5 out of 5 eggswhat a suprise

Pros: runs cool, great speed and a lot quieter than my 4870. I have it running at 830/1050. I bought it open box.

Cons: this may or may not be a con... the card will be going on a 890 atx motherboard... so its not an issue for me... but I tested it on a 785 micro... it covers 3 of the 5 onboard sata connections, so if your planning to do an upgrade for that board you need a different card... this one is 10 1/2 inches and the cooler is massive... the cowling hangs over the back end.

Other Thoughts: The rig I tested it with was a 785gm-us2h with a amd cpu(deneb quadcore) and 4 gig of ddr2 1100 with a samsung 2570 monitor, case is a antec 600 black, corsair 750 psu. The card Idles in the high 30c s and gets to mid and upper 40c s with the fan on manual set at 55% and is quieter than my his 4870 at 47% fan. OH... Newegg Rocks!!

5 out of 5 eggsStrong card

Pros: Strong enough for 5760x1080 resolution eyefinity playing Call of Duty world at war at about 65 FPS average. Never dropped below 50 FPS, high of about 77 FPS. Plenty playable with zero lag. I was quite impressed as initial reviews of the 5830 put it just a hair above the performance of a 5770. I've also previously owned a sapphire 5770, this card is WAY stronger. The 5770 was not even close to strong enough to play 5760x1080, it struggled at 3840x1080 to break 50 FPS but of course first person shooters don't work reall well with 2 monitors so thats why I got rid of the 5770.

Cons: None at this price range. All ATI cards are no good for folding, but hopefully the GPU3 client will help soon.

Other Thoughts: Much stronger than my old gtx275, and runs way cooler. Idles in the mid 30's and loads at mid 50's celsius with the fan at a near silent 65%.
No need for a 5850 or 5870 at all if you only game on a single monitor up to 1920x1200. At 1920x1080, with full 16x/16x AA/AF, this card doesn't blink it pegs FPS at the max capped 125 no matter what.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Card runs great. Powercolor is a brand i think is getting better all the time. I have a PC 5850 as well and was impressed with it AND this 5830.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This card was for my girlfriends computer. for her, it will fine, for a long time. if i was buying for my main rig, i would just spend a little more and get at least a 5850 for gaming. but 2 5830s in crossfire, now that would be interesting, certainly for the 1440x900 and 1680x1050 resolution range, it may even be overkill. :)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent upgrade for an old motherboard

Pros: As a final video upgrade for my 5-year-old Intel D955XBK motherboard, this card allows me to run most of my games at their highest quality settings (Bioshock, Dead Space, etc.), with a Pentium D 930 processor no less. I'm very much impressed.

Cons: ATI's website still recommends the beta driver dated February 25, 2010 for this card. Anti-Aliasing may not be fully functional until ATI gets around to including support for this card in their general (signed) WHQL Catalyst drivers. Patiently waiting...

Other Thoughts: I'm using Windows XP x64 SP2; therefore, I'm limited to DirectX 9.0c. Even so, this card seems to work almost flawlessly. The only problem I have so far is some distortion when scrolling through images or documents very quickly on the Windows desktop. I believe this will probably be fixed when WHQL drivers for this card become available.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst Time Builders' Review

Pros: Price - Best out of the other HD 4830s.
OCed - Not much, but it's a nice touch.
Size - Fit in my HAF 922 just fine.

Cons: Heat - Maybe it's just the way I have my fans set up, but this gets hot really fast.
OCing - I'm a noob at it as this is my first build, so it crashed a few times.
Games - I had to change a few settings to get games to fit my screen correctly.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. For all it's worth, it averaded over 200 fps in both a HF2 stress test and the CSS stress test. I haven't looked much into 3DMark, so it's all I have to go by. When I bought it, it was like only 1 of 3-4 cards that were out. If I'd have known spending 20 bucks more would have gotten me a slightly better looking card and a game coupon, I'd have waited.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: -Fantastic OC Headroom, mines at 975/1125. But I have seen over 1Ghz Core.

-Great-looking. Feels magnificent when you're holding it and looks even nicer when it's in the case.

-Runs everything at the highest settings on very new drivers, will only get better as a performer.

-Closes the gap between the 5770 and 5850.

Cons: -Expensive, but see my 'other thoughts' part to understand why that wasn't a problem for me.

-Larger than the 5850. About 10 inches and +.5 for the power connectors.

-Heatpipes stick up about an inch, may be a problem for some mid-towers. Not mine, but like I said. Probably for some.

-Performs closer to the 5770 as of now, but I honestly think that's because of immature drivers and besides, it overclocks so well that I'm getting 5850 framerates in Crysis. No exaggeration.

Other Thoughts: I bought this from a professional reviewer for 150, so right off of the bat, know that that's how much I paid for this.
I love it all around. It's SUCH a fast card. I don't see needing an upgrade for a very long time. ATI is on a roll.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card!!!

Pros: Plenty Fast using the 10.3a Catalyst preview drivers. Overlocked to core 925 & memory 1280 without a hitch. Unigine @ stock was 36fps average @ 1680x1050 @ max.Overclocked was 44 fps average at same settings. BFBC2 plays great @max. Arma II I can now move up to higher detail settings & keep the same frames from my older 4870 512mb card. Other games have seen in increase form 10 to 30 FPS at Max settings.

Cons: Price needs to go down to 200 and drivers needto mature a bit & performance will increase more on this card.

3 out of 5 eggsMust have got the booby prize!!!!

Pros: It doed run at stock speeds, looks good, pretty quiet,Newegg got it here fast.

Cons: Read online this was a good card for overclocking. Tested it in two systems using 3 different drivers. I must have gotten one of their worst examples because this card will not overclock but about 10MHz. If this card cost $199.00 it would be a winner, not $250.00 with no headroom in the tank. This was my first ATI card so I could take advantage of Direct X11. Using the Unigine Heaven benchmarking program I barely got 30FPS at default settings running at 1680X1050 with lots of stuttering in the more difficult areas.

Other Thoughts: Spend more money and get the 5870 or wait and see what Nvidia comes out with their Direct X11 cards.

Manufacturer Response:

Unfortunately some cards aren't going to overclock as well as others. Keep in mind that other components can have an effect on how well a card can overclock as well. Most importantly the quality of your power supply, as well as the motherboard you're installing the card into. Feel free to e-mail me and I can see if I can help you with the issue you're having. My e-mail is hugo@powercolor.com, and be sure to reference this review. Thanks.
