Unbeatable Value as of October 2009
- Pros: Excellent crossfired setup for the value. Significantly quieter than my old MSI Radeon 3870. Cannot get much better performance @ this price range. Cards run pretty cool even under high loads.
- Cons: Didn't come with MW2. Lost sleep playing COD4 and COD5 while admiring pretty graphics. For real though, just make sure you have your own xfire bridge as these cards do not come with them.
- Other Thoughts: I bought two of these and crossfired them on an MSI X58 platinum motherboard, with Core i7 920 @ stock speeds & 6 GB DDR3 ram @ 1600 MHz. Fits easily in my Antec 900 case. Plays COD4/5, and WoW great at max settings. Hands down best value for the money (as of end of October 2009) as the $250 xfired performance rivals a single $350+ Radeon 5870. Would not replace these cards until the next gen 68xx Radeons are released and the 5870s are as cheap as these 4870s are now.
Only had these cards a couple of weeks, have not failed yet. I will be sure to post if they die, but so far so good.
Worked 3 months - Terrible RMA service
- Pros: -Fast
-Cheap
-Crossfires pretty good
- Cons: Stopped working after not even 3 months of casual use. Tried to send an RMA request, no response after over a week. I'm not dealing with this company anymore. I'm just gonna buy a new card from a different company. I will never buy from you again Powercolor.
- Other Thoughts: Don't recommend buying any of powercolor products. I knew I shoulda just got a sapphire.
Shoulda went with 1G
- Pros: -FAST
-Cheap
-This was a flagship card for a while, now at 126
-Runs cool, nice heat sink
-Factory overclocked, Still less expensive than non OC'd ones.
-Heat Pipes?
- Cons: -Fan can sound like a dust buster
-If you want to keep it for more than a year you probably want the 1Gb version.
- Other Thoughts: Fan dose such a good job at cooling at max load it will actually cycle to medium speed. The card will heat up then and it will cycle to max for a little while. It can sound a little like weeeeeee, woooooo,weeeee,woooooo. Its not that bad though.
It is a fast card, with fast RAM. It is good enough to handle just about any game other than crysis on max detail 1920X1200. 1Gb will have a bit more staying power as games start to use more texture memory, deff worth the extra $5 for the 1Gb as the card is fast enough to have some staying power.
