they must put the same or better on their expensive ones. 3 months later I tested that theory and bought a GTX570. Sure enough, it had the nice expensive, thick, silver paste on there.

Way to go EVGA. Your management team is making some very good decisions.

2 out of 5 eggsOk while it lasted

Pros: It lasted a little over a year

Cons: Do not even think about playing any games, this is a business environment card, even video has a tough time on it.
Mine lasted a little over a year before it started locking up the computer, dropping drivers and generally giving up

Other Thoughts: If you need a cheap card and do not plan on keeping it for long, or do not play any games more graphically challenging than Solitaire or Hearts, or you never play HD videos than this is the card for you, all others move along there are better deals out there.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Mark B,

I am sorry to hear that you had a problem with your product and I can confirm that EVGA is here to support you with your 3 year warranty if support is needed. 5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The card is very cheap and it worked right out of the box. Worked but better than the integrated card.

Cons: Heatsink can get a little hot but it doesn't seem to affect it. It's not a gaming card so don't expect it to be a high performer.

5 out of 5 eggsNice :)

Pros: 1. Cheap after rebate I got with it
2. Small GPU
3. Awesome name brand
4. HDMI which is a must for me
5. Great for a media center
6. No fan meaning its dead silent which is great.
7. Heatsink works awesome and keeps the card cool.
8. Its Nvidia! :D :D
9. Newegg has amazing service like always!!

Cons: 1. The Geforce drivers are a complete pain to get to work for this card. (See other thoughts).

Not worth taking an Egg as I understand drivers can be a pain in the rear for some people while others have no issues. Just depends.

I have many years of experience with system building so I understand how PC parts can be a pain in the rear sometimes :) :)

Other Thoughts: Like MANY others on these reviews and around forums on different websites I am having nasty problems getting the actual GPU driver to work with the card. I have tried the 326.80 drivers all the way up to the 334.89 and no luck, same issues and system lock up. I will not give up!! :) Not sure why so many people and myself are having issues with these drivers for this card. I have reformatted and disabled everything I could to get these drivers installed, no luck yet. I am almost outta options and might end up sending it back as defective if I cannot get it to go. Haven't decided yet.

I have x2 EVGA GTX 780 Ti's and my wife has x2 EVGA GTX 680's and we have zero issues with those cards and their drivers so I was a bit shocked with the issues with this EVGA 8400GS card.

I use the card for our little media center in our living I recently put together. Its perfect for it as I will not be doing any gaming on it so I didn't need a blazing fast card.

The card works without the Geforce drivers from the website. Currently just running the standard Windows 7 x32 drivers. I just like to keep things updated but I might have to just suck it up and deal with the Windows drivers. No biggie :)

I would still recommend this card for the average user wanting to setup a simple media center. Its perfect for it and dirt cheap but just keep in mind the issues many people are having with it.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: As I said.. Dead on Arrival

Cons: Can't really say either but having to pay $10 shipping to replace a $24 card which was DOA does seem rather disappointing to say the least.

Other Thoughts: With down time considered I would rather order a different unit and take the loss on this one.

Manufacturer Response:

Pros: Price

Cons: No better than the integrated graphics. Extremely difficult to install drivers. Absolutely useless tech support.

Other Thoughts: Better buy the less expensive ASUS. It works better.
