5 out of 5 eggsdid NOT bluescreened win8.1

Pros: I earlier wrote a review saying this card bluescreened my server.

Based on their replies to other complaints, I tried a different PCI-E slot and this fixed the problem. (This card was replacing another vid card in my system which had gotten glitchy, and in retrospect the problem may have been the PCI-E slot itself, not my earlier card.)

Anyway they won't let me remove my earlier 1-egg review, so here is a 5-egg one. I'm using this card and it is doing its job.

Cons: Cannot delete/edit a review.

5 out of 5 eggsReplaced a AMD card

Pros: Helped a friend with getting rid of a AMD card with poor support by both AMD and Diamond. The driver keep crashing due to the default speed on GPU. Had to set it to a much lower speed to get it working and lower graphics on some games. So she decided to scrape the AMD card this one fit her budget and gives much better graphics.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: AMD has been dropping in my view of late with poor customer support and service. Diamond may have been the leader in the past, but now stands at the bottom. Putting out a graphics card where you need to lower the rated speed to keep it from crashing is just BAD BAD.....

1 out of 5 eggsbluescreened win8.1

Pros: at least i can return it

Cons: I bought this video card for a Windows 8.1 dev machine with 4 monitors (and 2 vid cards). The previous vid card had died so this was supposed to be a simple cheap "just works" replacement. But my computer constantly bluescreened whenever this card was installed & had a monitor attached. I tried 3 different drivers (default, Windows update, and from included CD). I was just stuck in a bluescreen/reboot loop. I end up wasting over a week ordering & returning something that doesn't work...

4 out of 5 eggsNon-Gaming Media PC

Pros: Capable card, runs cool, not very power hungry, quiet fan, high quality thermal paste used from the factory. EVGA Tech Support very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

Cons: Shipped with defective fan and bent chassis plate; suspected quality control issue.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, the unit arrived damaged. The box was intact, showed no signs of damage or tampering, but upon removing the card from the box, the tab on the rear plate was bent inward at nearly a 45 degree angle. A quick look inside the box showed that the card was put in the box backwards, and was pressed against an inner support structure.

Upon installation, the fan refused to spin up. It would pulse about a quarter rotation every few seconds, but nothing more. Even using EVGA's downloadable software to change the fan speed had no effect.

Immediately contacted EVGA's 24-hour phone support, ran through some troubleshooting to verify the fan was the issue, and received authorization to disassemble the unit to inspect the fan. Upon inspection, I found that the shaft was not properly seated inside the bearing assembly. Cleaned and re-lubricated the bearing, reassembled the fan, put the fan/heatsink unit back on the card with new thermal paste, and the fan works flawlessly.

Idles at ~32C, doesn't get much above ~37C playing 1080p video content. Dual monitor setup run at 1920x1080@60hz on an Intel i7-920 (Socket 1366), 12GB/RAM.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks As Expected

Pros: I bought this as a replacement to extend the life of a Dell XPS Studio 8000. It was a hard decision to find a graphics card to replace the Nvidia 420 that failed about a year ago. Seeing as this was an aging desktop I needed a new budget card, just to use this desktop for average use.

The good about this card is that is relatively high power for being an entry level card. Even a dedicated R5 or R7 can't compare to this card, of course that is before Mantle.

Cons: Air flow is very limited on this device. The fan is low powered and does not do a top notch job of keeping the gpu cool. On idle I am seeing temps as high as 80F, and as high as 145F in moderate use. It may be the dell tower, or the fact that this is being powered by a PCIE 1.0 slot. FOr the temperature issues, I knocked off an egg.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a decent budget card for someone building a system for average use, or for someone looking to extend the life of an aging system. Just be certain there is adequate venting in your system with decent fans, as this card runs HOT.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal Garbage

Pros: If you love Blue Screen Of Death then this card is for you.

Cons: For several months now i have been dealing with the blue screen of death. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, updated all drivers. The problem is random and inconsistent. The last blue screen i got was: nv4_disp / infinite loop. I have owned EVGA products before never hand any issues like this.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the trouble, just save yourself the harassment and get something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
I am sorry to hear you are having troubles with your video card. I confirm that at this point it would be recommended to try the video card in a different PCI-E slot if available. If you should continue to have troubles then please contact our support 24 hour technical support at 1-888-881-3842 option 1 or by email at Newegg@evga.com.
Sincerely,
EVGA Customer Support
