1 out of 5 eggsNO warranty without invoice

Pros: No pros that I can think of

Cons: Powercolor 280x died 5 months after I got it. When I tried to file a warranty claim their website says I must submit a copy of the invoice. Since I do not have a copy of the invoice receipt they will not honor the 2 year warranty. These video cards did not even exist 2 years ago, they should honor the warranty.

Other Thoughts: I will not be buying another powercolor product and I will be checking warranty information on anything else I purchase before I buy it.

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor. Please email me at and we can see what we can do for you.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Great Card, easy to overclock, Can handle Battlefield 4 on ultra without a problem. Easy to install, and the drives update regularly,

Cons: Has a very noticeable coil whine when it is under heavy load, especially when playing games. The drivers might crash, but it is very sporadic.

Other Thoughts: Overall it is a great card! I recommend it to anyone who wants a great high performance graphics card.

4 out of 5 eggsPowerful, decently designed.

Pros: This is a great card (bought two of them) they are attractive and the construction doesn't seem flimsy.

Cons: The problem I have with it is the decision to put the power connectors on the top of the card instead of the end. I understand in smaller cases it can be difficult to get the clearance you need to plug them in. but as is putting them on the top made unplugging them a problem because once plugged in the 8pin connector touches the heatpipe. so you have to pry the card apart slightly to get it unplugged. a minor redesign could fix this problem.

Other Thoughts: It's a great set of cards I just hesitate to put any force on my brand new graphics cards just to get the power unplugged.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible Customer Service

Pros: Good Product

Cons: The customer service from PowerColor is absolutely atrocious. I've had to attempt to use there RMA service twice, and both times its been more of a hassle than trying to hog tie an 8 legged bull.

First issue ended up resolving itself, after trying to contact their customer support for 2 weeks with no response. Eventually after the problem was resolved I get a response email, thanks for the help when I needed it buddy.

Second issue, i sent an e-mail in about a week and a half ago and still have yet to receive any sort of response, even automated. I've called their RMA number and the phone just rings.

It seems to me that they may only have a handful of support staff in the US and its absolutely ridiculous. The product itself is pretty good, but I'd rather pay 10-20$ more and get another brand. Very unsatisfied with PowerColor and will NEVER buy again.

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor. Can you please send me an email and a copy of the previous email that you have sent? We will investigate the issue.

Best Regards,

2 out of 5 eggsupdate on review good performence, loud hissing sound, poor customer service

Pros: - Runs cool with the new catalyst low clocks on dual monitor ! Finally (14.3 see below)
-overclocks stable at 1155/1555 @ 1.141 V (normal is 1.137)
-does not like voltage boost
-acceptable performance but GPU usage most of the time low despite CPU usage low too while gaming and decent FPS
- A BEAST: the only card that could equal the performance of AMD 6970 (his blower model) handling dual monitor , gaming and game capture_broadcast without major lag. (7870 and 7950 = poor performance)
- idels at 35 degress to 40 even in dual monitor mode ( with proper catalyst version 14.3), extremely quiet = most quiet card I ever had ! unbelievable +++

Cons: -Strong coil whine when gaming or even when browsing with firefox (scrolling down web page!)
- Poor playful customer service: invited to get in touch with them only to get my private info, they did not take care of a single issue that I already reported in my review: so don't waste your time guys.
- price
- crossfire still not very efficient (tried with 7950)
-for some reason GPU usage never exceeds 60% while gaming ( dirt3) with low CPU usage ? unknown bottleneck (phenomenon known to gamers and seems to be game dependent...)

Other Thoughts: - latest catalyst drivers 14.4 give lower clocks on dual monitors but washed out colors: make sure you download catalyst version posted on power color website whcih is 14.3 which is the latest one that supports low clocks for dual monitors and preserves the color scheme.

- Paid $140 on aybay (used in coin farm): best bang for the buck: this card is a real beast

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor. As stated before, coil whine on high end cards are normal. We recommend a motherboard or psu with better power regulators for the coil whine.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing!

Pros: This card is great! It runs everything I throw at it on maximum settings and stays cool! I have owned 3 of these cards so far and have had absolutely no problems with any of them yet! Two of them I was using for cryptocurrency mining and this third one is being used solely for gaming.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I guess I have been lucky in that none of the 3 cards I have bought so far have any coil whine issues. Also, the heat dissipation plate on the back of the card really makes it stand out in a windowed case as well!

1 out of 5 eggsgood performence, loud hissing sound, poor customer service

Pros: - gives a feel of comfort running 2 years old games like dirt 3 all maxed out X8 AA 1920 x 1200 100-120 FPS .
- overclocks well on the memory (1600- 1700) but less on the core clock (1155)
-hefty and heat tolerant and runs much cooler than previous generation cards

Cons: - Performence increase from a generation to another is served to us as drips of IV perfusion : minimal perfomence increase (visible to the naked eye) over 7950 : not worth the spending of more than 200$

-Extremely loud hissing coil whine sound when card is under stress ( gaming): very annoying makes up for the quieteness of the card

- power color customer service = joke, no knowledgeable tech support : they didin't know about the dual bios switch nature and what is loaded in each bios, and ignored the loud coil whine, warranty will not cover second owner of the card = big joke in the world of video cards ( compare with XFX bets warranty)

- ridiculous fans with low airflow and low profile fan curve ( changed with power color utility)

Other Thoughts: newer catalyst and driver from amd 14.4 allow very low clocks but stable on multi monitor, allowing lower heat and lower fan speeds but colors came washed out with no possible compensation , I had to revert to driver 12 on catalyst 13.4 to get back the real color scheme of my monitors but card run 15 degrees hotter because of the higher idle clocks: please fix this issue AMD !

Do yourself a favor and choose a different brand that offer more comprehensive customer support and warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor. We apologize for the issue that you are faced with. You can email me at for any technical and rma related question and I will do my best to resolve the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat A Beast!

Pros: Works wonderful. even on high processing and rendering of projects it stays fairly cool. quiet and massively powerful for everything I throw at it. any game that needs CPU I can easily play max graphics and the card just dosnt seem to care. for a 280x as well very well priced.

works fairly well for mining as well

Cons: Not much to say here. If your looking for a more cost effective computer I would look for cheaper cards. It defiantly is more power then you may need for a casual gamer. Also at least in what I have seen AMD's crossfire. is..... meh... hit and miss with a lot of games. but thats not the card's fault.

Other Thoughts: overall I am very happy with this card. If all goes well I will be holding onto this baby for years to come.
