The EVGA GeForce GT 640 02G-P4-2645-KR graphics card is designed for the PCs that deserve great graphics. It taps into the powerful next-generation GeForce architecture to deliver premium multimedia performance and reliable entry-level gaming - every time. Insist on EVGA dedicated graphics for faster, more immersive performance in your favorite applications.

  • newegg Kepler GPU Architecture NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.
  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround with Up To three Monitors Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages human peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators.
  • newegg New Anti-aliasing Modes: FXAA Anti-aliasing smoothes out jagged edges but can be demanding on framerates. FXAA is a new antialiasing technology that produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal performance impact. And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • newegg Blu-ray 3D support Connect your PC to any 3D enabled TV over HDMI and enjoy a cinematic 3D experience in your home with seamless support for 1080p Blu-ray 3D discs.
  • newegg NVIDIA PhysX Technology Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology enables a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.

5 out of 5 eggsGood & fast for the price

Pros: Works great. Bluray and digital HD are excellent. Got it for my HTPC i3 system. Didn't need a gamer. Just need something better then onboard graphics. Gotta love EVGA!!! Stick with this brand.

Cons: Would be nice if price was down a bit. Ha.

Other Thoughts: Must install the drivers first before using the HDMI (Mini). Otherwise you will have a blank screen. Had to attach a second screen to my HTPC DVI port for installing drivers. Thought I had a DOA. On a second note. The UPS delivery guy left the package on the sidewalk. About 12 foot from my door. Don't know why he did that. Someone could have taken it.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect middle-of-the-road card

Pros: Very good all-around performance, easy to install, no problems so far.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is the ideal video card for those who want a simple, low-budget, good-performing system. Just don't expect too much from it and you'll be happy. Recommended for 20 in. and/or smaller monitors.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate on no dual DVI-I

Pros: It is probably a fine card.

Cons: The searching mechanism should distinguish between DVI-I and DVI-D. I was looking for a low power, dual-VGA capable, high performance card. I use a KVM switch with VGA for multiple computers used for various purposes and wanted to avoid yet more upgrades.

Other Thoughts: So I was looking for either dual DVI-I or VGA with DVI-I and they look pretty scarce, none that I could find in high performance.

The Radeon 7750 looked ideal as far as relatively high performance and low power, yet it has DVI-D with VGA. None of the even higher performance cards have dual VGA capability either. Some had 1 VGA with 2 DVI-Ds even.

So Newegg made out well, I ordered a GeForce 430 for my current low power build, and a GeForce 550 TI to upgrade an 8800 GTS 320 in another computer. Both cards appear that I can create dual VGA.

3 out of 5 eggsHaven't even received it yet, will have to return it, no dual DVI!

Pros: Wont know, unusable, no true Dual DVI outputs unlike in description

Cons: Description is incorrect, it says 2 DVI outputs, it is really 1 DVI output and 1 DVI-D output.

DVI-D cannot be adapted to VGA, only DVI can. I need 2 DVI outputs for conversion to VGA.
You can see the DVI-D output in the photo, it lacks the 4 pins of the other output.

Other Thoughts: Looks like few current decent performance cards have 2 true DVI outputs. I will have to spend a lot of time searching through the current offerings to find 1 that will work. Radeon 7750 was the other possibility and it has the same problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

The information regarding these DVI ports are labled clearly on the box and in the products specs on the EVGA website.

Thank you,
Brandon B

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for what it is.

Pros: I needed a single slot card for an htpc build and I found this to be the best you can get for that type of card. Takes up very little space with no external power. 2gb of ram is welcomed.

Cons: None really. Maybe a tiny bit expensive. Buy one get one free?!? ; )

Other Thoughts: I decided what the hell, i'll test a few games and see what happens... Well, If you plan to game on this card at 1080 resolutions, good luck with that. 1600x900 on medium to low settings is more ideal. 1280x720 would be your best bet, with Crysis 2 on high settings, 16x texture and 2x AA I get around 40 to 60 fps at 720p. Uses about 98% Of the card. That's with an old Core 2 Quad Q9650. I would say this is equivalent to if not a little better then console graphics. Would buy again.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, not great

Pros: Cheap, easy to install, works well for business and browsing. Very quiet card!

Cons: Not quite as good as I'd hoped. Diablo 3 on max settings has a slight flps lag, though I don't know fps numbers. WoW on ultra is about 25fps max... I expect Skyrim to do a bit better because of the physics engine, but I haven't tested it yet.

Other Thoughts: This card replaced a burned out Radeon HD5670 with 1gig of DDR5. The graphics this card gives in those two games mentioned above are comparable to the 5670 in quality, but not in speed. 5670 would max out WoW at about 37fps with 4x AA. To get that fps from this card I need most settings on 'good' at 1080p, although I can kick the AA up to 16x without much harm.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We generally recommend at least a GTX 650 or higher for strong gaming. The GT 640 is more for media, desktop applications and entry level gaming.

Thank you,
Brandon B

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performance for the price

Pros: This was one of the few places that I intentionally skimped to meet my budget on a new rig for casual gaming. The GT 640 however has certainly not cramped my ability to enjoy my games, either visually or with respect to performance through FPS stability. I play Valve (HL) games + SC2, NS2 & Torchlight II, and can play Valve games at max settings with no FPS drops. I play the rest of my games at high settings with no noticeable or gameplay-inhibiting FPS drops. Visually the experience has been great, and I've remembered that it's half the fun of playing games! Graphics performance scores 7.1 using the Win 7 Assessment Tool. Card runs quiet and cool (not doing any overclocking). Highly recommend for a casual-gaming experience and/or a budget build where this isn't going to be the crown jewel.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: ASRock Z75 Pro3 Motherboard
