2 out of 5 eggsGood performance, yet too hot + noisy = SHUTDOWN

Pros: Very outstanding performance, runs most games at over 60fps @ 1920x1080 only if you don't put aa. Crysis ran at 30fps which is good and COD4 can run 250fps. Core clock - Memory clock are 850Mhz - 975Mhz

Cons: Runs 60C idle, load over 80-90C, could be because of my air circulation in the case but even after I took the side panel off for it to breathe, nothing changed, still 60C idle and load over 80-90C. Once the temps go that high the fan usually runs at maximum speed 100%, and I am very disturbed at how noisy this fan can be, it worries me because even at these high fan speed at these temps, my computer shuts down out of nowhere usually playing crysis or any other demanding game. My temporary solution was to lower the memory clock, the core clock kept throttling back to 850MhZ.

Other Thoughts: Btw, I bought this card from CyberPower which came with my pc.

I'm very disappointed, it's very hard for me to play games while this fan is too loud and the computer shutting down.

Do not buy this card, hopefully any other 4890 will be better than this piece of poop.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for the bad experience. If you send me an e-mail I can definitely help you with a replacement. I think there might be something wrong with the fan assembly if the card is getting that hot. Either way, my e-mail is hugo@powercolor.com, thanks.

3 out of 5 eggsNot satisfied

Pros: Silent, overclockable

Cons: not satisfied with perrformance and FPS benchmarks.

Other Thoughts: I have been running several benchmark programs on my PC, and not only one but in all of them benchmark results are horrible, nearly 1/3 of the systems with the HD 4890 card, and the same CPU. (phenom II x4 955). How come? How can the results should be less than half of the comparable systems, I don't know. I also benchmarked my memory and harddriver, thinking that the problem may be them. Both are fine. they were not the problem.

I hopw I can return this thing to newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsNot so sure

Pros: Plays MOST of the games in high settings

Cons: Does NOT play all games I throw at it. Cant make Dirt 2 run . As same as BF2, BF SF and BF 2142.
Problems with dual cloned monitors because of the VERY BAD drivers that ATI gives for all 4890 s

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a 8800gts 320 mb and yes it is a big difference in performance. But after reading a lot in the net I realized that is not the brand but the Drivers that are provided by ATI the ones that are bad. I have read similar cases with other 4890 card brands. This means BE CAREFUL because its not that stable with all games because of the drivers. It has been frustrating for me throwing some games

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Great video card. Plays Crysis on all very high settings (I'm a gamer). For $180, it's fairly cheap compared to the other top video cards out there.

Cons: Doesn't support DirectX 11 which I worry about in the future.

Other Thoughts: Yea it's a bit bulky, but what good video card isn't these days?

5 out of 5 eggs4890 rocks

Pros: Upgraded from a 8800gtx and this baby rocks...good performance and great overclockability--don't pay for a factory overclock which is overpriced and has little headroom, this card can be OC'd to 875 core, 1000 memory without a blink. Do your research to confirm, but they've done real good with this one.

Cons: not free :-)

Other Thoughts: temps are absolutely not an issue, the previous review must have been poor cooling in general...stock it idles at 52 and this is with air cooling (4 80mm fans) and which is cooler than my 8800gtx and you can use ATI software or r..tuner to easily manually change the core and memory clocks and fan settings.

1 out of 5 eggsOver Heating

Pros: Let me run the games i tried on high and looked great (games like Aion, Batman, Battleforge, Sim 3) was going to try others but i only get a 10 min preview then card over heats =(

Cons: Only able to play games for 10 min...Over heated after that
up 80c-90c (dont think thats a good temp. good)

The thing is huge!!

Other Thoughts: i bought a computer from newegg, but made by ibuypower. all the spec were nice and for a good price...now i know why the graphics card was c-rap lol...well not c-rap but messed up...so im sending the card to ibuypower, see what they say about it and if they give me the same one back, if so ill follow up and report if the new one is good.

Manufacturer Response:

Feel free to contact me directly at hugo@powercolor.com, I'd like to see if I could help you get this issue resolved. While 90*C is hot, I've seen cards operate at that temperature without any negative impact on stability. Did you try changing the fan speed on the card? Please reference this review in your e-mail.
