5 out of 5 eggsReview for EVGA GeForce GT 610

Pros: Good price
has 1GB on board DDR3 RAM
Fits into PCI express 2.0 port
Runs fairly quiet
EVGA = good quality name
GeForce = NVidia (I support over AMD, not debating whether which one is better..just that I support Nvidia.
Supports dual screens
Plays and streams HD content without a hiccup (counting that you have the bandwidth from network)
Plays SFIV on lowest setting, how great is that?

Cons: None..really...for the price it's not bad...don't expect high quality gaming or anything of that nature!

Other Thoughts: Got this for an HTPC build. It plays HD content flawless. I also did some minor video editing using a 3rd party program (can't remember the program name). Did a little video with moving pictures and added some music (nothing like Premiere or After Effects).

I also tried Street Fighter IV on it and to my surprise, it played it on the lowest setting (I believe it was 800x600) resolution.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat videocard for adding DVI or HDMI to your rig!

Pros: I got this card at a nice price ($10 off regular price) and it added a DVI (dual-link) and an HDMI port to the video connection capability of a friend's computer. This was my first time dealing with upgrading from a VGA connection to an HDMI connection on an LED backlit LCD TV/Monitor, and this card made it a painless upgrade!

Cons: I was looking for a little more ooomph! in adding this card to a computer whose WEI score was 4.2 in Windows 7's Aero graphics and 3.4 in business and gaming graphics capability. This card only raised the machine's Aero score to 4.3, but improved the 3D gaming and business graphics score to 6.2. Overall improvement in WEI went from 3.4 to 4.3! Not bad at all, but I was looking for a little more. My fault, so not worth taking away an egg for (see Other Thoughts). Note that there was no included driver CD that accompanied this card, but for anyone who has even a smidgen of technical know-how, this should not be a problem as you can always download the most current drivers from EVGA's site or simply go to www.nvidia.com and let it scan and detect the videocard and then you simply download and install the latest drivers from there.

Other Thoughts: This card became an immediate necessity after a complete overhaul of a friend's computer took an unexpected (but ultimately fortuitous) turn. While replacing nearly everything in an old Dell Dimension 3000 computer (with the exception of the two optical drives), and upgrading from Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7 SP1, the old CRT monitor that originally came with the computer finally gave up the ghost in a puff of smoke. My friend then took her grandson out (on Thanksgiving afternoon) to a Black Friday event at the local discount store and scored a beautiful 24" LED backlit LCD TV/Monitor that had a myriad of video and audio connections on it, including (of course) an HDMI connection. One of her old Dell speakers had developed a bothersome crackle in it, so this videocard appeared to be the next logical upgrade that was needed. Once I got the card installed (along with an inexpensive 10' HDMI cable from Rosewill), it was simply a matter of using the monitor's manual to get the HDMI connection to the card properly recognized and the rest was a simple job of installing the proper drivers from the manufacturer's website. The picture and the sound that are sent to the monitor from this card are perfect and crystal-clear. Please note that this card is probably between three and four years old, but it proved to be a great upgrade in this case and was just what the doctor ordered.

2 out of 5 eggsMaybe not for 1440p desktop

Pros: I bought this to hold me over after I sold one setup and prepare for another. I'm actually still using it, but not for much longer.

My issue was my 1440p monitor didn't have a scaler, making compatibility an issue for my specific situation. IGP wasn't going to work (at least through this motherboard). This was the cheapest thing I could find at the time with 2GB - admittedly an arbitrary characteristic I was looking for.

It runs the desktop, in that sense it looks just like the water cooled, reflashed to the brink OC 780ti it replaced (big drop huh). But -

Cons: - It simply doesn't cut it with video. It stutters on youtube randomly, same with movie files (although less). Try running two at once and it gets twice as bad. This is the only thing I was hoping it would do and it just doesn't work very well, at least at this resolution.

Other Thoughts: It's possible, probably very possible, that it's just a defective card, after all it is a refurb GT 610.. though it's seriously hard for me imagine this not being able to drive video on a desktop but it just doesn't. . But it just doesn't.

It is also just too cheap to deal with RMA, at least in the situation I'm using it in. Once I thought of running Heaven for some laughs, but I was worried it might explode so I didn't.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat deal

Pros: Great Price. Plays HD video and decent for video games. I used this for a budget HTPC.

Cons: Not as powerful as other video cards so do not buy this to play modern video games with.

1 out of 5 eggsNot fully working

Pros: Was affordable and at least the DVI port worked

Cons: VGA port did not work. I tried multiple computers and monitors, no joy.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the cost of returning... next time I'm going to stick with new.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for PhysX card

Pros: Affordable
Bus powered
Quiet
Runs cool

Cons: This is a refurbished card, that's why it's so affordable, so there are any extras like low profile brackets or driver discs included. Not really a con but you should know that going in.

Other Thoughts: I got the GT 610 for my primary desktop PC to use as a dedicated PhysX card, running alongside my GTX 660, and so far it's working flawlessly (the sale price and free shipping didn't hurt, either). I've done comparisons in two PhysX heavy games, Batman Arkham City and Alice: Madess Returns, and the improvement is terrific.
Installation was easy and the card doesn't require power other than that provided by the PCIe bus, and the cooling fan is very quiet. Smartfan shows about 40C after some heavy gaming so thermals aren't an issue.
