5 out of 5 eggsRuns Win 7 Aero and nearly automatic installation

Pros: Great PowerColor tech support.
Helped resuscitate a nearly dead DELL 3000.
One of few 512mb Directx10 PCI cards that will run on a 250w power supply.
Enabled 3.5 Windows 7 Areo rating and 5.2 3D Business / Game rating on Windows Experience Index.
Installation under Win 7 and DELL onboard protocols was literally automatic -- drop and go!
Fanless, so quiet.

Cons: It's obvious in the product images and others repeat this characteristic -- fanless cards like this use a thick heatsink. The card took up two PCI slots on my DELL 3000.

Other Thoughts: I got fantastic email tech support from PowerColor as I prepared to purchase this card. The rep sent an install sequence to address the onboard graphics issue that many who buy this card face. Very personable, and that service confirmed my choice. Although, if you have less than 300w power supply and need a PCI card that can get your machine running Win 7 Aero graphics, there are very few choices.

I did check the DELL 3000 BIOS setting for the onboard graphics and found that DELL's protocol offered two options: Onboard and Automatic (the factory setting). So, with my 3000, there was nothing to do in BIOS. I removed a useless modem card to make room for the "fat" HD2400, dropped the new card in, and rebooted the machine (don't forget to connect the monitor to the new DVI port!). Win 7 automatically installed the newest drivers (8/17/09), and the DELL updated the Display Adapter in Device Manager to ATI (onboard didn't even appear anymore). The whole process was automatic!! WOW!

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: -Inexpensive
-Good for my older p4
-Runs most games I play on my old p4
-Runs consistently

Cons: -Big heat sink: it takes two slots. I expected this.
-Low end video card but it runs well.
-Didn't quite fit correctly with my compaq case. Had to bend the case's backplate a little so I can screw in and secure the card.

Other Thoughts: I put in a vantec pci slot cooler to suck the hot air from the heat sink. I can warm my fingers on it during cold winters. =)

Some older games will suffer from reduced framerates, but this is problem with said games than the card.

5 out of 5 eggsnice

Pros: I bought this card to use in an older Dell while I was upgrading my gaming computer. Worked perfectly, runs WOW at medium settings(shaders on low) at 1440x900 and runs Left4dead on medium at the same resolution. Overclocks stable 25% proc/ 20% ram with a slot cooler below it, but shows very little difference in 3dMark06 scores OC'd(probably because of the 64-bit bus and DDR2).

Cons: Price. This card cost almost as much as my 4830 open box card did for my gaming computer.

Other Thoughts: This computer(2.2G P4, 1G DDR ram, this card, generic sound card w/ optical out, and Lite-on DVD-R) in a cooler master HTPC case serves as my starter HTPC now running power DVD 9 ultra and nero 8 ultra. I did have a Sony 5-disc changer w/ 1080i/720p upconvert running an HDMI cable and this HTPC setup just running through the analog D-sub cable beats it hands down in picture quality. A few people have said that this card fails to play Blu-ray, and I can't speak from experience yet, but Cyberlink's Blu-ray program for testing whether your computer is Blu-ray capable shows this card to be ready(with the 11/08 drivers, for some reason the newest ATI drivers are not passing the program's specs).

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T!

Pros: Box art is neat.

Cons: Power color is one of the worst companies I have EVER bought from. See other.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card to give my Atom board a little pick me up. It was WORSE than the GMA 945G. My onboard was BETTER!

Power color had a defunct looking website with come out dated drivers for this series card, but get used to it, omega and official DON'T WORK ON IT!!!!

Do not buy this garbage. I tried a geforce 6200 after the fact and got about 35 fps in WoW (only game I had installed to test it).

I would REALLY advise NOT getting anything from Powercolor EVER.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card for people with only PCI slots.

Pros: Great video card for people with only PCI slots (older motherboards)

I was able to run The Sims 3 very well with this card on my older pc. I can also now use my TV as a secondary monitor in theater mode to watch movies and stuff.

Cons: it takes up 2 pci slots but this wasn't a problem for me. also i had trouble getting the s-video out working to enable my TV as a secondary monitor. i was only able to have 1 monitor enabled at a time whether it was my tv or pc. i did some research and found out what might be the problem. i bought a dvi-vga adapter to hook up my monitor through the dvi slot instead of the vga slot and it fixed my problem. now i'm able to have both my monitor and tv enabled at the same time and can watch movies from my pc on my tv.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best! ordered this on a saturday if i remember correctly and got it on tuesday. 4 eggs only because of the s-video tv out problem which was easily fixed with a dvi-vga adapter.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: It fits in my computer, and can run WoW

Cons: If I try to run any other game but WoW, it will crash. If I try to run more then 1 application of any kind, or just a single application that uses a lot of processing power, it will crash. Not worth the hassle, looking for a new card. Runs hot, I had to get a graphics slot fan, that did help, but not much.

Other Thoughts: When it crashes, i get a random color splash on the screen, but when it comes up it reports it was a BSOD. It doesn't even crash 'correctly'.

4 out of 5 eggsNice upgrade for old pc's

Pros: PCI interface for PC's with less than steller integrated GPU's and no AGP or Better slot.
Able to run The Sims 3.
256mb onboard + hyper memory = 512mb total vid ram

Cons: Not much but....
Big Heat sink makes card take up 2 slots worth of space.
Hardly any documentation included with card.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my sister who has an old Dell Dimension 2400 PC. I needed to replace the ATI 9200 PCI Card I put in a while back because that card couldnt, play the Sims 3. I installed the PowerColor 2400 HD and the old dell had no problems picking it up and XP installed it with no probs. It breathed new Life in the Sims 2 and the Sims 3 was finally Playable. When checking the properties of the card it shows a total of 512mb of vid ram. A really nice card for old PC's! Worth the extra money compared to the AGP and PCIe renditions. If you need a PCI card that can breath new life for graphics in your old old machine, you cant go wrong with this.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor

Pros: None

Cons: Runs hot, barely runs my 37inch HDTV, flickers

Other Thoughts: Thought it would improve my picture but flickers from time to time and that is annoying.

Manufacturer Response:

Please contact our technical support at 909.468.5100 so we can find out what exactly is wrong with the card and help to fix it.

5 out of 5 eggsPCI video for Win7

Pros: This card fit in a Dell Optiplex 2.6 Pentium 4 and allowed it to run Win7 RC with Aero quite well. Added a little more life to an old machine.

Cons: Price.
