5 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: Finally, a card that works. The last 3 or so ATI cards I have had went bad in some way. This is the first card in what must be a year now, that doesn't give me artifacts or BSOD randomly. It's also pretty quiet, enough so that I compelled to find an aftermarket cooling solution. It has an enormous 5 heatpipe cooler with 2 fans which has to comprise a fair amount of the value.

Cons: Quiet, but could be quieter. This is probably the largest card I've ever had, due in no small part to the cooling. I'm sure the fans could be completely off and it would still maintain a temp of 80 or less at idle. Sadly, the fans will not go below 20%, which is about 1350RPM, which makes them audible. 32 degrees at idle in a 26 degree room,

Also takes 2 6 pin power plugs.

Other Thoughts: I will have to ask them about a BIOS update.

5 out of 5 eggsSeems to be just fine

Pros: My card is actually working unlike for some others. I upgraded from a Sapphire Radeon 6870 1 GB which is actually almost an inch longer than this card. I really don't do much PC gaming anymore but for a cost of $123 if I get the rebate back, should be a worthy upgrade to a card that is 2 generations older.
The only test I ran was the Unigine Valley Benchmark. At 1920x1080 2x AA High, it was running at a steady 30 FPS. With the older Radeon 6870, it would run at only 24-25 FPS at the same settings.

Cons: When I first installed the card, I booted up and just got a blank screen. I had to power down, turn the onboard video on, reboot, and then I got something to pop-up on the screen. I had to completely re-install AMD Catalyst software because it didn't automatically detect that I swapped out a Radeon 6870 for a Radeon R9 270 even though they both use the exact same driver software.

Other Thoughts: It was the last piece of hardware to upgrade in my current PC as I already have an i7-4770k cpu, a Z87 board, 16 Gb of Ram, and a 240 GB SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsIt's nice, but it'd be better if it worked.

Pros: It's a nice card and all, two fans, decent price.
Seems high quality

Cons: Doesn't work. My monitor won't connect to it through the VGA cable connected to the GPU through the DVI converter, and I know that it's plugged in correctly on either side. Now I'm down $180, and more considering my build won't function without a GPU.

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor, we apologize for the issue that you are faced with. Please contact me at and we can troubleshoot the card.

Best Regards,

2 out of 5 eggsIt works well when it isn't crashing

Pros: When it works it works well
Doesn't break 65 C stays cool

Cons: When running games (even on lowest settings) computer will crash and I get a solid color screen (usually gray or tan) with vertical lines, forcing me to manually restart. It's a major headache and has been happening since I got it.

Other Thoughts: I've updated the Bios, upgraded the PSU, augmented airflow, disabled overclocking, tried different DVI cables, and different PCI slots on the Motherboard and nothing has seemed to fix the issue.

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor. We apologize for the issue that you are faced with. It sounds like the card is bad, please submit a RMA and we will get you a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Card

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, runs cool and quiet. I can play World of Tanks at max settings.

Cons: None thusfar.

Other Thoughts: I'm running Win8.1 which went nutso a few weeks after I installed this card. I started getting a Black Screen of death. I had Newegg replace the card which they did, but the new card did the same thing. Win8.1 had for some reason started trying to use my old Nvidia drivers again. Once I got that sorted, it has been running fine again.

This is my first AMD video card - I'd been using Nvidia since 2002 (GeForce 4 Ti) and 3dfx before that. I'm very happy with this card.

3 out of 5 eggsI bet I'd love it if it worked.

Pros: Great price for a decently powered card. Was going to use it to replace my aging 6850 in my theater PC.

Cons: DOA. Not Neweggs fault of course, and normally I wouldn't write a review for a DOA product BUT my friend ordered one the same day and his was also DOA. There seems to be a problem with some of these cards, so you might want to look elsewhere.

Manufacturer Response:

This is Raymond from PowerColor. We apologize for the issue that you faced with the card. Please be ensure that your motherboard bios is up to date to ensure that there is no compatibility issues with the card you received. If you need any further troubleshooting tips, you can email me at

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless gaming at 1080

Pros: Runs everything I throw at it, including BF4 and Titanfall at max settings and 1080p. Dual fan cooler is quiet yet powerful. I've got it overclocked to 1050/1500 and it doesn't get any louder than it was at stock.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: System specs:
Gigabyte GA-B85N-WIFI ITX motherboard
Powercolor Radeon R9 270 (OC'd to 1050/1500)
Crucial 1 x 8GB DDR3 1600 low profile
Crucial M500 240GB
Silverstone RVZ01
Silverstone 450W Bronze PSU

3 out of 5 eggsGood for gaming, not for mining

Pros: great card for gaming
runs quiet
runs cool

Cons: not so great for mining
unstable if run under load for more than 24 hours
420 kH/s seems to be about the max these will go stable.

Other Thoughts: This is really a great card for video games but there are better options out there for mining.

I can get other 270 cards to run between 450 and 465 kH/s. The Powercolors only hitting 420 kH/s is pretty disappointing.

I will say that these typically run cool (around 65 degrees as opposed to 72 for the other brands) so if you would prefer a cooler running card and are fine with the loss in kH/s it may be a good option.

I run a script that lets these cards rest for 15 minutes every 6 hours and it seems to fix the stability issues. If you run into similar issues I would suggest the same.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Dual Fan

only requires 1 6 pin pcie cable

Cons: None for me personally. The number of video connectors is a bit less than other models but you basically get 1 of each (includes DVI to VGA adapter), which should be plenty for most people.

Other Thoughts: Barely goes above 60c under load

5 out of 5 eggsNice....

Pros: Smaller footprint, nice price, fast

Cons: None so far but I'm still putting it through the paces

Other Thoughts: I replaced an aging HD4890 video card and I can already tell the difference.

The footprint is much smaller than the 4890. Length wise a tad over 8" long. Width seems to be slightly narrower than the 4890. Plus it didn't need 2 power connectors like the 4890.

The main reason for the replacement was to get updated for some of the work I do DirectX 10.1 vs 11.2 and OpenGL 3.0 vs 4.3.
