Step up to the Kepler architecture for amazing graphics performance and power efficiency with the EVGA GeForce GT 640 VGA card. It's based on the industry-leading 28nm technology and provides gorgeous DirectX 11 gaming and HD visuals at an unbeatable price. Hardware accelerated Blu-ray 3D playback enables the EVGA GeForce GT 640 VGA card to render stunning stereoscopic high-definition video with compatible displays and playback software. An array of NVIDIA innovations, such as NVIDIA Surround, NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync and the new FXAA Anti-aliasing Mode offers more than one way to elevate your gaming experience, bringing your entertainment and work to a new level like never before.

  • newegg Kepler GPU Architecture NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.
  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround with Up To Four Monitors Simultaneously drive up to four independent 1080p displays for the ultimate multimedia or productivity workspace and expand a single application across all three displays for an immersive viewing perspective.
  • newegg FXAA AntiAliasing Anti-aliasing smoothes out jagged edges but can be demanding on framerates. FXAA is a new antialiasing technology that produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal performance impact. And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • newegg Blu-ray 3D Support Connect your PC to any 3D enabled TV over HDMI and enjoy a cinematic 3D experience in your home with seamless support for 1080p Blu-ray 3D discs.

4 out of 5 eggsGood little card for Hackintosh build

Pros: When I picked this card up it was for a Hackintosh build for my brother-in-law. Macs run Nvidia cards in their horrendously overpriced systems and I knew I could get this card to work in an inexpensive Hackintosh build. The card installed flawlessly - utilized the Nvidia driver injector and boom - Nvidia powered Hackintosh. It runs everything that is thrown at it and while it might not be the best value now - when I purchased it - it was the cheapest Nvidia card I could find with a modern feature set.

Cons: Well its running DDR 3 and a 128 bit bus. That means the memory is slow (most video cards are GDDR 5) and the cards memory bandwidth is limited to what it can suck through a 128 bit memory bus. The Geforce 660 has a 192 bit bus and the 670, 760, and 770 all have 256 bit bus widths. Playing the latest FPS at 1080p with your settings cranked up is not going to be possible with this card. But casual games, some games at 720p or even 1080p with the settings turned down are playable. If I were to be building a system right now I would probably pick up a GTX 750Ti and skip this part. Still at the time - this was a good piece of kit.

Other Thoughts: I think the 750Ti is a much better value proposition now for a low power system.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT A GOOD CARD

Pros: Good card, well build.. solid.. dont know what went wrong. I guess one in a hundred will crash

Cons: The card never work with my games, it keep crashing, I dont play a lot of games, so it work great with my videos and regular internet/computer use, but when I try to play an old game it crash, then I try a new game and it crash, even games that it supports it crash.. I dont blame the company... it's a good company.. I guess I was the unlucky who got the one card that have problems.. after 5 months I try to return it under the warranty but I never keep the docs and/or register for the warranty.. I learn that I need to register all the time.. I trusted that such a great company will take care of their product no matter what.. I'm looking forward to buy another and I will buy the same brand again.. I hope this was a just one time issue..

2 out of 5 eggsno output from mini HDMI

Pros: can play every game on the rig

Cons: no output from mini HDMI. Tried cheapo mini HDMI to regular adapter, didn't work, bought highly rated adapter, still no video. Only DVI

5 out of 5 eggsI recommend the GeForce GT 640

Pros: Excellent packaging.

Decimates the GeForce 9500 GT!

Cons: None, ATM.

Other Thoughts: I did a quick benchmark test with Maxon Cinebench R15 and got about 55 FPS when the GeForce 9500 GT would be lucky to do 16 FPS with a good core OC.

2 out of 5 eggswas great while it worked

Pros: low power consumption
adequate performance at this price point

Cons: started getting random artifacts within a day
later lost display completely

I took a gamble as others have with this being a refurb, and came up short. It happens.

Back to my old adapter for the time being.

Other Thoughts: 5 eggs for Newegg customer service and return policy.

Before the adapter died, I would have given 4 eggs based on features and performance.

Manufacturer Response:

Good day Robert S,

5 out of 5 eggsAs described

Pros: Well priced for refurb. Has dual DVI and HDMI. Does not require a monster power supply, and no dedicated power connectors.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I upgraded my HTPC from a Radeon R6450 card, and all seems right with the world. The stuttering I would 'sometimes' get has disappeared, and I've seen no hiccups or issues with the GT 640.
I read the specs for this card, and was not surprised at it's qualities. I can't state much more than any time you buy refurb, you run the risk of having a bad card that might never work right.. or you could have something that's been fixed and will have NO further issues.

Pros: This card was in a new state, it had no problems at all
it ran nice and cool, Max Temp at 60.Celcium
it could be overclocked some more and it worked stable.

Runs any game ever made , newest ones like Metro Last light ran in Normal at 40-60FPS in a 20' Inch monitor 1080p

and heaven benchmark at 15-24FPS in max settings

Cons: it's built in fan, makes just a little bit more noise compared with other fans.

but nothing else, no cons

Other Thoughts: i wish this had SLI . too low end to have it

1 out of 5 eggsSTAY AWAY

Pros: Looks Nice

Cons: Packaged in a box with no paper work. Installed and did not work at first. Then I restarted my computer and it showed windows 7 loading at 800x600pixels and 16 colors.

Other Thoughts: For over all cost it seems alright. This particular item will be RMA'ed and I guess newegg will send me another one but they are currently out of stock at the time of this review which means I will be out a video card until this is resolved.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: It's quiet and stayed cool. It was cheap, but it was also a refurbished card.

Cons: It's fat, takes up two slots. It also crashed my computer a lot. It has a Mini HDMI port which you will need a special cable or adapter for.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this on 12/23. Didn't get here til over a week later due to the holiday overload. I expected that to happen. Still - glad I didn't pay for express shipping.

I plugged it in and it worked right away. Well, almost. I didn't realize it had a Mini HDMI port on it until I went to plug my HDMI cord into it. Had to go out and shop for something that would fit. Best Buy wanted 40 bucks for a four foot HDMI to Mini HDMI cable. I was able to find an adapter for 12.99 at the local computer store. Newegg most likely has it even cheaper (haven't looked yet.)

Stayed quiet, and everything ran smooth. I was able to run Assassin's Creed 4 with decent FPS (I have a quadcore, AMD 4100-FX.) However an issue arose which made it unstable. My games would crash only in certain spots of a game (like in AC4 when I ran back into the water to board my ship, or Star Trek Online when I went to the Fleet Dilithium Mine and looked up to the sky), as if the card just couldn't render it and so did a hard reboot instead. Initial research suggested that the PSU isn't powerful enough but my PSU is 450w and the required amount for this card is 350w. PSU calculators suggest that with this card and my current hardware, I should have no problem whatsoever.

I contacted EVGA and they offered to RMA it. Got the shipping label in the mail, took it down to UPS after the New Year's holiday. Cost an additional 15 dollars just to send it back. So I'm waiting on that now.

$57.99 for the refurbished card that didn't work.
$12.99 for an hdmi to mini hdmi adapter
$14.50 to ship the mother [REDACTED] thing back.
Total price: $85.48

If I had known it would cost me so much extra, I would have just gotten a better quality card. I feel so jipped it's not funny.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Budget Card

Pros: -Cheap
-Slim Profile
-Nice Design
-Studier than it Looks in the Picture
-Came in Real Good Condition

Cons: -For the Price I could not have asked for anything better.

Other Thoughts: All i can say is that for the price I love this card. It is very aesthetically pleasing as well as fits my needs. Most of the games I play do not require a really good video card otherwise i would of went with a 650 ti boost or 660 and at some point i may still upgrade to one of those, but when i bought this card and as of now it still fits all my needs.
