5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: Exceeded my expectations. It works wonderfully, no problems, isn't loud, plays every game I own at the highest settings, etc, for a relatively low price for this graphic card.

- Fantastic value compared to top end cards
- Low noise
- Easy to install

Cons: - Can get a little hot under full load, but not bad enough to cost any eggs

3 out of 5 eggsMediocre coin mining

Pros: Cheap after rebate.

Cons: This card is mediocre at mining and suffers from periodic hardware errors. Gets 330 Khash/s at scrypt mining but with the hardware errors averages out to less than 300 work units. My sapphire 7850 gets a better WU rate, similar hash rate, and also draws less power.

Also, when I plugged this in as my main card, my display wouldn't work properly. I had to relegate it to second PCI-E slot and use another gfx card as my main card.
I suspect I could RMA this card but it's a hassle and I'm not sure they'd approve it anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy It

Pros: Price - $199
Performance - This card runs just as well as a much more expensive 7870 I use in another machine
Size - it's small enough that it's not crammed into the case (Mid Tower gaming case)
ports - it has every imaginable type of port, and supports 5 monitors at the same time.

Cons: It's not a 7970

Other Thoughts: This card is perfect for the casual to serious gamer. It does not require SLI/Crossfire headaches to get decent framerates on high settings in any game I've tried (Sims3, Dayz, Crysis games, etc.) The price is unbelievably good, even though I expect other cards of the same series to go down in price soon.

CAUTION - this card has 2x external power inputs, and I didn't read to find out if it absolutely needed both. But be aware that you will need a serious power supply. Make sure your power supply supports 2 graphics card connectors and has high amperage per rail on the rail you will be connecting to the card (more than 25 amps on at least that rail.)

Keep in mind that watts = amps* volts, and power supply wattage is additive, meaning each cable eats some of the wattage/amperage/voltage.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the price!

Pros: Was easy to install. This was my first time upgrading a computer's hardware and I had no problem doing that what so ever.

Before I got this I had the Radeon HD 5450 graphics card. I started picking up some new games on Steam (Assassins Creed IV, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Dishonored) and for the first time was having trouble playing things so I decided I needed an upgrade.

These are my specs:
8 gigs of memory
AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor 2.70 GHz
ASUS desktop computer that's just over three years old

The first game I fired up after installing the hardware was Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. On my old system I could only play it on low, with a resolution of 800 x 600. I got the desktop running through my TV which runs at 1080 x 720. On my native monitor the resolution is 1366 x 728. On both resolutions I can run Assassins Creed IV on all Very High settings. I haven't tried Ultra but I might imagine it might be a little less smooth but still playable no doubt. I wasn't able to display the frame rate but the animation and the smoothness of the video was flawless. No lag at all. It was like watching a movie - and for the first time I feel like I'm finally using my HD TV for what it's made for.

I've slowly been migrating away from consoles and over the past couple of years I've been playing exclusively on PC - and this card has pretty much completed the migration for me. I know there's still better stuff out there, but for the price, this card can't be beat.

This card was a fantastic buy. As time goes on, since I've owned this for such a short period of time, I'll update this review.

Cons: See below.

Other Thoughts: So far, I have no problem with the hardware or brand itself. I had difficultly installing it, but that's only because the AMD software was clashing with something from a previous Windows update. After using Driver Genius, I had no problem installing the drivers.

As far as there being any cons, there's no paperwork or info for the 30 dollar rebate, so after the weekend I gotta figure out how to get that. It also didn't come with any offers to redeem free games, like a lot of graphics cards do.

But I won't officially list those things as cons because we're rating the hardware and product, and it's ability to do what it's supposed to do, and I don't have any problem with that.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent HD 7870 Graphics Card

Pros: * Shorter length of PowerColor's non-reference design of under 9" means this can fit in smaller cases
* Stays cool at idle clock speeds - I experience 26°C to 27°C
* Load temperatures are acceptable - my PowerColor HD 7870 never exceeds 70°C
* Fan is not noticeably loud
* Excellent 1080p gaming performance with high settings (I play BF3, Far Cry 3, Crysis 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2, etc.), like with any other AMD Radeon HD 7870 graphics card
* Has 2GB of GDDR5 graphics memory, crucial for today's more-detailed 3D games at higher resolutions
* Windows 7 WEI score in both graphics categories is 7.9
* Even though PowerColor lists 500W as the minimum PSU requirement, my Antec HCG-400 400W PSU is able to power this AMD Radeon HD 7870 graphics card without any issues

Cons: * None

Other Thoughts: This PowerColor AMD Radeon HD 7870 graphics card is excellent value for the money, offering excellent performance at 1080p resolution for current games without breaking the bank. I experienced a noticeable performance increase from my old XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB graphics card in Battlefield 3, Far Cry 3, and Crysis 2; those games have run much more smoothly at 1080p with high to ultra settings.

Before I installed it, I worried that this particular HD 7870 graphics card would have cooling issues, since it is shorter than many of the other AMD Radeon HD 7870 graphics cards currently on the market. My fears turned out not to be true, as the temperatures I have experienced so far are very good, being 26°C to 27°C at idle, and between 60°C to 70°C under load.

I currently run the following in my PC:
- AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition 3.2GHz six-core processor (Socket AM3)
- 16GB G.SKILL Value Series DDR3-1333 RAM (4x4GB dual channel)
- ASUS M4A77TD AMD 770 AM3 motherboard
- PowerColor AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 PCI-Express x16 3.0 graphics card (AX7870 2GBD5-2DHV2)
- Samsung EcoGreen F2 HD154UI 1.5TB SATA-II Hard Drive
- Antec High Current Gamer HCG-400 400W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Power Supply
- Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
- Antec Three Hundred mid-tower case

Even with my aging hardware, the PowerColor HD 7870 allows me to play all the latest games at 1080p. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsEDIT: DEFECTIVE

Pros: Great value for all the features the 7870 ghz offers and the cheapest price

Cons: Today was my second unit that i recieved from newegg and once again the graphics card shows no display just like the first one I got. Have to wait for a week for a new one again . This is going to be my second RMA which is strange because i hear that having a defective unit after you RMA is unlikely to happen but i guess i was one of those unfortunate ones. Well, im going to send back my defective gpu tomorrow for RMA and i have my fingers crossed that this third unit will work. The thirds the charm ya know. For now i will give this a poor review im sorry power color but this is just unacceptable if this third unit doesnt work i will never buy from power color EVER.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Power No Color AX7870

Pros: Relatively Cheap for a mid range card.

Cons: Arrived DOA.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure it would have been a good card, but it came DOA. I tried it another board which had a working card and i still didn't work. Sent it back as an RMA.
