5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely awesome... so far

Pros: Got this at Christmas and been enjoying it ever since. Runs Dragon Age Inquisition using mantle between 45 to 60 FPS in ultra. It also runs Far Cry 4 keeping it up to 60 FPS on ultra and plays cut scenes around 2 to 3000 FPS. I am only running one card and have yet to get a bsod or system freeze up. I think it might have something to do with the fact I have an 850W PS and my tower runs 9 fans all at the same time.

Cons: I just say this card is power hungry had upgrade my 670W to a 850W PS for some comfort room. Also make sure your tower has a good cooling system.. I haven't had a problem with it but I thought I might point that out.

Other Thoughts: I was seriously thinking about buying a MSI Lightning but hated the fact MSI didn't run AMD Drivers. For AMD drivers this is by far the best card out there and PowerColor has my support. I'll be looking for more products from them in the future.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Card

Pros: When it actually worked the temps were low.

Cons: The first card I received constantly made my computer freeze after driver wipes and reinstalls. The second card was completely DOA.

Other Thoughts: I should have trusted the other reviews. Just because a few people have working cards doesn't mean there isn't a problem. I will never buy from Powercolor again and warn others from purchasing their products. Luckily, I was able to send the card back for a refund. No one should have to keep getting cards until one works.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. We apologize for the issue that you are faced with. Please email me next time if you have any issues with the card. It is unlikely for both card to fail.

Best Regards,
Raymond

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast so far haven't pushed the card to its limits. Runs 300fps lol max settings without breaking a sweat. so far have not seen fans run full speed.

Cons: it is a heavy card considering its heat sink design which is a plus just make sure not to put to much stress on motherboard

4 out of 5 eggsGood card

Pros: Fast but cooler than a lot of R9 290x cards. More than twice as fast as the 6950 it replaced. Was cheap when I bought it.

Cons: Gets a little loud under load.

4 out of 5 eggsOne of the best coolers

Pros: -Nice looking cooler design.
-Excellent stock cooling performance, right up their with the MSI Lightning and Sapphire Tri-X.
-Factory overclock is stable on all benchmarks.
-All VRAM chips are covered by the unisink so no risk of memory artifacting.

Cons: -Auto fan curve is loud compared to Tri-X, Vapor-X, and the Lightning. It would be nice if PowerColor updated the BIOS so the fans don't spin as loud under the auto fan profile since the cooler is capable of dissipating so much heat at only 40% fan speed. This would also help the fans last longer.

-My first card was defective. Even after the BIOS update it still exhibited the infamous "r9 290/290x black screen" problem. Newegg RMA was quick to respond and the replacement works fine.

Other Thoughts: Stock cooling profile was too loud for me so I had to use MSI Afterburner to set a custom fan curve. Even at 40% fan speed under full load the gpu never gets above 72C. VRMs stay under 90C under max load in Unigine and MMO benchmarks.

1 out of 5 eggsAwesome when it works

Pros: -I play star citizen and I get zero lag! Finally I can play star citizen.
-runs at 60 C dont know if thats ok but it shows green
-Can run everything at max settings
-Seemed like a good price

Cons: -I get a black screen sometimes where I can still here sound but the screen is black. I have to hard reboot.

Other Thoughts: I really need something reliable and I question whether this card is quality because of my problem. I am in the process of contacting there support will update when I find out how good there customer service is. If the problem is easily fixed then I will change to 5 stars even though there QA is in question.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Card looks very nice and is a great price

Cons: The first time I pushed this card in game, the fans on the cooling unit started to chatter. While at idle, it is great, but as soon as a graphics intensive load was thrown its way, it was greatly disappointing. Judging by the number of other people who have had this problem, this can only be caused by extremely poor quality control and production. I will never buy another Powercolor product again.

Other Thoughts: A representative from PowerColor tried to tell me that the chatter from the fans was actually coil whine; not even close.

NewEgg is amazing. I do all of my tech shopping here because they are great to work with.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. Coil Whine is normal on high end card. If you have any more concern, please email me at Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com.

Best Regards,
Raymond

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this card... waste of money.

Pros: Card plays games really good in comparison to the GTX 570 or two 6950's I had (even with the bios swap to to the 6970).

Did not come in DOA.

That's it...

Cons: The card is having problems. I am running the latest driver and it gave me a BSOD. I checked out what the BSOD pointed towards and it is the ATI driver.

Here is the log file through Whocrashed....

On Mon 9/22/2014 12:24:52 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0xC7DBB)
Bugcheck code: 0x7E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF8008EB85DBB, 0xFFFFD0010B0C6128, 0xFFFFD0010B0C5930)
Error: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys
product: ATI Radeon Family
company: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
description: ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a system thread generated an exception that the error handler did not catch.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.).
Google query: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Other Thoughts: This is the first product that I have HAD to put a bad review about, EVER!

Everything was going stable until today (9/21/14). All I was doing was running Microsoft Word 2013. I have no viruses (I make sure I do not with all of the tools I have including Combofix, Hitmanpro, JRT, Adwcleaner, and Malwarebytes).

It's not my OC on my processor because it has a stable overclock from 3.5Ghz to 4.5Ghz that I made sure was stable in Prime95. Absolutely no errors and the temps are stable. It is not my processor and the only thing it would be is the graphics card especially with ATI's driver crashing my system.

I cannot get a refund on a product that cost me around $470 that has an obvious defect. I believe people should be allowed to get their money back on a product due to issues like this. Now I am going to have a $470 paper weight that I will be constantly having to talk with the manufacturer to keep fixing. That is bad business on the manufacturers part and Newegg. If a product is defective a customer should have the right to get their money back. It's NOT their fault that they received a bad card.

If I cannot get a refund, expect me never to purchase from you guys again. It's been great and all but it's TERRIBLE business to not let someone have their money back.

System Specs:
i7-3770K OC to 4.5Ghz
ASUS Sabertooth Z77
16GB G.SKILL Sniper Series @ 2133Mhz
ULTRA X4 1050 Watt PSU
annnnnd... this card.

5 out of 5 eggsExcelent

Pros: Nice overclock and great overclocker
stays cool
performs like a champ
great features
nice backplate
quiet

Cons: the only con that I have is the blue screens of death. I thought others were just whining and I didn't get one for a while, soon as I got one they all kept coming. It doesn't happen every day but it does happen enough to be bothersome.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. Please ensure that your psu is at least 750 watts that can supply at least 33 amps of power. If your psu cannot supply enough power, you can get crashing issue as stated. If you have any further issues, you can email me at Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com.

Best Regards,
Raymond

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, great card

Pros: *Great design
*Great cooling system, one of only few cards with 3 fan cooling and heat sink covering whole card.
*Only card at the time with a factory back plate.( not really important but looks better and cleaner).
*Comes with a mild overclock out of box, and is tuned with the cooler well so it stays cool.

Cons: *Card is a bit long, about 1.5" longer than my 7970,may cause an issue in some smaller cases, was not an issue in my Azza solano 1000 full tower.
* Don't count on getting rebate back anytime soon if at all, I bought this card 2 months ago and sent the rebate out a week after purchase to make sure card was not going to give any issues, registered on website etc. and nothing not even a word. The rebate was part of the reason I bought this card, and it was a $30 rebate so yeah I wanted it, other wise I would have bought another brand, next time I may go with a different company.
* Warranty period is only 3 years, which I have not had an issue with any powercolor products and ive owned 3, usually by 3 years im upgrading anyway so its not so important.
