1 out of 5 eggsBad Company Avoid.

Pros: Card seems to work fine. But will never buy or recommend a PowerColor product again, due to rebate problems.

Cons: No rebate. Sent me an email they needed copy of invoice again. Try to email copy of invoice to rebate email and keeps getting bounced back.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Great in a multi-GPU system

Pros: Excellent performance, great overclocking potential, includes adapters(!)

Cons: I have three quad 7970 systems, all using this model. The HSF mounting screws protrude too far from the back of the card. And...the fans are unbalanced
Ipso facto: blades WILL impact the HSF's rear screws if using multiple cards without a gap. I have found a solution...

Also, i had hoped to UNDERVOLT these cards to keep them nice and cool, but it appears to be IMPOSSIBLE to adjust voltage on these cards. < This is what really bums me out :(

Other Thoughts: I'm not disappointed with my purchase, as the price was excellent. However, it has been a bit of a pain dealing with the fan issues and the inability to undervolt this card SUCKS!

5 out of 5 eggsGaming & Folding

Pros: The top-end AMD solution throughout Q1/Q2 & probably Q3 of 2013. AMD has made it clear they are not worried about releasing a successor more powerful than the 7970. Anything released in 2013 will not be as powerful as the 7970 and will remain the flagship GPU through most if not all of 2013.

AMD has taken a different stance this recent generation of GPU's, instead of slapping together a product and hoping it preforms well in the real world gaming situations, they are working very closely with gaming deverlopers and are poised to have ALL the next gen console hardware supplied by them via their lucrative APU's. What this means is the 7970 will be 100% adequate to run ANY game of 2013 hands down, no questions asked.Games will be designed to run on consoles that feature AMD hardware, which will be pre-tweaked to be successful on AMD hardware. This in turn results PC gamers recieving Console to PC ports that do not get poor ports, they get native ports with full feature sets of DX11.

Early reports of whats going to be under the hood of the PS4 and Xbox 720 both being AMD APU's , you would have to be insane to buy the next best thing (Titan) considering you DONT NEED MORE PROCESSING POWER THAN A 7970 FOR 2013 / THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE PS4/XBOX720'S LIFETIME. The console's hardware will REMAIN STATIC AND YOU'RE LOOKING AT EASILY THE LIFETIME OF PS4/XBOX 720 BEING SUPPORTED ALSO FEEDING PC GAMES THAT THE 7970 WILL RUN WITHOUT QUESTION. It has phenomenal GPGPU performance, I can run MilkyWay@Home AMD workunits in average of 30-45 seconds @ 200ish credit PER WU.

Cons: None , this is the ultimate future proofing videocard for the next 4 - 5 years (The life span / support for PS4/720) Currently PS3/360 ports to PC are usually garbage due to the large generation gap. The generation gap for the PS4 and 720 vs the current top end gpu's (7970 / 690 / Titan) are more powerful than the gpu's that will be featured in the next gen consoles that haven't even been released yet.

Other Thoughts: AMD is about to go critical in 2013, and with HSA looming over the corner, any Graphics Core Next purchase is a good idea. AMD has big plans and they are basicially positioning themselves to where all they have to do is lay the groundwork for PS4/720 which they have almost completed doing. They need not do anything except focus on supporting the game dev's while they churn out near-identical quality games for PC/PS4/720 consoles. The weaker consoles of the next generation that aren't even on the market yet, that won't be as powerful as this 7970 released in 2012,make it a no brainer. AMD is going to be the supplier of the hardware of all these game developers is definately making 2013 the year of AMD. "The way its meant to be played" is really meeting its match with "Never Settle" , I'm sure AMD will continue to offer different named "Never Settle" promo's with 2 free games throughout 2013. As soon as BioShock Infinite releases, look forward to a new offering to be in the works. Free Pre-Order games really is another unbelievable reason to go with AMD in 2013. I've enjoyed Crysis 3 immensely, and WOW BioShock Infinite comes out THIS MONTH (3/26/2013 , thats 14 more days)

4 out of 5 eggs7970 Performance

Pros: + Quality Built for $375
+ Fast / Safe Delivery by New Egg
+ Well Packed
+ Include many accessories while most expensive brand don't include as many
+ Beats more expensive 680 in many benchmarks.

Cons: My Power supply (650W) has 4x 6 pin cable while this card need 8 pin cable, I used the adapter but Screen was blank. I might have a DOA or PS issues. Tech from Powercolor recommended returning or RMA.

Other Thoughts: Will buy Another RADEON product as always.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card!

Pros: - Price is Great!
- Games look great! Blows my old GTX 480 out of the water!
- Does not run hot.

Cons: - A real pain to set up initially. Do not set up two screens before installing the catalyst. You will hate life if you do. If you don't do this, the card will set up fine.

Other Thoughts: This card would have gotten higher, but the initial set up was a headache and a half. As long as you don't do what I did in the cons, you should not experience any trouble with the card.

I did the same thing with the GTX 480, and it was able to handle it without issue.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat card, Bad CrossFire...

Pros: Works great on its own. I haven't found a single game that I can't run on all high. In fact the only game I can't run on Ultra is Planetside 2.

Cons: Since I couldn't run Planetside 2 on Ultra, I took it upon myself to buy a second card and CrossFire them...I was very dissapointed. I looks like the software doesn't support this model very well. After numerous restarts, bluescreens, and reinstalling the drivers multiple times, I finally got the crossfire settings to work. But even once It was enabled, my FPS went down significantly in game with random crashes and bluescreens occurring after playing any game for more than an hour...

Other Thoughts: I tested everything to make sure that it was the software causing the problem. I tried using only the new card and it worked just as well as the first. My PS is a brand new KingWin modular 1000w power supply so I'm pretty sure its not that. I want to return the card but nothing is actually wrong with it...just the software used to crossfire it. I'm going to hang onto it and hopefully software will come that will support this card.

Manufacturer Response:

If the issue only occurs with Planetside 2 and nothing else, and now across two cards individually and in cross-fire mode, it possible that the issue you are experiencing may be an issue specific to the game and not the card(s). Perhaps obtaining the latest patch will resolve these issues you are experiencing with the game and the card?

For further support, please feel free to contact me at jgaray@powercolor.com so that we may work on this together.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Pros: overclocks great (1050 core, 1500 mem), runs crysis at 60 fps (have 2 x crossfire)

Cons: raises ambient temp because of non reference cooler

Other Thoughts: expensive, but brings great performance to the table. don't think i'll be upgrading for a while.
